Sounds terrible I hope he doesn't have access to chain-sickest and or knows where a continent of monsters are.

Oh yeah. As some of you may have noticed, I have been trying to put more personality into each individual monster that you guys happen across but a side effect to them is that I have to make them stronger so they can handle multiple opponents at once if they fight. I was wondering if you guys like that or if you preferred the more "mobs" feels I had before, like when the orcs actually attacked, by example. The "Goblin" himself is still pretty much borderline faceless, so I'm pondering how to flesh him out, or even if I should. Not saying that I'm not gonna do one or the other exclusively, but I just want to get a feeling for what each of you would find most interesting.

I like the idea, makes some unique while the rest is just part of the crowd and potential fodder for our blades. If you have ideas, then go for them, if not then it's all right that the goblin isn't all that involved as a named NPC.

I like the fleshed out npc's , I'm quite fond of the idea of amassing myself a small hoard of monsters.

Hey Nes do you think you could move the map to the first page of the thread, I feel like I'm going to need to reference it a whole lot more in the future, and it would be great if it was a little easier to find. I guess I could just download the picture and save it somewhere but hey I'm lazy.

I'm down, but not out. I'll probably do something else, depending on how well things turn out. I just need a small break, not for the game itself (although it would help) so I can just relax and take a time to appreciate being alive...

This one looks promising, awkward PvP cluster-fuck notwithstanding. Might as well get myself put on the waiting list, at least. :P

Name: Kenji Ryuushin.
Gender: Male.
Race: Hybrid (Human+Oriental/Eastern Dragon)
Age: 24 (only appears 19, due to his half-dragon genetics).

Perks and skills:
1- Musou Ryuuken Training: Having been born to the Ryuushin family, Kenji was trained in the potent martial art of his lineage, Musou Ryuuken ("Instinctive Dragon Fist"), since the day he could walk. This art is at its strongest when faced with a single opponent, though still sufficient when encountering multiple foes. (Bonus to Physical attributes when facing a single opponent).
2- Soyokaze ("Zephyr") Stance: One of the fundamental passive techniques of Musou Ryuuken, this stance is meant to be taken when the user is approached by superior numbers. While less offensively powerful than the Tetsu no Tsume (Iron Claw) stance used against single foes, it allows Kenji to more easily outmaneuver his enemies, preferably in a way that lets him weed out the weaker ones and challenge their strongest fighter on more equal terms. (Bonus to evasion when outnumbered).
3- Dragon's Strength: While not fully draconic in nature, Kenji did gain some additional strength from his mother's side of the family. His hands and feet show this, appearing more like a dragon's claws, and packing a comparable amount of punch in a fist-fight. Thankfully, the nails on his claws can be retracted like those on a cat, which comes in handy when he's handling more..."delicate" materials. (Strength boost when using punch/kick attacks).
4- Ryu no Ikari ("Dragon's Fury"): Being a hand-to-hand martial art, Musou Ryuuken understands that a single precise blow is not enough for some burlier foes, and thus incorporates a number of combo maneuvers into its techniques. In the hands of a sufficiently skilled practitioner, these combos can bring down even the mightiest of men and beasts. (Each successful strike increases the chance of the next hit landing. Accuracy bonuses from this skill stack with each other.)
5- Tetsu Kyoshin ("Iron Resonance"): Designed to work in tandem with Ryu no Ikari, a series of techniques teach Musou Ryuuken students how to send waves of force through their opponents' body to throw off their senses. This is actually more defensive in purpose than it sounds, as these techniques' primary function is to prevent the opponent from mounting a proper counteroffensive. (Each successful hit reduces the opponent's accuracy on their next attack. Like with Ryu no Ikari, these debuffs stack with each other as the combo count rises.)

