The village surrounding the doors of the Haven was not a small village; it had only prospered by the fact that the haven lie underneath it, drawing in traders and fortune seekers, and thus the village had erected itself. With word spreading across the land that the haven had increasing his supply runs in the last few months, more people had found their way into the village; including some spies of some of the most notorious gangs out in the wastelands. Unknown to the mayor of the settlement, the gangs were already underway when the spies had been compromised. After some rounds in the torture chambers the poor fellows admitted that they were indeed spies, and that the gangs were only a couple of days away from the village. The last thing they said was that the gangs were planning on exterminating everyone of less importance in the village, then replacing the missing civilians with their own men. Then, as the suppliers of the Haven would venture on like always, they were planning on infiltrating those runs somehow, trying to get access to Haven. Once inside, even only one man, the gates could be opened and the horde could be set loose on the halls of the deathtrap.
The mayor was not easily scared, for that was one of the reasons he was appointed mayor, and took no chances; he had sent runners in all directions asking for help against the gangs. Yuuko answered this call.
Yuuko was not a soldier; she was more of a lone wolf then a mercenary, but like everyone out in the wastes she needed money to buy what she couldn’t hunt down. And thus she heeded the call, and traveled all the way from the mountains surrounding the village to the village itself. She was warmly welcomed by the villagers, but upon seeing her cold eyes it didn’t took long before gossip started to spread in the last days before the attack.
Yuuko was only one of the many that came to the call, and most of them were loners. A good strategist was needed to help turn the tide of this battle, and that strategist was found in the mayor also. The mayor had first tested the individual skills of those that had heeded the call, before appointing their places. Most were positioned in the mountains and the outskirts of the town, serving as a first barrier. Then the more promising mercenaries were positioned around the key areas of the settlement, like the water purifier and the trading post. The villagers that wanted to fight, mostly men, were positioned in the major’s office, along with the major himself. From here they could serve as the backup if any of the defenses were breached.
Some, like Yuuko, were appointed to places where they could best use their skills, and that is how yuuko found herself in the tower of an old church, the interior used as a shelter for the woman and children. Yuuko was told not to move from this given spot, and she was reluctant to disobey. The mayor was a good man, and had a good head, and her skills with her rifle were indeed best used here. She had placed her trusty rifle on a bag of pees for the balance, and had piled up multiple ammunition boxes next to her. She had no chair, or even place to sit down at all; but luxury was for the faint of hearted. And that was how she waited.
When the following dawn arrived, small figures could be seen on the horizon. With each passing hour they grew in numbers, until finally the horizon was littered with vehicles and men, all thirsting for blood. When the sun was at its highest, they slowly began their approach. First they had to cross the mountains, the first line of defense. It only took them an hour. Wounded mercenaries found their way back to the village, and were appointed a new unit, but survivors were few, and moral had sunk.
The gangs were rejoiced at their small victory, for they new that they had not only killed many of the man at arms present in the village, but they knew that they had the advantage. Some broke rank, and ran from the hills towards the village. Yuuko was the fourth to fire her gun that moment, but the first to kill a raider. The small skirmish had soon ended, and left the gangs with more casualties then the village, luckily. Then, out of nowhere, all the raiders were ordered forward simultaneously. It was clear that the heads of the gangs were taking advantage of their numbers; and they were right to do so. With approximately eight raiders for every man, woman and child present in the village they had no reason to think of anything but victory. Yuuko was determined to let them think otherwise.
''Now I've... Had... The time of my life..." She sang, calming her heartbeat to allow herself that perfect shot before pulling the trigger, "No i've never felt like this before... *squeezes* yes i swear, its the truth... *squeezes* and i owe it all to you~ *pulls the trigger* 'Cause i've... Had... The time of my life... *pulls* And i owe it all to you~ *squeezes*
