Hello everyone. I am right now trying to get a mixture of colors and i'm hoping you can help.

I need a new color for the north,West and possibly the Center for my tabs.
I need them to blend in and to tell you the truth i'm only going to add them if they compare to each other well.

Hey BlueLight,
I am by no means the best or greatest pixel artist ever, nor do I pretend to be, however I do have a lot of experience doing it so if it is cool with you I can give you feedback on the stuff you shown thus far, and even suggest techniques for making the map sprites a lot more photogenic. Let me know if it is ok to give constructive feedback, since not a lot of people tend to like it when I am super critical on the forums.

Alright so i haven't really been able to do much work in the past 2 days and well i would be sorry is i had any control over it.

Anyways here's what i got to do.
1 Fix my array for info on the north panel.
2 Learn how to make grid with a library design for it.
3 Add and gradient to the GUI.

Alright so i'm starting work on my game engine and i'm going to be using JGame for it mean i am required to give them some credit (Damn licensing laws).

What i really need is ideas for the game. It will be easier to implement ideas if i know about them before i start writing the game engine.

Can you briefly explain how the gameplay will be like? Or do you want ideas for that too? :)

Hmm, so basically you are making an interface that has different tabs and buttons that perform a certain action or event? Does it play kind of like most browser-based games? :?

Yeah I check it out. It reminds me of one of those adventure games where you point and click. Are you sticking with this GUI layout?

bleed nights without sleep over this GUI so ya i'm sticking to it.
I'm still working on it but basically thats the plan.

As for reminding you of adventure games i can believe it since i'm sorta modeling the as a RougeLike.

This is a old RougeLike game called "castle of the winds 1-2" This was made back in the day when complete games given away for free and called demos. Anyways this is a 32bit only game and i don't think it will work on anything other than windows OS unless emulation is involved.

Right now I'm about to scrap any notion of being able to skip a few step in creating the game engine.
I'm trying a library for drawing that seems simple enough but for the lack of documentation on the classes.
It's a bit out of date java 1.5 and my program uses 1.6 but we should be okay. 1.4 and 1.5 is ware a huge update in the syntax was done. 1.6 was basically just more items added to the API so i don't think i need to worry about the files fighting.

The last library either had poorly maintained documentation or it still supported 1.3 and it was a little over kill for what i need.

I'm working on a public update but it's going slow since i'm really work on other part of the game.

The character creator is getting extra features. I am still working on the engine and i might just have to do this thing by scratch.

So i am right now really work on the engine and here is what i got.

Ya i know not a lot of progress i well. I just don't want to do it. My theory is that if i do everything but the engine that sooner or later it will build it self.

So first off landMass[Y][X] is a array of array. basically a 2d grid which is a grid.

now really the Y and X is there is to say where in the grid you want to look up.

Now i numbered the grid how i did because i wanted to see it. but thats not how the engine will work.
I'm going to take the approach that i believe notch used with minecraft. I will make a grid (he made a 3d grid i believe) and add values to the grids depending whats in it.
Now I think he uses a byte which smaller than a integer. Byte is roughly 256 numbers where a integer is something like 1,000,000+ numbers.

anyways the approach i'm thinking of taking is a value says whats in it. so here's what i got down for that.
Negative values are room elements.
0 is floor
1 is character
2-10 are allies (just reserving)
11-20 are NPC good or bad ( think town guard)
21-40 are NPC monsters

This would work in theory but i don't think i will totally take this approach. I was told not store the players place in the grid so i'l likely use it for room elements and items on the floor.

Okay i am going to try to get a few releases done today and i'm going to put them on my blog.
If everything goes according to plan i will have basic Attack system programmed and ready for testing. Note i am not totally happy with this method and i will likely change the logic some day.
