Forum Rules

I think this forum is great, but no matter how awesome a place might be, problems will crop up. Our moderating team is small, and it's really hard for us to look at all the posts that come in, let alone figure out people's feelings about them.

What we want is for you, our friends, to talk to us if you think something's wrong, especially if it's the result of a modertor's action. I've made really bad moderating calls in the past, and the only way I found out is by being called out. We don't bite ('cept Taria, she's kinky like that), so please call us out (politely) if you think we screwed something up.

In addition, if you're getting harassed or see someone else doing something against the rules, then please speak up! Tell us about it so we can quickly and properly deal with these issues. For reference the rules are below:

Most recent edit: 2017-09-27: fixing formatting.
New edit by MiscChaos: 2020-01-12: Referenced Creative Corner rules so they're all in one place

  • Until you have 10 posts on the forum, your posts are subject to moderator approval. It may take a while for posts to appear, but be assured that they're still there! Similarly, private messages aren't allowed before you've gotten 10 posts (since private messages can't be viewed by moderators, they can't be sent with moderator approval). If you're having trouble figuring out how to reach 10 posts, visit the General subforum, there are many topics to chat in there, and there aren't many limitations!
  • Be nice. This means no flaming, no trolling, no scathing personal attacks, and no purposefully misleading comments.

  • New users' posts undergo an approval process, meaning they won't show up right away. Don't worry though, once you have 10 posts you can post freely without restrictions! Just be patient, and don't re-post messages! You also won't be able to send private messages during this time; just be patient and send your messages once you've had enough posts approved.

  • No advertising. Advertising in any way puts you at risk of being banned.

The Creative Corner is only meant for projects with free content. Posting purchase links for DLSite games in the CC is against the rules and will get you warned or banned. However, posting a detailed description of a DLSite game with a link and posting it in an appropriate thread in General Discussion is fine. It's absolutely fine to talk about games that cost money, but it's not okay to pressure other people on the forum to buy said games.

Certain threads on this forum request donations, but the LoK forums only advocate the use of the free content posted on the forum. Donating to projects is risky, and anyone who feels unsatisfied with their choice to donate should bring it up with the project manager, but shouldn't post complaints to the forum.

Patreon is a gray area for sure. If the project has no playable demo, but a patreon link is posted in the Creative Corner, it's treated like any other paid product being advertised in the CC and its owner is warned, then banned if they attempt more advertising. If the demo provided is termed "alpha" or "beta", and the thread includes pressuring tactics to sell a "full game", then that may fall over the line to advertising paid content. If the game is managed so that patrons get access to content that will become free within a few weeks, then that's on the other side of the advertising line and it's acceptable.

Threads with low effort posts (copy pasted boilerplate, minimal text, or a lack of community interaction) may be warned or deleted, and putting effort into the community aspect of your game's thread can help keep it from falling over the line for advertising.

  • Keep it constructive and on topic! The discussion and creative areas are for on-topic posts only. We don't mind a brief aside or indirectly related comment, but if you want to have a silly conversation then create a new topic in the general forum or use private messages please!

  • No spam. Spam is when you post a link without text, post a completely off-topic message, post a random string of characters, or anything similar. Double posts can also be spam, but it's context sensitive. Use the final rule to decide. Shock links (links intended to result in fear, disgust, or horror) are explicitly disallowed.

It's fun to be high energy and silly, but only certain threads are meant for that. Keep in mind that many threads expect or require a certain level of behavior.

  • No illegal content. Pirated content, child pornography, and any digital art where the participants are stated as below 18 years old are disallowed on the forums.

  • Use common sense. I'm not smart enough to think of everything someone could do to damage the forum or cause trouble. If you think something might cause trouble, try to consider the repercussions of your action. If you're worried we'll get mad about posting something, feel free to send the post by us first. That way we can help you understand whether the post is appropriate, and help you correct any problems the post may have.

  • The Creative Corner has it's own set of rules that everyone should be aware of. Please read them here.

Thanks so much for reading this, with your help we can make this forum even more awesome than it already is!

Just a note that while making an update to flash tags to cut down on 404 errors in the server logs, I've snuck in an update that should prevent flash files from loading automatically, so users now have to click them to begin loading. This should make use of the spoiler tag unnecessary, though of course if this has broken anything then someone please PM me right away ;)
It should however hopefully speed up page loads considerably, not that it was a big issue for the server to handle (since all the files come from CloudFlare anyway), but it should make flash heavy topics load visibly quicker for users; guest users probably won't notice a difference right away as the old formatting may still be on cached pages.

By the way the changes are awesome that Renara made and now i can run any of the flash games even on my windows xp :D

Those are disallowed under "misleading links" and "spamming". If you see any screamer links, please report them.

Hey!

I made a post for our new game and without realising it was against the rules, attached a patreon link :'(
I now realise how ignorant this was of me, but I am wondering if that is the reason my posts need to be approved, or is it just because the Creative Corner posts are all moderated?
It was an honest mistake, and now the delay is actually quite affecting community involvement, which I know is a big part of these forums :)
Thought I would post here as I couldn't see another way to contact the admin.

Thanks!

Hello.
I wanted to ask how long does it normally take for a topic to be approved by a moderador. I just created an account and I couldn't find any other way of contacting an admin.

All posts by new users need to be approved until we see the user really interact and helps the community. This is to fight off spam and tons of issues, as there are a huge amount of people in the hentai world. This is a calmier place where we discuss and we can create content with our own resources and ideas : ) (of course you are not obligated to create something).

