As you all likely know, I went on vacation over the holidays, and combine that with being sick right before the trip, I lost a couple of weeks of work time. I've been playing catch up ever since.

What I have for you all today is more than a bug fix, but less than an major build.

Changelog:

-Resolved a phrasing issue with one of Ms Sherwood's scenes as well as added an additional Depravity check to the scene to create a better range of reactions from the protagonist.

-Ran down and worked on some issues related to the old leatherbound tome.

-Wrote one new scene for the game as well as made a couple of minor rewrites.

-Added 3k words of content to the game bringing the game's total size up to about 319k words of content.

Enjoy the new build. I'll be working hard on Wanton Cove tomorrow as well as all week next week in the hopes of getting a new test build up by next weekend.

Postby GateKeeper_A » Fri Jan 19, 2018 11:11 pm

Its been a very long road these last three years (Actually, its been a little more than that now) and it has been a true joy to have all of you along for the journey.

Wanton Cove started with a simple conversation. I asked what people would like to see for a game from me, and an erotic horror game came up in conversation. At the time, I thought to myself, "Eh, why not?" and in the coming days the setting took form and increasingly became an obsession that demanded its tale be told. What I bring to all of you today is not the end, but AN end. Wanton Cove was never intended to be a single linear story, it was intended to be a tangled web of intrigue. The ending(s) presented in this release are the conclusion to the primary story through the game, but there are still other mysteries to explore in this setting, and today we mark a significant milestone in a longer road.

Thank you to each and every one of you. For your support, your encouragement, your bug reports, and everything else. The Allure of Wanton Cove would not be what it is today without all of you.

I sincerely hope that you all stick around as we begin to explore some of the other mysteries in Wanton Cove, . . .

"You're a washed up ex-detective, living your life one bottle at a time when your old partner and estranged friend comes knocking. His son has gone missing, the police wont pursue the case, and he's run out of leads, so he comes looking to call in an old favor.

You hear him out, even if you have no intention of helping him out. But then he offers you the only clue he has to the whereabouts of his son. A hand written letter with a return address of Wanton Cove, the very name of which dregs up memories of the last horrible case you worked, a case that was never solved."

\

Changelog 1.0 (No, this is not the end.)

-Updated "Special Thanks" area with Patrons who pledged at the $10 and up levels. 1/18/18

-Wrote the "Cathedral" segment for the primary game ending.

-Wrote the "Other World" entry for primary game ending.

-Wrote "Other world" story progression.

-Wrote "Male" branch for the primary ending of the game..

-Wrote both of the "Sexless" branches for the primary ending of the game.

-Wrote all three of the "Female" branches for the primary ending of the game.

-Added a single piece of art. A bit of naughtyness for Nadia.

-Added 14k words of content to the game bringing the game's total size up to a bit over 333k words of content.

The Allure of Wanton Cove is a dark tale of horror in the vein of HP Lovecraft and drawing from the same mythos.

You take on the part of a washed up former detective who could never let go of the last terrible case he worked. Content to drink himself to death, his former partner comes knocking, begging for help. Help he is loath to give, but when offered a tantalizing clue that could finally unravel the case that plagues his every waking thought, he accepts, having no idea that the truth he will find is infinitely more terrible than what already haunts him.

Changelog 1.01

-Wrote new path in the primary ending of the game for male characters. Requires you to have been intimate with Azumi.

-Added a shortcut to sex scenes in the Cheat Menu. I'm sure I missed a few, but the bulk of that content should be there. If you see something I missed, be sure to let me know and I'll get it added to the game.

-Fixed a bug where you were not recognizing Mr Morichi at the start of the endgame.

-Fixed a bug where you and Azumi were not recognizing each other through the window of her room.

-Closed Tom inquiries after you learn his fate. (Sounds like a couple of things are still flapping in the breeze, still need to make another pass related to her content to shut off the rest of it.)

-Wrote one small ambient scene for the Barmaid's Daughter that triggers after you loose the old book.

-New scene in the Park for those who have found the old leather bound tome.

-Added two new NPCs to the bad part of town (You meet them together.)

-Added one new piece of completed art to the game.

-Updated the "People" area of "Case Notes" to include the Lebron sisters.

-Added New Game Plus option and added Happy Ending through that.

-Did a minor rewrite for Dewey Anne's content.

-Fixed several reported bugs and spelling errors.

-Added about 7k words of content to the game bringing the game's total size up to about 340k words of content.

