Zeus Kabob Wrote:That's why people can pick it up. Sakyubasu No Tatakai is a game entirely made up by Gorepete, so it really needs to be done by him to be authentic, whereas if it's a Kingdom Hearts game, people can use existing plot elements as well as Gorepete has (because everyone knows them).

I like the concept of Sakyubasu, and I hope he does well with it. If you really want, erza, try to organize a team to make this game. There's already art and some animations, so it shouldn't be too hard.

owo you know thinking about it leaving it for someone else to pick up would be cool because like you said, anyone can pick it up,me i know for a fact i cant do flash lol,but then if gore finishes sakyu and comes back to this one he could use ideas from there in this one >w> love how logic hits me when i dont even need it.

I thought we all had learned by now not to count on someone picking up and finishing a game.

my heart is broken
I can not understand this
I loved you too much...

I am really happy Sakyu is being focused on, considering it was probably the biggest reason I joined this amazing forum, but I felt like a little kid in a candy store and a twenty dollar bill when I first saw this project... it pains me to see it go away, Even if only for a while.

There are a lot of new members, every once in a while you have to make a new project to get their hopes up then abandon it to remind them where they are at!

Gorepete did it once so a lot of us thought he'd finish LD as well. Well, at least we still have Sakyu.

That makes sense in a sadistic way. Finish one game and then leave a trail of unfinished games and tears in your wake. Do you truly enjoy our cries of despair that much?

Trunks: I have no expectation that any game is going to be picked up, but I'm not about to sit down and listen to bitching about what Gorepete decided to do. I say, if you truly want this game finished, you'd finish it yourself.

this is why i dont have many posts...
mostly its just people complaining oh its not finished or oh i dont like this...
i just dont post as i really dont want to say anything since i dont have many posts (kinda redundant tbh)
all of this is FREE so people should just stop complaining, and at least some people, such as gore, are kind enough to say "well im not doing it, but here have everything ive done and if you like it so much then YOU do it!"
its free dont complain....
critique yes, complain no...
i can understand the people who say "but i CANT do it" but this also goes back on them... if you CANT do better, then dont complain.... be thankful/grateful

On the other hand, the 'let's see you do it then' response shouldn't be used as a way of avoiding the fact that someone gave up. No I'm not going to be able to finish the game, that doesn't make my comment any less valid. And this applies in general, not just on this game, and not just with flash games as well, the same goes for artwork and critique. Just because someone can't draw, doesn't make their observations any less valid.

Idk about that, trunks. In my opinion although everyone's opinions matter, when I hear criticism from someone who is much better than me at something like drawing or animating I take it with much more respect because they're at the level I'm trying to achieve.

Plus when it comes to game development, it's much easier to say "finish it" than it is to finish it. Whether you have the skills to make a game or not you have to acknowledge the amount of time and work that goes into these things.
I animate and draw stuff! Check out my gallery if you wish.
Also my email is [email protected]. I'm always happy to receive emails ;)

It is ALWAYS much easier to say "Finish it" than it is to actually finish it. This truth brought to you by reality.

There's also a good number of 'talented' artists that get popular and sometimes arrogant as a result, even to the point that they thing they are beyond critque. *coughjaynaylorcough*

But I do see your point, just remember even the most talented of artists can make silly mistakes that someone else catches. That's half the beauty of getting critque on your work, people can sometimes catch things the artist didn't even notice.

Of course it's easier said than done to finish a game. I just don't think someone should get to fire off a 'well if you want it so bad, you do it' type of response when they quit a project, like that somehow liberates them and they don't have to accept they gave up on their project. Granted Gorepete hasn't done anything of the sort here, and my initial response was to Zeus's comment.

I don't quite understand what you mean by "Liberate" or "Accept that they gave up on".

If a person gives up on something, how could that person not accept that the person has given up on it?

And if a person is not under an obligation to do something, then what is there to liberate that person from?

There are people out there that as soon as they pass on the torch to someone else to finish whatever, they just think 'not my problem' and forget to accept the new person is going to do, what they couldn't. They want someone else to do it so they can walk away guilt free.

They may not be under an obligation as strongly as like they would be at their job or in a class to do work, but it's still a self imposed obligation, one that grows stronger when there's pressure from fans to finish the work. It's sort of like trying to keep your new years resolutions. You don't HAVE to do it, but you WANT to. And you'll feel bad at the end of the year if you failed to.

Unless you don't give a damn.

*shrugs*

It really IS not your problem.

Nobody was paying you.

There's no obligation.

I agree of sorts. A lot of people (including some long time internal members  ) seem to forget that the Creative Corner is just that. I never saw there as being any real intention in finishing any of these projects or anyone claiming they were professional designers, taking donations, etc. It is just a forum where people say "Hey look what I did!" and share it with everyone. For example, I didn't rage quit this project or cry into my cheerios - I just worked on something fun, decided to work on something else, and threw the FLA up in the forums for others usage.

People seem to be mistaking some of the critical differences between an obligation-less hobby and an obligated job. We owe nothing, and we are owed nothing. We make, we share, sometimes we finish; but we all enjoy the ebb and flow of projects and the hundreds of porn, sprites, and mini-loops that have spawned from this forum. Whether or not a project in and of itself is ever finished is completely irrelevant to the functionality and joy of this community.

While I think this has been a salutary discussion on the nature of hobbies, I'll also say this:

"Thoroughly finished products still surely are awesome though."

See that's the kind of thing I'm talking about. "No one payed me, I don't owe you anything."

No you don't, but that doesn't change the fact that you got people's hopes up and then bailed.

And personally I think you have to be feeling a bit guilty to use that lame excuse as a defense instead of just going, "yeah I did, sorry about that."

No I don't expect anyone to finish their projects, but when they die I expect something other than some self justifying response. In the end, and excuse is still an excuse.

Nope, no guilt. That is your own feeling of guilt and failure that you are extending to others, believing they must be drawing the same emotional conclusion as yourself. In reality, you are just failing to understand that the sharing of the ideas, code and sprites is in and of itself something to celebrate.

Guys, guys... how about we just leave the topic here as a little something that aspiring programmers/artists/whatever can pick up as an experiment/something they want to do, stop criticizing Gorepete, and let him go on with his awesome work?
