Jane "War Mumma" Doe used to be Loyalist, she earnestly believed in what they were doing. Now she isn't much of anything, and doesn't believe in much of anything... that will happen when you dreams get incinerated in brief flash of light and giant mushroom cloud.
Her company had called themselves the 89th Cavalry, part of the old 10th Mountain. They'd just been some fools strapping armour to whatever wheels they could find or looting stuff from museums and playing at tanks. But it had worked, and her crew became a family and their old Sherman tank a home. That's where the stupid nickname had come from, the way she looked after her crew... a night on the piss near a tattoo parlour hadn't help her lose it either.
Then the blast came. It had been just a normal day, they'd stopped for break and she'd been the last one out, half way out the hatch when it happened. For a second she watched, watched her family burn to ash in an instant. That pause, only a second long was enough to scorch and singe her back before she dropped back into the safety of the tank. When it was over and she came out she saw everything was gone, Hatchet, her family, even her home was now a fused together lump of steel with 4 black shadows etched into it, and pieces of her inside.
So she started walking, to nowhere in paticular, it was always easy to find some trouble somewhere. Recently she found herself walking back along paths she'd already walked, to an old rusted lump of metal, with four black shadows.
