Why so few Samus and other questions

Postby Nikag » Mon Aug 29, 2011 12:13 am

Why so few Samus projects here?

And other - I'm out of drawing for about 10 years, but LoK projects inspired me to install and study flash this weekends. Now I think to start practicing at drawing myself, but looks like I'll need some special tool for it (course mouse is no good for drawings). Can someone advice me on this, so it to be cheap but good for non-professional like me?

For me one of the best investments I ever made was a wacom bamboo tablet, granted mine is generation 1 and many years old but you can pick up their pen & touch, which is the model that katsu uses. However as a tablet user myself I want to say it is usually easier to do your lines using the program you are using, and do the shading using the tablet, since most people tend not to use the pressure sensors on the tablet well.

Wacom is the best company for tablets. I also got a Wacom Bamboo but mine was a fun. (not sure what the difference it from the normal bamboo)
Something i've heard is you want to get one the size of your screen but i believe that had to do with drawing lines so if your going to do what theadael says then i would go with the Bamboo for sure.

Thx guys, I'll check if I can buy Wacom Bamboo Pen tomorrow. I hope I still own some drawing skills, but we'll se. If you can suggest good topic on human body proportions, I'll be very greatful for this.

And still, I've seen so many Samus content made, but no game even half made as good as Lok v0.2 or another tail was. Why is it so?

The best thing you can do for yourself is draw constantly on paper and not worry about tablets until you can draw well without them. There are things about drawing on paper that are essential to developing artistic style and skill that simply can't be developed as well with a tablet. Namely, on paper, it's harder to erase. This may sound like a bad thing, but without the ability to simply CTRL+Z or erase specific layers cleanly, you develop precision, confidence in your lines, less of a need to erase quite as often, more control over your lines (because paper has more traction than a wacom screen), and it's hella cheaper to draw with paper, pens and the ol #2 Ticonderoga.

That's just my off-topic advice; don't get one.

But so I don't get chewed-out too badly, if you want to start with a tablet, order the smallest wacom / bamboo tablet you can get. My suggestion is get one used from someone who upgraded to a larger one. Don't be like me and splurge on the Cintiq 21UX and forget that it's still hard as hell to draw if you were never that great at drawing in the first place.

I know you're eager to make some LoK stuff, but if you don't want to get back into drawing for the sake of drawing and this is the only reason you want to get a tablet, I strongly urge you to simply pass on it. One little project isn't worth the $200 minimum you'll pay for it.

I think it is. I think the frame gets play once the animation gets done playing.
Can't be sure since i don't know how frames work action script.

I have finally finished my first sprite. :)

Please, don't judge too hard, that is my first drawing for the last 10 years or so...
