Yes, and then when you get more people, I'll let you know (IC of course) when you can increase the amount. And you can speak either as an omnipresent being watching over your tribe, or as the tribe leader himself.

Athena's Chosen are a new tribe, formed when a power vaccuum broke out after the death of one of the oldest leaders of the people of Hellas. In the chaos, a charismatic young man managed to gather a following by claiming that it was time for a new course, time to stop looking back to the past and start the crusade to reclaim the wonders that the old stories tell of. He and his supporters left their old lands and tribes, seeking a new start outside the influence of the older tribes. The first year was a challenge, devoted solely to forging their rough group into a fully functioning tribe, but now that they have survived the winter in their new home, it is time to seek out their destiny.

Ancient Greece/Rome via the Enlightenment... sort of. There are a few other influences as well, not to mention the fact that several millenia of history tends to scramble things somewhat even without throwing a new dark age into the mix.

If possible, I'd like to start out with one pre-fall artifact to explain my Mathematics tech: either a slide rule (my first choice) or a set of trig & log tables (would be less 'powerful') made out of something designed to survive the end of civilisation (ceramic or an anti-corrosion metal alloy, probably). I'm picturing it as the only remnant of an attempt at storing the key parts of the pre-fall knowledge base - whether the rest is lost or destroyed would be up to GM's discretion.

Maybe it's just my inner math geek speaking, but I'd say the trig functions/log tables would be about ten times more powerful!

Even without calculus, those two can allow folks to do everything from tracking the movement of the stars for travel, to tracing the curvature of a sword, to most of the basic sciences.

Believe me, my inner math geek entirely agrees with yours... but a good slide-rule will include trig/log functions.

Edit: on the other hand (and highly relevant to the current thread), while they enable a whole load of neat tricks, strictly speaking they only gives you the necessary mathematical knowledge. The engineering knowledge to actually make use of that is a different story entirely.

The Toryan tribe has always been a peacful tribe, they seek to unite the tribes of this world and make them great. Make them great just like the tree's tell them they will be. The trees have always been an essential life giving resource to the toryan tribe and they have (rightly so) made the Trees their gods and their idol of worship. The Trees tell them many things, such as sources of food, or warnings of tribes with malicious intent. The trees feel their hatred and send a warning to their children. Traditionally the leader is chosen among the few who can hear the trees melodious songs, regardless of their ability they are chosen from the people by the people. Even the most mundane tasks are centered around the trees, as an example, even gathering wood they must ask permission to end that tree's life in order to gather its resources. They must ask their permission to even climb them to gather the fruits of their tree tops. Ultimately the Toryan tribe seeks to unify the world's tribes under the voice of the world.

The Redsun Horde is a recent creation, the result of the discovery of bronze working and Drathern's formidable charisma. Drawing from nomadic raiders across the desert, he's armed them and leads them in increasingly audacious raids against the worlds other tribes for loot, women and territory.

Socially there are four classes in the Horde: Smith, Warrior, Freeman and Slave, in decreasing order of prestige and influence. Smith's serve both their obvious role and as a sort of religious class, believing the secrets of metal-working are the result of divine inspiration from the dreaming Ancients. Drathern himself claims the title high smith as the ultimate spiritual authority of the tribe, as well as having the final say of who shall be taught the secrets of bronzeworking. High ranking and respected Smith's form the highest level of the upper class in the Horde, and enjoy many different privileges.

Warriors, making up the majority of the population currently, are the second class in standing. Anyone willing to hold a weapon and obey orders may take the title of aspirant, but it's only once they have successfully participated in a raid or battle that they are full warriors. Warrior's enjoy several privileges over their social inferior, but are expected to be totally obedient to the Warlord who leads them to victory.

Freeman make up the "everyone else", mainly merchants and foragers. They are somewhat looked down upon and not given much consideration by their social betters, but they are accepted as necessary.

Slavery is the cornerstone of the Redsun economy and society. Smiths are Warrior's are entitled to any slaves they personally capture on raids, which can be given to the clan for a greater share of other loot. A rather patriarchal society, The Redsun consider a woman's primary purpose in life to be pleasuring or breeding the heir of her man, and any woman who reaches childbearing age is expecting to pledge themselves to a male master, as once they are no longer a child and their father's property they default to being the Warlord's, and available for use by anyone of the tribe. Even when pledged, Freeman woman are often taken by warriors and smiths who fancy them, with little to no legal recourse.
