Demon Binder

Postby Languidfox » Fri Aug 25, 2017 6:59 pm

I've been lurking here about for years, but never bothered to make an account because I didn't really have anything to say that someone else hadn't said better.
Recently I started throwing a game together so I figured I'd sign up and share it, since that's something I could contribute. It's just a hobby project to file some of the rust off my scripting skills, but someone might find it interesting.

The game is called Demon Binder and is about a character who negotiates with demons of different sorts for power. You can give up moments of your life, let the demon into the world or owe it debts in exchange for special powers, servants, money or other favours. A lot of the game obtains acquiring and using these powers in order to force or trick people to give up their souls in order to satisfy the first demon you're obliged to deal with. I want something that offers more than one way to solve a problem and has a lot of optional branches and challenges that can be approached in different orders to different results - but of course that branching factor means a lot of extra work for each step forward, so it's likely to be a project that develops slowly (Especially as there's a lot of future proofing behind the scenes to make sure things work if you obtain new powers that aren't implemented yet and return to an earlier area).

It's got 167 images in it at the moment, mostly bondage, because that's what I'm into. It's built on the Quest engine which you can download here (http://textadventures.co.uk/quest).

Thanks for joining and especially thanks for making a game! I'd be interested in checking it out, but I don't see a link. Please edit your post to add the link to your game, so we can enjoy it!

Wow, so I posted this a while ago and kept coming back to see if a moderator had said it was okay yet and gave up after a few days - I had no idea it had ever actually posted ;)

I just uploaded the file again using the "upload attachment" option in the forum post menu. I'm new to the forum so if this is the wrong way to do it please let me know.

Since making this post I started trying to implement a combat system for the game which lead to be doing some debugging which lead to me making a build of the game with nothing except combat to get the combat right ... long story short in trying to debug this game I accidentally wrote a procedurally generated pokemon roguelike with 40ish capturable ladies who use moves from 9 different elements (slutty, dominant, submissive etc.) with effective / ineffective relationships between them. I'm not sure which one to continue with atm so I'll get the other to a playabe (aka less buggy) state so I can post both.

Again, this one should be attached now - we'll see if it works.

Is there going to be a two week moderation for each post or is there a way to stop that happening?

Because taking a couple of weeks to see if the upload worked properly seems like more trouble than it's worth.

since you are a new register it takes time for the post to upload i recommend you make some other post maybe in the general thread(i think at least 10 post) before you can get rid of the newly register title and all your post will be instant

It should not be a 2 week wait, most likely just an oversight or someone thought that they had approved it and it never went through, I got through my 10 posts fairly quickly. It helps if you find threads that you are interested in and comment in them, but not just hey, +1 post comments. :D

Anyway, good luck with the game.

one other thing upload the game to either a blog or someplace like mega or even google or someother cloud share service and allow ppl to dl from there. cuts down on the wait time but yeah all you need to do is post 10 times somewhere on the forum and u dont need to wait for mods to allow u to post stuff without waiting.
this is a sig. there are many like it, but this one is mine

Thanks for your comments all :)

I've uploaded it here:
https://www.patreon.com/posts/14324124
(Don't worry about it being a patreon link, I'm just using it for filehosting because it's a tool I know that doesn't require me to pay for hosting, the game is free)

Quest games look like this:
DB1.jpg

Click on arrows to move, click on stuff that you're carrying or that's in the room to have a list of options pop up underneath, click on an option to do the thing.

For instance if you click on "unconscious victim" and hit "look at" you get this:
DB2.jpg

The game uses photos of real people for real people and hentai style images for anything supernatural, to try to give a different visual feel to things that are out of this world:

While you don't start in a great position the game's not about finding all of the exciting ways to die, there are plenty of opportunities to get the upper hand.

You may spot an item called "The Cheat", I add extra functions to it for debugging and testing, at the moment it's set to skip past the first scene and demon negotiation since it gets tiring to do that over and over if you manage to lose shortly afterwards (Though you can just save game - it's more relevant to me since I constantly break my saves by modifying the game - warning: I do not promise not to break your saves)

Hm. Just a question: Is there a way to become a submissive while still not losing? I haven't tried it out yet, but I do want to know if my efforts would be in vain. xD

It depends where you submit. If you submit to someone who wants to kill you then you will very likely end up killed. There are at least two scenes where you wind up in a submissive role but will become more powerful through it - both are optional and pretty missable. There are a couple more which won't lose you the game but won't do anything to advance your position. There are many more which result in a game over.
