[Unity3D] Diablo Like RPG

Postby jaf95 » Sat Nov 17, 2018 11:29 pm

Hi guys!

I'm JaF95 and I wanted to share a project I've been working on for a while, for some feedback (and moral support lol). I just want to state now to get it out of the way: There are currently no plans for any adult content in this project. I know that projects on this forum contain adult themes, but this is the only place I could think of to post this. Sorry guys.

The project is a 3D RPG that I'm developing using Unity3D. The game will play similarly to the Diablo and Torchlight series; a top-down isometric view with point-and-click control.

The setting of the game will be in a sci-fi fantasy world that mixes magic with technology.
The main focus of this game is on an unique game experience. No two players should have a completely same play through.

Below I've given a brief breakdown of gameplay elements. Feel free to ask any questions and give any feedback -- I'm open to any positive criticism! Thanks guys!

Abilities
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

There are 3 types of abilities that players can utilize; magical, physical, and technological. They can be obtain by unlocking them through story progression or stats, buying them from vendors, or finding them in the world. Each type of ability works differently from the other and have their own advantages and disadvantages.
Magical abilities have no resource cost, but tend to have higher cooldown periods.
Physical abilities cost stamina to use and have a short cooldown period. Many of these abilities can be charged as well, increasing their effectiveness along with their cost.
Technological abilities cost energy to use, but have no cooldown period.

Companions
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Throughout their journey, Players will find allies to aid them. Each companion will have their own unique set of abilities and personalities. Players can have up to two companions traveling with them at a time.

Crafting
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Players will be able to forge equipment using items found along their quest. Each component will affect the crafted item differently, allowing Players to craft equipment that better suits them and their playstyle.

Enemies
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The game will feature plenty of badies to hunt, from monsters to humanoids to machines. Unlike traditional RPGs that use phases or have a single intended method of defeating them, enemies will react to Players and their playstyle. If the player chooses to play as a magical ranged attacker, enemies will counter ranged magic attacks as best as they can. This way, a player cannot simply choose a single "build" for their character and easily beat the game.

Multiplayer
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The game will feature both PvE and PvP multiplayer. Players will be able to enlist the aid of their friends on their adventure at any tavern. They will also be able to compete against other players in arena combat for prizes, such as equipment, currency, or abilities.

Shops
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Players will be able to purchase crafting materials, items, equipment and abilities from various types of shops throughout the world. Each shop will carry different and specific items, depending on its location and will be open at different hours of the day, depending on the shop itself.

Stats
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Players earn experience points (EXP) by defeating enemies and completing quests/bounties. Earning EXP levels players and allows them to unlock new abilities and tools to use. Players aren't able to allocate points into their stats as they level. Instead, their stats are increased based on their play style. This is done to give a different experience to each player and allow them to just as easily re-shape their characters late game.

Weapons
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Weapons are divided into 15 different classes;
Axes,
Bows,
Cannons,
Fist,
Knives,
Maces,
Pistols,
Polearms,
Rifles,
Staffs,
Swords,
Two-Handed Axes,
Two-Handed Maces,
Two-Handed Swords,
Wands

Using weapons will gain experience for their respective class. Gaining levels with your weapon class will give bonuses to damage, attack speed and accuracy for any weapon of that class.

Quests
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Players will be able to take on side quests as they journey through the world. These quests will be completely optional, and will expand on backstory and help create a more living world. Quest tasks will include fetching, escorting, hunting, etc. Each quest will have something different to offer, even if the task is the same as another quest. This will help keep things fresh and not have the Player feel bored of repetitive tasks.

Well, I can motivate you with something "GO FOR IT!!!"
The truth is description is too generic, and is hard to understand what is idea behind abilities for example.
Mix of magic and technology is nice, but I guess there are no that much artists being able to produce arts in this style. Do you have any arts to share?

Sounds like a big project overall!

Thanks Darkwood!! XD

Hmm, I see. Is there anything specific you're not sure of or confused about with the abilities or anything else?
Sadly, I'm not much of an artist so I've had to grab assets off of the Unity Asset Store. In terms of style, I was going for a low poly cartoon look (along the lines of LoZ: Wind Waker).

It is a pretty heft project, but I'm hoping to break it down bit by bit. Hopefully with some luck, some people might be interested enough to want to lend a helping hand lol.

Seems interesting so I will follow along. I can tell you now that it will be difficult though. Creating a game is tough, especially one with grand plans like yours.

But I hope you will make it happen. Good luck!

Thanks Sneezy, your support means a lot!

Sorry I've been quiet for a while. I'm currently working on a playable demo with some basic systems for the community to try out! Should be uploaded sometime within the coming week!

Hey Everyone!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday! I just wanted to give an update on where things are at. First, I want to apologize for the lack of posts for the past month. With Christmas happening, I got very busy over the holidays and ended up becoming sick at the end of it.
Now that I'm feelimg better (and not hopped up on drugs lol) I can continue my project! So please expect a demo coming soon.

Thanks guys!
