Peace in our time

OOC thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=6720

Peace! Today was the day, and those who lived under a rock for 10 years would think there never was a war. In Pax-station, the Davultan and the Coalition species walked around without shooting each other to pulp. The station was retrofitted completely, and is now host to soldiers, officers, diplomats and politicians from both sides of the war. This means there are innumerable personnel serving to entertain, feed and profit of those inside. Casinos, shops, bars and even whole brothels are set up, and those most curious have a chance to sniff the culture of those they have been fighting. Inside a large meeting room, which used to be the station’s bridge, leaders of the Coalition and the Dominion are finalising the peace-deal, but for most, it is a time to relax. The Davultan seem friendly enough up close, and most of those present are surprised at their genuine wish for peace and lack of grudges. Perhaps they really changed? Perhaps…

Zilch:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Xen’Gor, Zilch’s boss, is a strange species. The Verin, or as some other species call them, ‘vermin’, are short but wide insects that walk on four legs and have two arms. This particular Verin male started the travelling sex paradise he was hired for. He is a businessman at heart and smelled the golden opportunity this would mean for his business. So the entire travelling circus that is his enterprise set up in the lower parts of the station, far away from any cameras and prying eyes. Several clients have come, including some curious Davultan soldiers, which Zilch recognized by the red band on their right arm, which had a different colour or pattern to distinguish rank. He himself seems to be without work so far though, no one seemingly willing to pay his price. Next to his own brothel is a Davultan one, unknown to G-CoS (and it is better for the peace talks that it remains that way), all whores there are slaves… Zilch could go and take a walk around, or wait for a customer, hopefully someone of high rank, who could pay.

Ak’tuul:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The Federated Maine Militia was hired by the Galactic Coalition of Species to oversee the security of the station so that the regular soldiers present could enjoy their well-deserved rest. Although the last months of the war were particularly successful for the Coalition, it was still straining, and Ak’Tuul knows that anymore fighting is unpopular with the citizens and the soldiers of G-CoS. So she and her crew were dispatched by her employers to safeguard the station. Luckily, she had some free time, she put her XO in command of the bridge, and the Captain of the marines was overseeing security. There are lots of places to go, nearly every entertainment imaginable is available, but maybe she could even talk to a Davultan? She fought against them for so long, but except for their tactics, they were pretty much an unknown for the Decipardi.

Maria:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The major wasn’t lying when he told her that she wouldn’t like what she’d find at Pax-Station. For three days now, she has been patrolling the place, which was once the pride of her mother. Now, it was some kind of pleasure palace, filled with those damned reptiles, no less. Still, she was glad he pulled some strings to get her assigned in the security detail, even if it meant working together with the private security firm, mostly considered profiteers by the enlisted men and women of the Terran Federation. Walking around a corridor where merchants have set up, she noticed something. In one of the shops, a human shopkeeper was having a heated conversation with one of the Dominion’s soldiers. Heh, time to crack down on the lizard!

Nellie:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Life’s been though, and although Nellie hated it, there was no other choice but setting up shop in Pax-Station and hoping that her tech-gadgets and engineering work would appeal to the hated Davultans. Much to her surprise, they did. She got a lot of work, and even got to see the inside of a Davultan warship to fix their power coupling. The reptiles even tried to be friendly, even they though, recognized her species, and at best they acted awkward around her. Perhaps they felt sorry and that was why she was getting all the work? Thinking about all this, she jolts up from shouting next door, it sounds like a human and a Davultan are arguing. With all the firearms aboard the station, it was a miracle nothing went wrong already, maybe she should intervene in the name of galactic peace?

Jan:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Jan is currently serving on the gigantic Singapore, a Pacific-class carrier ship. The Terran federation has a few of these behemoths, mimicking the combat role of the old naval carriers of Earth. They can withstand massive amounts of punishment, but rely on fighter craft as their main armament. The Singapore has seen many battles, and Admiral Gerard Gunnarson, the commanding officer, is considered a living legend. On this ship, Jan witnessed the last parts of the war, quickly getting command over her own fighter squadron. Now though, Gunnarson’s ship orbits Pax-Station, ironically where the whole war began, to oversee the peace talks. The Admiral still has the ship and her crew be vigilant though, and only a few fighter squadrons get leave at a time, finally it is her turn and Jan finds herself separated from the rest of the crew in the entertainment district. Perhaps it is time for a drink or a gamble? No better place to spend those hard earned credits.

