It's really a shame. The game was relatively simple, the actual graphics were non-complicated, the bulk of the gameplay was finished and actually in the game and they were pulling in a ton of money despite most contributors only putting in $1. It's amazing how quickly shit can go wrong.

Well, look up "Failure Cascade" and this is a good definition of it. One event leads to another and you get a snowball rolling.

I'm still deciding on if I should write up a eulogy on this one that reflects on patreons and devs in a realistic light on things so I have yet to decide if I want to do this separately or not...

Still deciding but it's a lot to write. Two posts to help people look at situations like this and Breeding Season and recognize when things are off...

See if you can come up with a proper timeline and compare it with the Graphtreon stats. I think there are points you can actually see when they fucked up in some capacity.

Anyone know if they've got any kind of copyright on the game? What with it being built on Playshapes' content, could someone perhaps hijack the progress so far and finish it themselves?

If they have a copyright, it's not held in the United States. I could find nothing at all related to Simbro filed from 1978 to now with Simbro as a name beyond something for someone with the last name of Simbro. Anyone know where the developers are from?

They are slavs maybe from the ukraine. They can´t have copyrights they are using someone else assets and a free engine.

Just change the main plot and the name of the characters. and ask that Corta guy for his blessing.

Now this is just sad. I was happy I found out about this game yesterday, and now I'm reading that it'll never be finished? A bummer.

I don't know anything about international/internet copyrights, but in the U.S.A. at least, someone can establish an "intellectual property" copyright of some sorts on the story/plot. My suggestion was basically along the lines of taking the game as it is and just finishing it. Full-on hijack the entire source code.

If they don't have any kind of copyright/patent/TM on their story, it's fair game. I suspect that, even if they do, simply changing the names of characters and adjusting the dialogue and making some minor alterations to the storyline would be a righteous cause.

In such a case, I would be willing to participate. I know nothing of writing code, but I can write the story like Shakespeare. I've already planned the whole fucking game out in my head as such it would be a real winner.

Considering Flash seems to be on its way out, the best bet would be to try and move the art assets into Unity. I'm pretty decent with C#, but I know jack when it comes to art. From my experience, the art/animation side of things is where you'd have the hardest time replacing.

I have absolutely no idea how people can be so incompetent at talking to their fanbase.

At making games sure, people have varying skill levels there but if you're earning this much money on the good will of fans then one post a month is pretty ridiculous.
None of them can even be bothered to post once a week just to confirm that the game is still a thing.

Maybe they want to surprise us! but let's face it, probably not.

I get that the issue with the engine might be kicking them in the ass but good God, communicate. In this thread alone there have been many good ideas on how to move forward.
Instead the just seem to be charging head first at a brick wall hoping to break it.

Devil guy is a student who doesn´t even know how to code, he Kept saying he had all the backgrounds ready then says backgrounds are almost ready,Hasnt even started working on animations and he works 1 daily hour in the game all by himself. Emphasis in 1 daily hour by himself.

It took me 33 hours to create 10 rooms then another 23 hours to code those rooms into a playable dungeon for my game. add 20 hours to get character sprites right. and 5 hours to have user interfaces ready. that´s 90 days of working 1 daily hour.and Im still missing another 120-150 days before I can get anything that resembles a demo.

He is just another amateur with good intentions. And the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Still I hope he success.

His rewards are shit tho. Could not he think of anything better?

In regards to copyright, if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask them here

Specifically about copyright, you have that at the moment of creation thanks to the BERNE convention and TRIPS but publishers usually use that to control what their artists do.

There's nothing you can't make out of the resources in the game to create your own game.

In regards to Corta, he already gave his blessing LOOOONG ago for people to use his assets for their own games. Just look in the thread that's stickied for it.

Exactly where would one begin when they're an amateur and wishes to continue the work of a (deceased) game? I wanna help, but I need to learn the beginner's lesson first.

Let's not degenerate this into a discussion for/about poorly qualified coders. Anyone here still foolish enough to be $1 patron? My broken account got fixed and Patreon now closes me out of being a patron. They FINALLY posted an update "2.5", but I can't see the text for it or read the comments because I'm no longer considered a patron.

Not here, but honestly? They should have made any response to the huge drop in updates public. Otherwise the people that left can't get swayed back.
