DomJoe Wrote:Here's the problem that I'm seeing: right now, there is very little reason for our characters to care about the situation, because of the following points:
A) The character mainly driving the action has already been established as useless and only worth as much as a distraction. Not a good way to start off a speech segment, especially when it lasts more than 2 posts.
B) Our characters cannot give any sort of response that can distinguish themselves from someone else's reaction. Monokuma's little cut in there doesn't give us much else to do either. There's alot of talking going on, but not much to actually react to. In the words of Monty Python, "Get on with it!". There is alot of build up, but no punchline to this whole scene.
C) The whole speech could have technically been written in one post, as well as getting to the real action, if it wasn't going to be important in the first place. I'm all up for setting the mood, but a boring mood will get the players bored. It also feels like you're stalling for time, for some reason
D) While we're on the subject, using a licensed character in an RP that was supposed to be original is pretty much a huge let down for players in general, especially considering Monokuma's impact in the series he is from. You can certainly have a character inspired by the bear to be the villian for this RP, but if it's going to be a straight up rip, we might as well be playing a different RP.

I'm not sure if I'm capturing the opinions of everyone in this RP, but that's how I see this RP going. Everyone else, feel free to clarify and respond.

Ok, those are all fair points i cant argue against. So then, what would you have me do to keep this moving? I am not good at gming, and most of this has just been guesswork on my part.

Alright, here's the first step if you want to help get us back on track:

See this? Discard this notion. It's only going to hold you back. Yes, things haven't been up to par, but that doesn't make you bad if you're willing to try and fix it. I would suggest that in the future, guage what will get the most response and what will get the least response out of your players. Always try to elaborate on your responses: there are plenty of small details that you can add into your responses. For example, how is the rest of the crowd acting? What does the assembly hall look like? Did anything noticeably happen when Momokuma hijacked the presentation? The more details you give, the more likely you will get more elaborate responses out of your players. That doesn't mean you have to write a whole lot either. In my own experiences GMing, sometimes its hard to give your players good amounts of detail, especially if you you're trying to get them to follow a certain path. I know that the quality of my posts can fluctuate easily depending on what's going on story wise in an RP, both GM wise and player wise. However, I still try to give as many relevant details as I can when writing up my posts. In addition, if you're writing for an event, try gauging how many posts you'll need to write it in advance. If it seems like it will take a long amount of posts to cover, then there needs to be a good amount of content or reason why players will be stuck at that event for so long.

I would also like to see a more original villain take the helm in this scenario, but that can be hard to retcon, given you've already clearly established who it is. This will have to be something you keep in mind in the future, but try to keep licensed content out of original RPs. It's alright if an original villain has some things based off of another, but a full copy is pretty much plagiarism, which is unacceptable in any medium. Try to stay away from using too many common tropes when making a villain or even an NPC: tropes can be nice to use for flavor, but if they are used to much, they can bog down the enjoy ability of interacting with other characters.

Anyways, that's all I have to say on the matter. Remember that you do have Bass as your GM, and I'm sure he can help you out on turning this RP around. All the other players can help out as well, but you need to show us that you're up for the job.

Sooo, apparently we went overboard on the 30 page limit on the main game and I need to lock it. And we are a bit at a stalemate thanks to TM's latest post and all for us we can't do squat thanks to how limited there is to work with. That being said...

I am in the process of working on a new post, one that will kick things back towards having some fun, even if things are getting to night. However, there will be things that going bump at night, in more ways than one ;) So yeah I don't have anything yet at the moment for plots, but I will probably create some stuff to keep everyone doing something, no matter how small or how big the post. Plus I need to do some retconning because some of us aren't that happy with who interrupted the speech. Give me the weekend, because I got to work on my own story, but I will have the second part of this story up, and hopefully all of us can get back going with this story!

Yeah, I was going to say something, but then I realized it would be a double post. Is everything OK vintage? I haven't heard from you.

Brain fart. Anyway, there is an idea in my head, I just need to find some time to write it up.