Ak'tuul hadn't intended on taking any leave until the peace talks were over, but her senior officers banded together to force her to take a day off anyway. When that failed they resorted to guilting her by claiming it was obvious she lacked any faith in their abilities, and she begrudgingly took a small shuttle to Pax for a few hours.

Now aboard the station, she wasn't quite sure what to do. Walking aimlessly down the corridors, she considered her options while warping her percieved location and sending the occasional copy headed the opposite direction with practiced ease. It was too risky to drink in case she was needed (I was plastered and having "me" time would never cut it if something went wrong) and finding a show of some kind seemed like a waste of this opportunity. Eventually, she recalled seeing several Davultan merchant ships docking at the station during the last few days. She couldn't imagine what they might be trying to sell, but in the hopes that it was something truly unique she took the next left and headed toward the merchant quarter. It might even be nice hearing a Davultan speaking that wasn't shouting demands over coms.

If this didn't work out she could always grab a nice lunch and amuse herself by seeing how many coalition officers she could catch heading to the brothels. A wicked grin spread across her face at the thought.

Zilch flipped through his communicator as he waited around for a client. Someone with a reputation like his was always getting fan mail and job offers. He tried his best to keep up with all of it. If anything of interest caught his eye, he would make sure to respond to it.

After a bit of browsing his messages, he looked around for any clients he could attempt to seduce. Xen'Gor hired him for a reason, and he wanted to make sure he got his money's worth. He stood up, suggestively stretching to show off his slick pale body.

Maria's finger itched.

It wasn't natural, it wasn't right, and that was why her finger itched. A constant niggle to make things right, to put things in order. To feel the worn grip of her pulse rifle and cool caress of the magnesium trigger on her finger and to see bits of Davultan turn into red mist.

She almost screamed in rage another drunken idiot almost stumbled into on the security sweep, resisting the urge snap his neck the same way she resist the call to head back to armoury, grab her rifle and put things in order. Kicking the fool in the shins with her heavy shod boots while no one was looking, she motioned for the two other marines on her detail to follow and moved on, eyeing off a couple of the PMCs lounging in a brothel.

She had never liked their type, profiteering off the conflict, making bank of milk runs while she and hers bled into mud. Her finger traced around the handle of the collapsible baton on her belt and she thought about stirring the pot when she heard the commotion of the merchant's stall. Her mouth broke into a grin as she saw the Davultan and dragged her detail over to stall, drawing and concealing the baton behind her back but not extending it yet.

"What's the problem here, Skink-boy?" She snapped, making sure the SP of her Shore Patrol armband was showing.

Disgruntled to bits over being interrupted by an argument next door, Nellie hops out of her workshop whilst still in her Engineering jumpsuit, carrying a wrench in her belt if things need a fixing (one way or the other).

She walks out and checks next door, knocking on the doorframe to get their attention.

"Oi, is there a problem in here you two? I can hear you all the way in my workshop, you mind being quiet or knocking it off?"

She huffs, seeming annoyed herself over what she's about to say.

"After all, it's supposed to be.. Space peace, whatevermajig thing... Yeah."

Nellie and Maria:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The human shopkeeper, a white man in his fifties, wearing a truly terrible moustache, seems to smile triumphantly when she comes in. ‘’Thank you for showing up, this Davultan was trying to steal from me!’’ The Davultan, also a man, although she couldn’t concern that more about him, takes a step away from Maria. ‘’This is a misunderstanding humans. I was just checking out his wares when he insulted me.’’ The Davultan seems to be annoyed at the situation. Maria had no reason to believe on or the other, but her gut told her that a human was way more trustworthy then a Davultan. What do we do with thieves? Before she can make a decision, the small frame of a Shrelling enters the shop.