Had two bugs reported. One was something that has likely been in place for a long time and has been preventing much of Mr Morichi's content from playing. The other was the way I coded the Fountain scene, which was only allowing it to play out under a pretty specific set of circumstances. Hopefully this will fix both of those.

New build of Wanton Cove for anyone who is interested!

\

Changelog 1.08

-New Female Deep One fight in the Ruins.
-New Female Deep One fight on the Waterfront. VERY rare.
-Updated the Case Notes area with new information related to the "Azumi Origin" story.
-New conversation with Ms Sherwood for those who have progressed far enough down the "Azumi Origin" path.
-Did minor rewrires to many of the locations in the game to improve flow. Much of the game was originally written as if you were entering the location from the direction it was first presented for, when you come back through those locations this has caused confusion for some players. I am working to get these discrepancies fixed.
-Added Female Deep One fight for both the Waterfront and Ruins to the Cheat Menu shortcuts for easy access.
-Fixed a spacing issue in Nadia's shop that made the Machete difficult to notice.
-Fixed a bug in Aaron's dialogue about the Ruins.
-Then realized that there was a second bug related to Aaron and the Ruins, . . . so fixed that too.
-Fixed a double link issue related to a White Goo event on the Bluff.
-Fixed a bug with Rose Crow that was tripping up her content a bit.
-I THINK I fixed a double link issue in the good part of town related to Cobb's scene there.
-There was a broken set of circumstances when you talk with Tanya about Tom. I've never been able to run down the cause of it, but I did just write a small scene to fill that spot which should prevent people from seeing the blank screen from now on and will fit any timeline in the story.
-Made a small adjustment to the dialogue in the Fountain Investigation scene to reflect that some players may not have met Nadia yet.
-Did some major work to the NewGame+. I had failed to reset all of the variables going into the second playthrough. This should now be resolved.
-Added a possible fix for the money bug that has been lingering for months now. Thanks to HiVE over on TFGamesSite for providing a solution.
-Updated "Special Thanks" area with Patrons who pledged at the $10 and up levels. 6/29/18
-Added about 8k words of content to the game bringing the game's total size up to about 403k words of content.

-Added one the final scene in the Azumi Origin path. Once you've talked with Lady Anne, seek out Mr Morichi to speak with him. Fair warning, your etiquette skill has a big impact on how volatile this conversation becomes.
-Added four new sex scenes with the Lebron sisters. All of these have multiple variants depending on your stats.
-Added two new ambient scenes to the good part of town.
-Added one new ambient scene to the bad part of town.
-Added one new ambient scene to the main street in town.
-Added one new ambient scene to the park.
-Added four new ambient scenes to Nadia's Shop.
-Added a Knife to Nadia's shop.
-Added Cigarettes to Nadia's shop.
-Got the new items from Nadia's shop coded into the character's inventory.
-Fixed a bug that was preventing one of the ambient scenes from playing in the good part of town.
-Added two new images to the game. Character portraits for the Lebron sisters.
-Added the new interactive scene in the Barmaid's Daughter to the Cheat Menu shortcuts. Should have done that back when it was originally added, my bad.
-Updated "Special Thanks" area with Patrons who pledged at the $10 and up levels. 8/16/18
-Added about 9k words of content to the game bringing the game's total size up to about 416k words of content.

The changelog for this build is deceptively short. This build actually adds a whopping 10k words of new content to the game, however that content is centralized in a small number of scenes. Plenty of new naughtyness with Azumi!

Changelog 1.11
-New sex content with Azumi. It's a really big scene that can play out in a total of 14 different ways depending on Taint, Depravity, and state of Virginity. (Basically it boils down to 4-5 primary scenes with variations of each.)
-New conversation with Lady Anne.
-Added one new image to the game.
-Updated "Special Thanks" area with Patrons who pledged at the $10 and up levels. 9/11/18
-Added about 10k words of content to the game bringing the game's total size up to about 426k words of content.

"The Allure of Wanton Cove is a dark tale of horror set within the Cthulhu Mythos created by the renowned author H.P. Lovecraft.

You take on the part of a washed up former detective who could never let go of the last terrible case he worked. Content to live the rest of his life at the bottom of a bottle, his former partner comes knocking, begging for his help. Help that he is loath to give until offered a tantalizing clue that could finally unravel the case that plagues his every waking thought. He accepts, having no idea that the truth he will find is infinitely more terrible than what already haunts him."

