Your testing reveals that you weren't... making physical blades out of mana. It was more like... whipping the mana out of your body with your arm. You can't really test it up here and without anything to cut, but it is something to keep in mind for the future.

Alright, so I've at least got some kind of offensive spell going on, which is nice. I can't help the excitement that courses through me as I focus on the growing ground. Makes me a little nervous, but I do enjoy the rush of it all.

Okay, but this isn't in the character sheet. Your character sheet doesn't really explain the sexual behaviors of dragons, now does it?

The dragon lands and you see honest to god skyscrappers in the distance that aren't falling apart... sure there are plenty of those as well, but signs of life dammit! The dragon announces, "This is as far as I will take you. Anymore and I suspect the humans will begin using their mechanical weapons against me."

It didn't, but it seems like you're rewriting her powers on the fly, which absolutely were in in the character sheet.

I stare at the sky scrapers, the ones that aren't barely more than vertical fingers of steel poking out of crumbling concrete or webbed over with bugs crawling out of them. I wipe away some unshed tears before I return my attention to my 'ride' before I bow to him as I get off. "I thank you for the assistance elder, is there anything else I can offer to help with? I would trouble you for your name, mine is Robert... Roberta. Roberta... I haven't decided on a last name yet. Pretty sure I'm the only dark elf named Roberta running around though."

Dude, that character sheet was post before I even had a concrete idea of the world. It's been a while, so I don't exactly have it memorized, alright?

"Ah yes... you fledgling and your names," He scoffs pausing to consider, "Donner will suffice... Hmm... As a hatchling you wouldn't be able to contact me. Once again space bends before his claw as he reaches forth, but this time he pulls out a chain of what looks to be silver. He offers it to you, and you feel static electricity flow through it, even after he lets go. "If you channel your mana through it, it will allow you to speak with me."

I gratefully accept the magic chain, nodding to him. "Donner, thank you for all of your help." I tell him seriously before I look around once more to see if there's anything else to do before heading toward the strange city.

He nods back, letting you walk away before taking off. As you look at the city you notice several... distinctions you'd never have seen in an American city before this whole shit-storm. There is clearly a 'claimed' section, which is properly maintained and inhabited, while the rest of city was left to rot or be scavenged from, being separated by a tall wall of concrete, the top dotted with little black silhouettes that you can only assume are guns... large guns. As you get closer you notice that several of the skyscrapers have the southern half of windows removed, and seem to have mirrors affixed at an angle along each floor, though you can't see what is in them to see what the reason is. Others have clearly had the windows replaced with solar panel, especially on the higher floors that wouldn't be hindered by the skyline. Even at a glance, so much seemed to have changed.

Still you manage to walk your way to the concrete walls, confirming there are large dual gun emplacements affixed atop them, and find a gate before night fall. To say the guards are surprised to see you is an understatement. One runs as soon as she sees you, "Are you alright? Where is your convoy? Were you attacked?" She rapid fire asks, as she begins checking for injuries.

I enjoy looking at an actual city for once, not just the hollowed out remains of one that's infested with bug monsters. The upper sections are clearly solar panels, but I'm thinking on the mirrors for a bit, maybe those sections have plants growing inside of them or something? My education is lacking, but I seem to recall that in a few stories. The guns are also interesting, are those the legendary Madeuce's I've read about? Still, it's fascinating to actually leave the tiny room I spent most of my life in. Well... most of my memory.

When I'm finally spotted, I'm stunned to actually be talking to someone! It takes me a moment to get my brain firing on all cylinders again, "Oh, I uh... I got separated at some point, and I managed to find my way back here. Thank you." I tell the young woman. I let her survey me, as I'm pretty sure that I'm not injured, but it never hurts to be thorough.

From what you recall reading about the M2, it isn't usually emplaced in dual mounts, and is just put on a tripod, which these much clearly sturdier mounts don't seem to be. While you can't be sure as you've never seen them, this also seems like it would be far larger then something firing 'mere' half inch rounds.

