Had an idea playing about in my head, since getting Ark survival evolved. Would anyone be interested in playing a game set in that sort of setting? surviving in a world full of dinos and other monsters and fighting warring tribes while trying to keep your own alive?

Honestly, i don't think as a RP, ark would make sense. Ark is designed for the content being spread out over hours and hours of play. I don't think a conversion to RP would be easy but kinda interested. Show me your best shot.

You are in fact correct, the game of ark would not make sense in an rp, being in that it's completely live action and most of the mechanics in place are for your benefit as a player so the game isn't as boring and dull in the hours you spend taming that T-rex.(when you don't cheat)

with that in mind I had a way of simplifying some aspects of it. such as taming and crafting, I was also going to instead of giving emgram points give the option of schematics to be available to both find and upon level up be taken(up to 3 I have it down as currently) of learning when your craft skill is at a certain number for the ones available to you. Taming was done on a similar system but not on a level up point. gathering was also going to be less of a grind fest, making it more doable. I also intended to limit players so they couldn't get SMGs and ride by with raptors. at least not without some great difficulty anyway. it was also going to constantly throw conflict at the players with more than the stray dino coming across the players and trying to eat them in the form of other tribes and put a goal in place on actually finding out why you're also there and maybe a possibility to escape or embrace the new existence.

It's not just that. Take half life, or Shadow of mordor, it's easy to create a RP out of both games even if they're live action. Even star craft.
I think the problem lies not with the live action, but as a RP medium we know how generically convert games into a RP.
Ark require a bit more work because it does not fit nicely within the generic conversion, or if it did, it would no longer be ark.


But ya, no complaints from what i've seen.

Yeah i know what you mean, it's not like simply stealing a setting and applying mechanics to make it work, it's trying to get the feel of ark and making it playable in an rp forum format. the idea is to cut the stuff that would be tedious to rp but keep enough so the feel is the same.

Hey, I got asked to try and run a group RP based on one of the other ones I'm running. If anyone else is interested, I'm willing to give this a stab.

So I've been thinking of doing a D&D like rp with my own system but I'm stuck on what to do in terms of classes. Would people prefer to have a set of classes to choose from or be able to workshop the class they want. On another forum, the GM tried it the second way and it seemed to work out, it it took longer to set up the game.

So, I've been trying to come up with an RPG that's as interactive as possible, and since I'm still not sure if it's a good idea, I figured I'd post it here for constructive criticism, and for others to give me better ideas.

I figure that for sign-ups, I'd first post a google document with a list of races and classes with starting skills for each(With stat options and starting equipment), as well as a list of the four deities(and an option for none) which each player can choose to serve(Which would determine the nature of their quests).

I'm also planning to draw up a world map(So players will know where they are, as well as key locations so they know where to go), and a list of creatures with stats and weaknesses(Or possibly just make the list as creatures are discovered).

Also thinking PVP(With some rules to make sure it goes smoothly, for example, no killing or raping without OOC consent) and global events that would draw all or some characters to the same location with opposing or the same mission.

Like other RPs I've watched, as the DM, I'd be performing the dice rolls, coin flips, level advancement, ETC, controlling NPCs, and generally replying to every post to steer the RP. People could also check the Discord channel in my SIG to verify the rolls and such. I'll also be keeping a google document so people can their own and each other's character cards for their stats, abilities, inventory, etc.

I'm bad at explaining things, so if anyone wants more details, please ask.

EDIT: I realized I forgot to actually explain the story for the RP... well, basically, what your character starts off doing and what your mission is would depend on your race and deity, but the one constant would be that the world within the RP is Steampunk, and rather nations, the world is littered with city-states, some warring. Each chapter will have a different global event, but otherwise it will mainly be small quests and interactions between a few players at a time.

This sounds pretty grandiose and reminds me a lot of another amazing rp I took part in a long time ago (Wastelands was the name if you're interested in knowing) I'm certainly interested and willing to give any constructive criticism, although it probably can't be anything substantial until I see the actual google document.