Disadvantages and Drawbacks:
1- Cold Blood: While being half dragon can have plenty of perks, dragons are still reptiles, and as such have trouble in conditions their bodies aren't built for. In Kenji's case, his mother was a dragon of the skies, which means she's great in high-altitude locations...but she doesn't deal with excessive heat that well. This passed on to her son, and while he won't suffer a heat stroke on the beach, extreme heat is known to prove...troublesome. (Physical attribute penalty in high-temperature locations).
2- Man of the Fist: Musou Ryuuken is an art with a 2000-year history, and in that history, none have ever adapted it for use with heavy weapons or armor. A rare few have envisioned offshoots for the twin tonfas or nunchaku, but for the most part, the art has focused on honing one's physical body as their weapon. As a result, while he can easily wow audiences with unarmed combat, Kenji's abilities falter significantly if he must carry a hefty load. (Penalty to Dexterity if carrying weight exceeds a light load. This will stack with any over-encumber penalties the GM may already have in place.)
3- Foreign Recluse: Not only is Kenji's homeland of Nippochin, but he was also raised in a dojo, set in the secluded heights of the Hiryusho mountains. As a result, he has some noticeable trouble with certain social customs, especially those not common in Nippochin; while he will often err on the side of caution when in doubt, it doesn't exactly help him fit in at parties... (Penalty to Social attributes when local culture and/or customs are a factor in the scenario.)
4- The Enemy Unseen: While Musou Ryuuken is a formidable style in direct combat, it still retains the one weakness shared by many Nippochin martial arts: those who can strike at the user before he/she can take up a stance will find their defense far easier to pierce than usual. (Extra damage from sneak attacks/backstabs. Does not affect trap perception.)
5- Honor-Bound: Like most of its peers in Nippochin culture, Musou Ryuuken is more than just a martial art; it is a philosophy. Like many philosophies, it comes with a list of rights and wrongs, and it doesn't take an insider to guess that lies and deceit are usually counted among its "wrongs." (Debuff to social attributes when using deception.)

Appearance: (You'll have to just imagine that he has green-scaled dragon claws on his hands and feet. The only way to get a fully-accurate picture for him would be to make one myself...and quite frankly, I suck at drawing.)

Backstory: (Prepare your anus, this is gonna be a long one...)
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

In the land of Nippochin, and totally NOT Hyrule, there echoes a legend...
(One closely-evaded lawsuit from Nintendo later...)

Long ago, in the distant land of Nippochin, there lived a great serpentine dragon of the skies: Tenryuko, Princess of Clouds. Her father, Tenjinmaru, was very proud of her, up to when the time came for her to choose a mate and raise the next generation of sky dragons. At that time, a fact most disturbing to her race came up: she already had someone in mind...but he was not a dragon. No, her sights were set on a young monk of the Hiryusho Dojo: Yamato Ryuushin, successor to the art of Musou Ryuuken. She had used her magic powers as a dragon to enchant a gem of hers, letting her take on human form, sneaking out while her family slept to visit the young Ryuushin heir, and through repeated visits, her love for him grew from that of a friend into that of a bride. She couldn't hide their dirty little secret from her family forever, though...and once her father found out, he was understandably enraged. The thought of his own daughter lowering herself to such a form to chase "self-destructive fantasies" had set a furious fire in his eyes, a fire that yearned to raze the Hiryusho Dojo to the ground.

Foreseeing the vengeance her father had in mind, Tenryuko took flight to reach the Dojo before him, arriving not a moment too soon; by the time she arrived, the monks were already lying prostrate in awe as one of the great dragons they revered came swooping down from the mountain peak. Before Tenjinmaru could unleash his thunderous dragon breath upon the hapless dojo, Tenryuko dove in front of him, standing as a barrier between him and the human she loved. The following father-daughter exchange came in the thunderous tongue of her own kind, so loud that some claim she deafened the dojo's headmaster.

"Stand aside, daughter!"
"I will not! I cannot remain idle while you punish these people unjustly!"
"'Unjustly?!' These...THINGS robbed my daughter of her heart! Poisoned her mind with the highest heresies! A child of mine, wedding a lowly HUMAN?! Don't make me laugh!!"
"My heart was not stolen, father. It was given to him by my own free will! There is no crime in that! If you still intend to kill him..."

The monks' mouths stood agape in shock as the slightly smaller sky dragon lifted up a round gem, transforming into a beautiful emerald-haired maiden before their very eyes.

"...then you will have to kill me, as well!"
"T-...Tenryuko..."
"My love is as true as yours is for mother...and whether or not it is as evil as you claim, I am fully prepared to die for it."

