Alanis felt nervous as she went down the elevator with Odessa, but they seemed to arrive safely. The restricted area certainly held quite a few things that would be worthy of such a section, but Odessa manages to find an item that gets her skin crawling. This book made of skin and bone was clearly unnatural, and the title didn't reassure her at all. "Is... is this what you came here for?" Alanis questioned. The answer would have to wait, however, because she felt the same sensation once more, even stronger than before. "It's here," Alanis said, loading the witch hunting rounds into her gun while looking about for the source. "We need to get out of here now..."

Rosette "accidently" stepped down hard on the man's injured hand, mashing the fingers under her armoured boot and pressed the still hot shroud of the flamer against his face briefly.

"Tell me Heretic, are their any more of you traitorous ilk outside?" She growled through her mask, "Tell me or feel his righteous justice upon you."

With her targets identified, Faye assessed the area that they had teleported into for the best attack route. While she could charge straight at them, doing so would leave her open to them fireing at her or escaping before she would be able to engage. No, in this situation she would need to get closer before attacking. Drawing her stub gun, Faye kept low as she moved out to the fountain, intending to loop round and engage the two cultists with her pistol until close enough to charge at them and bring them face-to-face with her saw

Odessa walks into the archives, ready for anything to happen. It is filled with so many books. Books that might teach her so much! It was a shame they were all classified down here. It was the first time she had ever seen so many banned books and scriptures. Following her instinct she comes across something that makes her eyes lock on it. A black cloth covering something. Pulling away the cloth she witnesses something heretic and corrupted. The book was unlike something she had ever seen. Flesh and bones were the fabrics of its covers. And it was crawling. The tome's title didn't say her much but she'd never heard of heretic books.

The voice came to her head. It was this that she was looking for! This could be the only reason why Chaos had appeared on this planet! But could it really save the planet? It was clearly of Chaotic origin. It could corrupt her if she wasn't careful. But her companion inside her mind urged her to take it. Alanis seemed to have been shaken by this thing as well. "Is... is this what you came here for?" she asked as Odessa was examining the book, still a bit reluctant to touch it. "Alanis, I think this is the reason why Chaos has appeared here. Some higher official must have used it to summon the forces of Chaos!" In Odessa's mind it all made sense. Someone must have used it for bad things. She reached out for the book, but before she had grabbed the book Alanis warned her. "It's here. We need to get out of here now..." Odessa quickly looks around, not feeling it. Turning to Alanis she knows when to trust a fellow psyker though. "Alright, we need this with us, then let's go!" She hastily wraps it up in the cloth, accidental ending up touching its living surface. The sensation is weird... bizarre... pulling her fingers back again to cover it up completely she is ready to leave. "Let's get out of here!"

Outside the Archives sirens began to wail as the Imperial Guard attempted a firm push on planetary fortress Arylia. A massed wave of fighter craft appeared on the horizon bolting toward the city at high speeds. The fortress's in built anti aircraft guns whirled alive and even without operators their logic circuits began predicting the trajectories of oncoming bombers. As sun set on the fortress hundreds of fighter craft became fireballs raining hell across the city and surrounding territory. Those that got their payload off leveled entire city blocks before pulling away from the lethal hail of fire. The Guard had committed a huge amount of resources to that push but thanks to the fortresses inbuilt systems the damage had been minimal and the fronts miles away hadn't shifted in the slightest as supplies continued to flow out of the hive.

The wail of the siren could only just be heard over the roaring flames. Sister Rosette glanced upward at the noise and it probably saved her life. One of the attack craft had careened into the archives at that moment causing the fourth floor roof to cave in and send debris tumbling down all the way to ground level. She jumped aside from one support beam only for the upper balcony to collapse falling directly on top of her. Yet again her armor protected her from any serious damage but the wind had been knocked out of her and her flamer tumbled over to the ground next to the prone rebel she had been threatening a moment ago. He got to his feet shakily and to her surprise moved past the flamer to start shifting the rubble away from the sister. "This would be a lot easier if I had two hands to work with..." His foot had nearly been crushed by the power armor and judging by the slight slur in his voice and unfocused eyes. Something was driving him to save her whether it was some strange code of honor he had or the Emperor himself instilling some semblance of mercy in him. Whatever the case with his help she's quickly freed but its obvious they can't stay long in this building. "Its so damn hot in here... " He said resting against one of the book shelves while she collected herself.

Meanwhile below the sister and traitor Odessa carefully began wrapping the vile book in the cloth that had been used to cover its case. The ground suddenly shook as something above exploded. Odessa's hand slipped, making contact with the cover and a wave of nausea overcame her almost causing her to stumble into another book stand. Alanis was there to help her recover but she suddenly felt a horrible presence forming behind them. A rip in the warp slowly tore its way up from the tiled floor, the psychic presence she had felt had finally manifested. "RETURN MY FLESH!" the rift screamed as a deformed elongated arm reached up to grab Odessa by the leg pulling her onto the ground and dragging her towards the rift. By this point the elevator door was forced open as Ash arrived to find the Psykers had inevitably opened up a rift the warp...

Odessa
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Spirit Roll to resist corruption: 6(Roll) VS 4 = Success.
As her fingers touch the flesh of the book Odessa's mind is assaulted with an array of horrible images. Bodies being rent apart and pieced together in different new and unnatural ways. The creatures served all manner of purposes only their insane creator might fully comprehend... Odessa is lucky that her mind is pulled away from such foul images only to wake and realize a physical hand was the one pulling her!