Generally you need to interact more to LOK in order to get an 'up' to the moderated posts, so they may not be needed to be approved anymore. I dont know if I am allowed to tell the amount of posts, as here are other variables. But its not much (like 50 posts).

Well, Zeus and others great moderators use to act within few hours, rarely more than a day. But they are not robots, so sometimes it might delay a bit more.

Hmm this is actually the first sane hentai forum i've been to that actually has good rules. Some of the others i've been to are so out of order its crazy. Anyway as far as the "approve posts until" part goes i can say this much. I run a forum and i used to allow anyone to post >.> never again. My forum was literally spammed with male enhancement drugs and a bunch of other crap in different languages to the point that deleting them took so long that the php scripts would time out and my cpu would hit 100% (like about 100 posts a day of over 2 k characters per post) and i let this go on for about 6 months before i finally decided to redo everything and get rid of ALL the spam.

Trust me when i say that spam bots are f'ing ANNOYING xD.

Hi.

I'm looking for a place where I can post a Game I'm working on.

I plan to use Pics from Incognitymous (I have his permission) but he mostly draws charackters from Ben 10, Jackie Chan, Inpector Gadget... (Gwen Tennyson, Jade Chan etc.)
I've seen some other games with characters that are below 18 years in the original series (e.g. Misty from Pokemon) but your rules said "digital art where the participants are stated as below 18 years old are disallowed on the forums." so I'm not sure if it's ok to post the game or not. Of course the characters in my game are over 18 years but maybe you won't recognize it. (if you understand...)

Sorry for bad englisch 8(

due to the need for ten posts to get that auto approval, i figured i'd go ahead and ask for a little clarification on patreon links. To be clear, i do not have a patreon setup yet, and probably won't for another month or two at least, but i joined this forum because my boyfriend and partner on a new hgame project said this is where he found his last team, and we're hoping to find some friends and possible coworkers here. What i wanted to ask though is, in regard to patreons without a demo yet, should we avoid posting a link to our patreon page altogether on our discussion threads for our game, or is it okay to just have a link at th bottom alongside my our tumblr url and website? it seemed you put more emphasis on the pressuring of people to pay, which i don't think having a patreon listed alongsid other websites where we are posting content would be seen as pressuring peopl to pay.... [and the game itself will be free, with patrons getting early access and input on game design/features, and free monthly gifts] for example, we wouldnt post a link to our patreon in other people's threads, but like, i intend to start a concept art thread for our game, post WIPs, and ask for feedback from ppl here. would including a patreon link in my signature or in the intro post be okay in that sort of case, even though we won't have a demo for a little while? [and honestly, because we need patreon to get the software licenses cause we're trying to do everything legal and properly]

I just wanna make sure i don't end up stepping on any toes so sorry if this has been answered in comments and i couldnt find it, i did read through a couple dozen but figured i'd go ahead ans post :3

The general rule of thumb is thus:

If you don't have a demo, the thread goes in Creative Discussion.
If you have a demo locked behind Patreon and no demo otherwise, this is considered Advertising and will result in a ban.
If you have a demo available for public consumption, and more content locked behind Patreon, then posting a Patreon is disallowed.
If you have a demo available and a Patreon, but no content locked behind Patreon, then posting a link is allowed.

Out of curiosity, where do you draw the line between 'demo' and 'previous release'? I know a lot of people use their Patreon subscription to put their supporters one month ahead or so.

yeah my impression from the above is that if it's that kind of setup, then no patreon posting allowed... i mean i gotta rework my plan for my patreon now if i wanna use these forums at all in that case, if i can't give my patrons something extra/early releases or limited edition content [like cheat codes] then it gets complicated... it means the only option for patreon setup is commission based, where patrons get input on the content being created but cant be offered early access to it if i wanna be allowed to have a link in my description? I mean i get trying to avoid advertising but like... that's what networking and posting content online at all is anyway XD but rules are rules, we either follow them or find somewhere else to post :)

A demo is anything playable that closely resembles the game in question. It's not the best wording, and perhaps I should say "playable game" instead.

Putting patrons a month ahead of public releases is something that makes Patreon links disallowed. If you want to use this forum in order to ask for insight into the game or to share your game with people, then you can post a link to the most up-to-date public copy without posting a Patreon link. This will still give you potentially valuable feedback, and will share the game around and improve word-of-mouth. Interested players can look you up on Patreon, and you can mention that you have a Patreon without posting a link to it.

Further clarification rule: some games only use Patreon as their host site, not keeping a blog or such that's separate. Not trying to weedle, just pointing out things I've seen.

this is exactly what our plan was for the game itself, and why this is such a finicky issue for me. we cant afford to host elsewhere unless we get patrons. plus i wanted feedback on my patreon setup itself because there's so many different ways people organize tiers, but i'm not willing to sacrifice my financial plan just to use one forum site, it would defeat the point for me.

Many people use Tumblr with MEGA links for their games. For smaller games (in file size, not budget/scope), this is free. For larger games, you will likely have to upgrade your MEGA account to allow the traffic.

You could also use torrents to distribute data, which should only require a seed box or two (one of your devs running their computer overnight or plugging a laptop in to run constantly). I understand your concern regarding the efforts you'd have to take to accommodate our rules, but I'm not sure if changing them would be the right decision.

Oh f*ck I missed the part of patreon links over a post. That's why I reedited my new topic to re-add the links back, didn't remember they weren't allowed, my bad  (the intention of adding it was because of the plan on updating links in that direct link and because there was also the link to a fix). Well anyway, sorry @Zeus Kabob, you can remove them back and I'll add the link direct to the fix when it's available again, won't link back again to patreon.