After no response to her call, Nellie decides to hop into the shop, where she spots three human marines already there, she can see the leader hiding a baton behind her back… This could be bad, as the Davultan was carrying a firearm, and a knife. She heard before that all Davultan carry such a knife, and that they were extremely skilled with it. Even their citizens. If there was such a thing as a peaceful Davultan.

Zilch:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The fanmail wasn’t anything to write home about, if he even could do that. Luckily, after reading through a mail from a shrelling banker confessing her love to him, someone came in. The female displacer seems to be a high-ranking officer, maybe even a staff-officer. He doesn’t need to know her rank for that, he could see by the way she was disgusted by the smell and look of the brothel. The female sits down at the bar, and orders a drink, seeming to be a bit unhappy. Someone needs some cheering up.

Ak'Tuul:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Walking to a corridor crammed with small stores in what used to be living quarters, Ak’Tuul hears shouting from one of the stores, a shopkeeper and a Davultan arguing over something. The human guards who were not from her ship but from the regular military, and even the Shrelling engineer from next door seem to go in to fix the problem, perhaps the senior officer should sort out this mess herself? In any case, across from there, a Davultan merchant seems to sell all sorts of stuff from Davultan space, attracting many curious Coalition citizens. That deserves a closer look too.

Jan:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The bar Jan enters is one like countless others, and it is exceptionally busy, the many waitresses walking around to serve mostly alcoholic drinks to the people there. One table had some of her shipmates on it, and they recognize her and gesture her over. Sergeant Ryan Armstrong, the master at arms of the gigantic armoury and a few of his personnel are enjoying a bit too much beer, as apparent by their loud behaviour, this might be fun.

Nellie crosses her arms, huffing at the discourse.

"Ey soldier chick, you need me in here for this? My workshop's just next door, and these two assholes are making a ton of damn noise." She says, looking right at Maria.
She does glance over at the Davultan, but doesn't seem all that pleased to see him, squinting angrily at him.

Zilch sighed at the lack of notable fanmail. He put the saved the Banker e-mail to read for later, right as he saw a golden opportunity in front of him. He waltzed over to the bar, and sat on a stool next to the displacer. He took his credit card out of his pocket and slid it to the bartender.

"Put whatever she has on my tab. Get me my usual to. If you don't know what that is, take a guess, I'm not picky."

After he deals with the bartender, he turns over to the Officer and tries to strike up a conversation.

"What's a pretty face like you doing in a sleazy place like this? Surely you could get anyone you wanted in bed with you? No need for you to pay for it."

Maria motioned for her men to block to the Shrelling from getting any closer to the situation, hoping to make it one less alien she had to deal with.

"The situation is under control," She replied to Shrelling's question, lip curling at having been called a 'soldier chick', "Return to your stall."

Crossing her arms in front of her chest, revealing the unextended baton, she glared straight at the Davultan.

"Put back what you stole and piss off, I don't want to see you in this area again." She forcefully, "Or I'll throw you in the brig, you're choice."

As much as she wanted to start cracking skulls, Maria knew it might escalate into something more and the whole station would be thrown into chaos. As fun as that would be, Maria sure as shit wouldn't be the one getting blamed for starting it.

There was already a crowd of security personnel dealing with the stall issue, and the stand Ak'tuul had come to see was within earshot if things really turned south. No reason to stick her nose into something that already seems under control. With one ear on the roudy stall listening for the unlikely event that it erupts in gunfire, she approaches the Davultan stall to see what's being shown off at the moment.

Nellie and Maria:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The two man that accompany Maria stand in between the Shrelling and the action, both trying their best to put up those smiles that guards give when they politely ask you to fuck off. The Davultan notices the Shrelling though, and for a second, Nellie could see what might be pity on his eyes, before he looks at Maria, seemingly unshaken by her threats, rather, he seemed annoyed. ‘’I stole nothing human, so I can give nothing back. The shopkeeper is lying to you.’’ The shopkeeper is now shouting, pointing an accusing finger at the reptile: ‘’HE tried to steal a Terov Signal amplifier, but only gave it back when I caught him.’’ The Davultan shakes his head. ‘’I have no time for this’’ He walks towards the soldiers. ‘’Let me through’’

Nellie:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The tech the shopkeeper mentioned is an extremely expensive, but small device, which uses a small warp engine to ‘supercharge’ any signal passing through it to FTL speeds, making the signal virtually undetectable and immune to degradation. These devices are used for long distance communications and are considered very useful, but having to miniaturize a warp engine means they are very expensive and they are definitely not your everyday household item. Nellie doubts the marines know this.

