Mika finds herself in a small quandary.
It's her first day leaving the Academy of Dungeoneers, the Adventurer training school of fame and glory. Though she was quite a good student, and learned many potent magics..
Her first quest is sending her off, alone and without much aid, to a dangerous dungeon. Or perhaps dangerous, at least. It's old.
Very old.
The Keep of Old is just as ancient as its name suggests. It lies above a long and fertile valley long plagued with monster attacks. The Keep was a research station and stronghold against these beasts, choking them off from reaching the main settlements beyond the valley mouth, whilst also studying the very.. Unique organisms that they fought.
It was lost in a long, harsh battle many years ago. No monsters have come through since, and many doubt they ever will. It's thought that the monsters only ever attacked the keep because of the people inside.
However, the survivors of the siege had to make sacrifices.. and rather than sacrifice lives, they sacrificed books. Valuable, knowledge-filled tomes that could contain vital secrets or intriguing finds from the mages and wizards who populated the research division. While the more book-wormish of the Academy lamented the loss of such precious things, the majority of the graduates approved of the decision to save people, and not pages.
However, that doesn't mean they wouldn't go back for them.
And that's where Mika comes in. She's not even really supposed to be looking for the secrets hidden inside the stone walls rising far above her head, as she stands at the gate to the decrepit place. She's just supposed to scout, find out who, or what, inhabits the halls.. And then return to the Academy with her findings.
But something about this whole thing feels off.
As it stands, the gates are open.. Wide open, leading into the paved courtyard of the Keep.
