The only military surplus rifle I've messed around with is a 30-30, and all I can remember about that thing is that we couldn't keep it firing for more than about 30 shots before something else would break.

Are you sure it wasn't a 30-40? Don't think I can think of any 30-30s that weren't lever guns. Also sounds like a real.rough piece of work!

I'm pretty sure it was the M1 carbine, a gun that fires the 30-30 Winchester round. Still, it's been years since we had to retire it to the dusty back of the gun safe, and I haven't taken a good look at it in a while.

Ah! Not a 30-30 just regular 30 carbine. Take some pictures and share. Good guns might just need some TLC... I would love to get my hands on it.

Fun fact! The M1 Carbine was created so that Paratroopers would have a smaller more manueverable weapon to drop with that took magazines. They often complained though because the 30 carbine cartridge was absolutely tiny and had zero stopping power. But yet it still was in use up in til the Vietnam war where it was replaced at last with the M-16 rifle. Which was absolute garbage and jammed constantly until it was fixed with the A1 series.

Not letting it die! History lessons kiddos! Who here knows what a German luger is? A lot of you? Good! Now who gets knows that its older than both of the world wars? Less hands there.. well that's why we have lessons. Now who knew that they sent some to America both as commercial sale and only a thousand for testing as a possible service pistol.. not very many at all.. well they did. Most of these managed to survive the testing. But they weren't chambered in that wonderful(or not) 9x19 parabellum cartridge. They were chambered in 30 luger. Or 7.65 parabellum for you metric types. Of these 1000 pistols only 800 or so survived. And based on those testing it lead to the adoption of the world famous and much copied Colt 1911. And below is a picture of a fine example of the few remaining American Eagle Test lugers. Owned by yours truly~ x3