Maria:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Tech skill check: 3=6=9 -> fail

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Maria is sure she heard the name somewhere, but the device mentioned doesn’t seem familiar, anyways, if it is stored in this junkyard of a shop, it can’t be important.

Jan:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Ryan answers, with a bit of a drunken stutter already. ‘’Great, everything is great here, drinking to peace.’’ One of the soldiers quickly shoves a bottle of beer into Jan’s hand and they all raise their drinks, while the sergeant raises his voice as well. ‘’To galactic peace, and the loss of our jobs!’’ The toast is greeted by multiple others in the bar, except for a corner of the bar, where three Davultan seem to be whispering to each other. That might be more interesting, but less fun. On the other hand, she is off duty, and perhaps she has no care in the world about them.

Zilch:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The Displacer looks at Zilch and smiles, though it wasn’t convincing. ‘’This isn’t your normal whorehouse now is it?’’ She groans. ‘’Almost all the people I get to hang out with are crewmates, and I shouldn’t screw them. So I’m here to run away from my duties.’’ She seems a little bit happier when her drink arrives and winks. ‘’Don’t tell my commander, she’ll freak out, we finally convinced her to take a day off, so now I can finally slack myself.’’ She takes a big sip from her drink. Just when she was ready to let you talk again her communicator buzzes, but luckily she doesn’t seem intent on answering it. ‘’Third time in ten minutes. I’m sure they can figure it out without me.’’ Maybe the officer wasn’t taking her job seriously enough?

Ak'Tuul
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The stall seems to not erupt into gunfire for the moment, and no one is coming out yet either, so Ak’tuul takes a look at the Davultan shop. The woman running it smiles at her. ‘’Greetings foreigner. Are you looking for anything specific?’’ Interestingly enough, she seems to be selling some exotic daggers and swords, weapons considered archaic by G-CoS, (though some boarding actions proved that even with modern firearms, a melee weapon could be deadly) Furthermore, the stall contained some interesting fluids, pills, and tech-gizmos, but she would have to ask the shopkeeper for an elaboration if she was looking for anything specific.

"Just check the cameras and be done with it, because since all of our shops should have the security - hell even my workshop has them." she huffs, looking up at the two soldiers.

"You don't have to look at me like that, because I don't exactly plan to barge into the store. Chill." she adds, indeed catching the sympathetic glare from the Davultan, but not doing too much to acknowledge it otherwise.

"Just adding my two creds, since if there actually is a shoplifter, I feel I'd want to know too."

Zilch takes a sip of his drink as he listens to the officer ramble on. He takes an olive from a bowl on the bar and pops it in his mouth, and begins sucking on the pit. It's a strange habit that he finds makes listening to others easier. He gets the feeling that she is not really in the mood to screw, so he tries to think of another way to possibly get her business.

"Not too fond of your job, eh? I can definitely relate to the feeling of being overworked, being a former Davultan Slave and all. A day off for us would be a sick day where they would force us to be bedridden until we got better to work. It was never ending. I like this job better, it lets me have fun and gives me time to relax."

A places a hand on the officer's hand, sending a light, pleasureable electric shock across her body.

"Maybe a little release would make your work a little easier. We always give discounts to service men and women, and I get to choose a client a day to give an extra special discount to. You look like you need it, so I'll give it to you."

Jan giggle and took a swig of the bottle "at least there will always be a need for pilots like me sir" she said winking at him and held the bottle up with the others. "cheers everyone." she chugged some, the booze dribbled down her neck and over her skin tight bodysuit.

Ak'tuul runs her eyes over the various weapons, recognizing several designs as similar to what she'd seen in the hands and on the belts of her former enemies, but she had no desire to spend good money on what were likely knock-offs and costume pieces when her ships armory had a bin of pieces recovered off of the last boarding party. Seeing as she had the shopkeepers attention, she may as well ask some questions, though.