For what amounted to roughly 12 seconds, yet seemed like an eternity, Tenjinmaru could only float there and growl. The belief that no dragon should ever love a "lesser being" was a deeply-ingrained one for him...yet in order to adhere to it, he would have to kill his only child in cold blood, something that no real father could ever do. As the humans would put it, he was "caught between a rock and a hard place."

In the end, he chose to relent, allowing his daughter the chance to be with her one true love. Tenryuko was overjoyed upon realizing this, as was her lover Yamato. They were married in the summer of the following year, and wasted no time in having their first child: a rare half-dragon they named Kenji.

Kenji's upbringing, like many of those who study at the Hiryusho Dojo, was a secluded one. Being born into the family of the dojo's Headmaster meant that his opportunities to leave the dojo were few and far between. Like all who came before him in the bloodline, he was trained extensively in the art of Musou Ryuuken, including secrets of the art that not even the other students were allowed to learn. His only friends were his fellow trainees, and they did little to hide their jealousy of him. Not only was he the new Headmaster's son, but he also had the physical advantages of being half dragon: he could move faster, jump higher, and hit harder than any full-blooded human. Indeed, this did get him bullied from time to time, but that only encouraged him to train even harder.

Unfortunately, it seems that not all the sky dragons were as merciful as Tenjinmaru.

It was a particularly cold winter night when it happened. The students were sleeping, and Kenji had just reached age 18. What few guards were still awake were prepared for some messy rabble of mountain bandits...but fate had another opponent in mind for them. With naught but a torrential bombardment of wind to signal his arrival, the great sky dragon Raitsume barreled down from the snowy heights, declaring his intent to complete the dragons' vengeance where Tenjinmaru faltered. He made terrifyingly short work of the guards, and sent many of the trainees running for their lives. Even Headmaster Yamato's knees could not contain their shaking at the sight of what sought his demise, and for a moment, he feared that this was the end...

"HENSHIN!!"

Just then, in a flash of emerald light, Tenryuko shed the human form she had grown so accustomed to, challenging Raitsume dragon-to-dragon. Their duel was fierce, bloody, and loud as the thundering skies around them...and in the end, the former Princess of Clouds emerged victorious, though only by a hair's breadth. She collapsed not long after, reverting back to her human form by force of habit, barely alive. She was rushed with all haste to the doctor, who had fortunately managed to survive the attack...but her wounds were deep, and it was unclear if she'd ever open her eyes again.

Naturally, Kenji did not take this well. The whole point behind that vengeful attack was out of spite for his parents' love, which he could not have been born without. He felt that as long as he remained at the dojo, another attack was inevitable...and the next one would have a much higher body count. Seeing no other option, he wrote a note explaining the situation to his father, packed up his things, and left the dojo under cover of night, doubtful that he would ever return. It was heartbreaking, yes, but to Kenji, it was better than staying there and waiting for another dragon to kill them all.

Over the next few years, he kept his family name hidden from the public, taking on the persona of a vagrant monk simply named "Kenji." It was convenient, as it not only kept him hidden from the dragons' prying ears, but it also allowed him to travel more freely than he ever could have back at the Dojo. Over time, the Hunter Guilds took interest in his powerful martial arts, offering him a job position. In Kenji's mind, the perks of said job far outweighed the risks: not only was the pay good, but he'd also get the chance to travel all over the world, instead of being confined to the borders of Nippochin. A few signatures later, he was officially a Hunter, and could test his martial arts against creatures that - like him - exceeded the limits of a standard human being.

Kenji's most recent job opportunity has taken him to Eopeth, a sort of frontier land for present-day civilization. The young half-dragon has always had a bit of trouble getting used to the new culture he now sails towards, but he's sure that will pass with time. Besides, few Musou Ryuuken practitioners ever wander far from the Hiryusho mountains, much less to an entirely new continent; this is his chance to contribute to the world in ways that his ancestors never would have imagined. Still, he's greatly hoping that he doesn't encounter any dragons in Eopeth, considering his prior experiences...

Really interesting character, I'll put you on the waiting list right away. Which reminds me I have to poke Icaelus about his character, if he's not able to come up with one soon then I might have to pass on the spot to the next person in the waiting list.

Heh, don't worry, Reavs. If anything, Kenji would just mistake Yasker for a ninja or something, considering the type of culture he came from...though, that would admittedly make for a potentially funny scene.