"Were they coming or going? If they were arriving, they might still be here and we can reunite you with them," She continues before she gets to your ears and pauses, turning to the other guard, a man with some kind of animal ears... Wolf maybe? There are so many triangular mammalian ears it's hard to be sure. Regardless she whispers in a hushed tone, though you easily hear her, "Shit, she's an elf. What the fuck do we do?"
"I've got no idea. That's kind of above our paygrade. I say kick it up to the captain and let him figure it out," The man replies with a shrug.
She turns back pausing for a moment to steel herself, "Right... Uh... Ma'am. This way please. We will bring you to the captain if that is alright... Uh... He will be able to help you get back to your people more then we can." She is clearly very tense and turned to being exceptionally formal.

I feel my ears flick at the attention of them before I return my focus to the woman. "Oh, I... was human? I'm a mutant. Or whatever the proper term is. I think I'm only half elf though." I mention, trying to be helpful, and following along. "And I don't think you'll find a caravan, I'm pretty sure it wasn't from around here. I think I got magicked over this way." I suggest, giving her a wish washy hand.

They snap to you, the woman with wide-eyed astonishment and the man with suspicion, before continuing their conversation. "You ever heard of a human turning into an elf?"
"Nope."
"Then what do-"
"Same thing. Above paygrade. Kick it up to the captain."
She once again turns her attention to you and suggest, "We still think you should speak with the captain. He'll probably be able to help you... or at least point you to someone who can."

I shrug at them, "first time for everything, or it's just not common here? I mean, they had to come from somewhere, right?" I tell them, getting a bit uncomfortable before I nod at the suggestion of passing me to someone else.

The man's beast ears flit at that before he scoffs, "They're not like us demi-humans. Instead of powerful bodies they get innate magical prowess. If you mutate, your innate magic is consumed. You don't mutate to get more." That... sounds like it's completely at odds with what Donner said, but maybe you're just not understanding something.
"Um... let's just take you the captain," The lady guard cuts in, before gesturing you to follow her. She leads you through the gate, which is absolutely massive. The wall must be five meters thick at least! As you walk through, you immediately notice another wall in the distance, the area between seems to be dominated by farmland. Still it looks like you are in for a long walk. Maybe you'd like to start some small talk, perhaps get some information on where you are before you meet this captain... Or maybe flirt with her. It's been a long time since you've seen a women, maybe you want to see if your game is as strong as it once was?

At the mans discussion I shrug a bit, "Fucking magic?" I follow the young woman, staring a bit both at my surroundings and the young woman, the first I've seen in quite some time... not in the mirror, and the... results of that lookie loo almost have me blush as I force my mind away from sexual thoughts. "So... guard duty seems like you get to meet all the interesting people. I haven't been to this area, do you get a lot of travelers?" I ask her, trying to weedle some information out of her.

He just scoffs at your answer, not dignifying it with a response.

A bitter laugh is your initial response to your probing answer, "Not usually no. We get some convoys coming and going, but beyond checking the paperwork, you don't talk to them. Occasionally we get someone who is separated from them. Usually because of an attack. Saw a dragon scouting the area out from where you came. After you walked up, thought it might have attacked a convoy, and you were a survivor... never had someone teleport in from nowhere."

"I didn't see the dragon attack anyone, but I'm far from all knowing. I hope getting teleported around to various places doesn't become a habit of mine, this city seems nice enough. A perfect place to begin some adventures!" I say, my original purpose coming back to me on why I wanted to go to a city in the first place... besides getting to spend actual time with people.

"I have no idea where you came from but it must be a hell lot nicer then here. 'Adventure' is the last thing on people's minds," She explains with a shake of her head.

I feel my joy dimming a bit, but am still refusing to give it up. "So, what kind of stuff happens in the city then? Have you figured out any magic?" I ask, my curiosity getting the better of me?

Up to you. She's been so isolated, she has no idea what the world is like now, so she doesn't know where to start.

She pauses as she tries to decide how to answer your completely unrelated questions, "The city question is both vague and complicated so I'll put that aside for now. As for magic... 'figured out' is a bit... optimistic. Did we figure out combustion engines? In a manner of speaking we did back when we invented a steam engine, but we also continuously improved it, so in a manner of speaking we never 'figured it out.' As for magic, we have managed to train some mages and develop a working magic engine, but we have far more to go."

"Oh, that sounds so interesting! Is there anything I can do to help?" I ask, curious if my little magic core thingies are useful for that sort of thing.