"What are all those? Drugs? Supplements?" she asked with a nod toward the bottles and pills.

She wasn't big on that type of stuff herself, but if there was a drug not yet in the coalition books or a particularly attractive snake-oil she figured the company would want to have one of their subsidiaries pick up on that. It would be found anyway, so may as well get a finders fee for herself.

Zilch:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The Displacer giggles a little. ‘’The Davultan King sounded like a nice boss compared to mine!’’ Her phone stops ringing and Zilch sees the officer relaxing more and more. ‘’That’s why I’m here, and discounts sound great as well.’’ He sees her eyes looking him up like she is preying on him, perhaps that’s her race’s carnivorous roots. ‘’Do you haggle before or after?’’ Whatever his boss puts in those drinks, it sure makes every client much more receptive to seduction.

Ak’tuul:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The shopkeeper smirked a bit, but for some reason seems a bit reluctant to answer after a second look at you. ‘’Tranquilizers, aphrodisiacs, everything you need.’’ Ak’Tuul realises why he didn’t want to share that information, as the Davultan are known for trying to capture live prisoners. The stories people told about that were rather vulgar. Before being able to give an answer, she gets an incoming call on her communicator, a quick glance shows it comes from the bridge of her own bridge. So much for free time.

Nellie and Maria:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The Davultan walks away, and both Maria and Nellie lose sight of him in the crowded outside. The shopkeeper meanwhile, triumphantly sets the piece of tech the Davultan tried to steal on the table. ‘’Maybe I should make it a policy to not sell to Davultan, but after today the Coalition will probably forbid that.’’

Nellie:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Nellie looks at the device, barely able to see it between the guards that are now really trying to get her outside after their boss’s orders to move out themselves. Something was off… Something was missing… The buzz of the warp-engine. The low hum it should give out. Either the shopkeeper was selling a fake item, or he has been stolen from after all!

Jan:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Her enthusiastic reaction and careless spilling of her drink makes sure the attention of all her colleagues was on her. The sergeant himself laughs out loud and smirks at her. ‘’Maybe we should go clean that of pilot’’ He says boldly, earning him laughter from the other drunk men.

Sylvia (intro):
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Serving on the Singapore class carrier was amazing and busy. Sometimes it felt like being a small cog in a machine, which was ironic, but being a medic there was often as hectic as everywhere else, with joy from a life saved was often replaced with the sorrow from the many times a comrade passed away. But now finally, it was time to party! And parties, sadly, meant that the medic was on first aid duty. In the hastily erected infirmary aboard Pax-station Davultan and Coalition doctors are working in unison to treat the victims of mostly substance abuse. Sylvia finds herself finally getting a few minutes rest by the coffee machine. (The intergalactic community was all caffeine addicted, who knew anatomy was so similar across species) A Davultan nurse is taking a cup of coffee himself, smiling towards you as he catches your gaze. The Davultan doctors are all wearing an armband with a red cross to show their position, and the coalition doctors were all wearing a similar armband with some Davultan marking on it which meant the same. The peace wasn’t signed yet but at least the doctors were trying to integrate with each other.

Re: Peace in our time

Sylvia's feelings for the Davultans were a bit mixed. On one hand, they were the reason for many sleepless nights of surgery and inevitable deaths for her. On the other, they had been pretty much in the same boat. It was much like the situation on her home planet. One day they would fight off several of the local predators, the next they would make sure they stayed healthy enough to keep even worse enemies away. While both sides wished for peace, Sylvia knew that many would be unable to forgive and forget. For Sylvia however it didn't matter who her next patient would be, what mattered to her was that she'd be able to help them. If the war continued, she'd be back to the hectic schedule she had before and not everyone would be able to get help in time, despite her mostly cybernetic body letting her do far more work than other medical personell.

Still, no matter how Sylvia felt about the Davultans, staying silent would be rude, so instead she decided to be somewhat productive and sate some of her own curiosity during her break.

"A nice change of pace, right? Peace would be far more sparing on us medics." She began the conversation.