\

This game features the following:
-Fully customizable character, and how you build him can have significant implications on the game as a whole.
-Playing different styles of characters is rewarded through unlocking different content as you play, meaning that no two playthroughs will ever be quite the same.
-Discover clues that you can follow as you explore side stories that often shed additional insights into the world you find yourself in.
-Explore a corruption ravaged island, experiencing hundreds of scenes, many of which evolve as you learn more about the island.
-Every character has a story. Talk to the people, learn about them, unravel their secrets.
-Not one, but TWO slow transformation mechanics that can over time can completely change your character.
-A system for tracking madness. The terrible things you see will fray your sanity, driving you mad bit by bit.
-A fully implemented combat system with several enemy types, and enemies who will sometimes behave differently each time you encounter them.
-Seventeen different endings to the game to find.
-More than 50 images that range from the erotic to the macabre.
-More than 400,000 words of content, making it a substantial sized project that will likely take you hours to play through.

\

Changelog 1.12
-Added a new ending to the game. This one involves the Tentacled Thing.
-Added a new White Goo event to the ruins.
-Added a new function to the Cheat Menu to allow people to generate Tentacled Thing losses more easily. Three losses then encountering the Tentacled Thing again will lead to a new game end.
-Adjusted Lebron Sisters content so they generate Depravity if you have low enough Depravity.
-Added a shortcut to the Cheat Menu to include the new Azumi sex scenes from the previous build of the game.
-Updated "Special Thanks" area with Patrons who pledged at the $10 and up levels. 9/16/18
-Added about 13k words of content to the game bringing the game's total size up to about 439k words of content.

Changelog 1.13
-Added a second way into the mansion for those who get thrown out. Includes new scenes and new variants of existing scenes.
-Added the ability to whore yourself out in the Barmaid's Daughter. It includes a series of scenes that can play out if your Depravity is high enough. These scenes are affected by Depravity and Virginity status. At present there are only three sex scenes (One has several variations), but I plan to add at least two more soon.
-Added whoring yourself out to the Cheat Menu.
-Added one new image to the game.
-There was a broken bit of content in the tavern which was preventing one scene from playing the way it was intended. It has been fixed.
-Adjusted the chance of Lady Anne appearing in the good part of town. She should appear roughly twice as often now.
-Spelling/Grammar fixes.
-Updated "Special Thanks" area with Patrons who pledged at the $10 and up levels. 10/23/18
-Added about 21k words of content to the game bringing the game's total size up to about 460k words of content.

Player Reviews:

"You know, I have played some truly horrific and/or gory video games during my years. Games like:
• Parasite Eve
• Resident Evil
• Silent Hill (All of them up to “The Room”
..and yet none of them have creeped me the fuck out like Wanton Cove. You are that much of a badass when it comes to descriptive writing. Never add sounds to that game. I am too old to be pissing myself."

"The slow burn of the transformation is very torturous, but its creeping presence gives the game a real sense of dread... or eroticism if you're into that. What has been released has been a spectacular Detective Adventure that does well to put you into the story. The atmosphere has been very dark and foreboding. I find myself wanting to know more about the world and there's enough grit here to make it without the transformation aspect.

Because, let's be honest, who didn't keep going back to your room with that woman?

Fun Tip: Play some music from a dark horror game. I personally used Silent Hill for this. It adds to the experience.

Came for the Smut, stayed for the Story. Probably one of the better compliments I could pay."

"I feel that most games on this site can be broadly put into two categories. Porn with game elements, and games with porn elements. I would say this fits into the latter category. The writing in general, the setting, and the atmosphere of the game are excellent. It feels very Lovecraftian. Seriously, this game is creepy from the get go, and the tension that it creates really works. The random scenes generally help keep the tension high, and atmosphere thick. The character work could be a bit better. To be clear, some characters get a lot of love, but others feel like little more a click through dialouge to gather clues. It's that contrast that makes me even write this criticism.

On to the TF. There seems to be one central TF in the game, and it is painfully slow... in a very good way. You could railroad your way through it if you really want to, but I get the feeling that once there is a path to a more satisfactory ending it is the kind of thing that will happen over time, and you will struggle against it if you want to enjoy the content. This seems fitting, as characters tend to lose their minds in Lovecraftian fiction, while here we have our main character losing their body and mind. The descriptions of the TF as they occur range from good to great. Unfortunately, if you want to be reminded of what you look like, the "you" link displays a pretty bare bones description of your current form. It's not a deal breaker, and I know it is a pain to write a bit of code to reflect those dynamic changes in a somewhat more literary format, but it is a feature I look for in TF games."