In the gardens Faye made her way behind the cultists and it actually looked like she had a decent shot at tearing them apart without them ever knowing better but then the Imperial Guard bombardment started and everyone nearby was knocked to the ground from the blast. Fortunately for her Faye was the first one back on her feet as the cultists scrambled around trying to find their way back up. Her saw glides in a smooth arc cutting one from shoulder to ribs cleanly through his torso and continues to land in the next ones eyes removing the top of his head. Naturally she's spattered with the gore but it wasn't anything new. The ground shook again as a bomb went off within the garden itself eviscerating the gardening servitor in a white flash of light. The tech priest smiled nodding to Faye. "This one preforms her function well." She stated praising the pit fighters ferocity. Unfortunately for them more voices could be heard approaching, probably not alerted to them but this garden seemed to be a major crossroads for this sector. Faye glanced around and saw three possible locations for shelter, the first was a small building set at one end of a bridge that led to a large complex set apart from the main city, it was currently on fire and she watched as one of the fighter craft impacted the roof. The gate house looked sturdy enough and was on the safe side of the bridge far away from that flaming wreckage. Back behind their drop location was the fortresses starport, while definitely sturdy enough to resist this blast it was likely crawling with enemies. The final option was a nearby hab-block the large structures used to house imperial families. While they were almost certain to run into someone there odds are they were merely civilians that may not even bother with the three of them. Their medic had come over at some point shaking her head when the Tech priest asked about their fourth member.

Alanis grabs Oddessa as she appears to slip and lose her footing for a moment, but that was all it took for the worst to happen. A rift had opened in the floor somehow, and a hand reached out to grab Odessa, screaming at them to return its flesh. Flesh? The book? That thing is what the book is made out of?! Alanis' mind races as she begins to connect the dots, but she doesn't have much time to think of how this book could have been made with the help of daemon flesh. Instead, she grips her stub automatic and fires wildly at the arm, hoping the witch hunting rounds loaded into it would do the job in freeing Oddessa and possibly silencing this horrible creature.

Rosette gasped for breath as she was trapped under the rubble, unable to free herself she panicked as the flamer skittered across the floor to the cultist. Her mind filled with images and being roasted alive inside her armour and she was shocked when he started to help. She broiled slightly at his comments but kept her tongue, in case he left her there to burn.

"Why aide me, heretic?" She asked once she was free, regaining her flamer.

Sweat coated her body inside the armour as she scanned around the archives. They couldn't stay here much longer, even in her armour she was starting to bake.

"The ceiling is coming down, I can't stay." She spoke into her vox bead to the rest of the team, "You'll need to find another way out if you don't hurry, rally at the Tower of Faith."

She took the Rebel's arm and threw it over her shoulder to take his weight as they walked. She contemplated leaving him behind, but he had saved her... maybe he could be redeemed.

As Odessa touches the book nightmarish images run through her mind. She sees bodies being ripped apart and put back together to create the cover of the book. She can't help but fear she has been cursed and now too will join the lost souls on the cover... until she is pulled out of the visions. Looking up she sees Alanis hold her, seemingly shocked and looking at something. It is then that Odessa feels the power of the warp around her becomes aware of the thing pulling her leg. Looking down she is horrified by the Daemon that is now trying to drag her down into the rift. "RETURN MY FLESH!" it screamed. The book! It had to be!

But Odessa wouldn't give it up. If this Daemon got it there was a chance it would become stronger. But she hardly had time to think. Almost by instinct she channelled the power of the warp as she was about to unleash her Warpfire spell to drive the arm off at the same time as Alanis fired her weapon at it.

Faye smile to herself as she easily dispatched the two cultists in a spray of viscera. Just like back in the pits, she thought to herself. Praise from the tech priest gave her a boost as well, even though he was not her handler, but commendation for job well done had been a goal almost programmed into her brain. Still, she was enough of her own person to be more than a mindless servitor, or slaved archo-flegellent.

Noises coming towards them caused her to snap back to face them, combat instincts almost taking over once again until a fighter craft crashed down and secondary explodions could be heard rippling away. "We need cover!" she shouted, looking around for possible exits. It didn't matter how good a fighter she was if a large hunk of metal landed on her head. Options were limited - a sturdy but burning guardhouse, the spaceport, or an intact hab block. "This way!" she called to the other two as she set off at a jog towards the residential buildings. With a bit of luck, they would be able to remain hidden, or at the least pass themselves off as locals with a suitable disguise

Making her way down the elevator shaft was easier then expected, cutting through the cabin's roof was interrupted by quake. Whatever has caused it wasn't just the fire in the archives. Ash finishes her activity, jumps into the elevator cabin and opens the door.

Ash watches the sort of a scene sister Rosette has expected: two psykers has managed to summon some sort of warpspawn. For a moment, she contemplates blasting all of them with her neural shredder. Both women are fighting the thing reaching from the warp rift, though, and while Ash's weapon would effect them, she's not so sure about the daemon. Ash served Ordo Xenos, not Ordo Malleus, so her knowledge of Deamon's weaknesses and vulnerabilities is nonexistant.

Then, her voxbead came to life. More bad news from Rosette. Ash responds by brief description of her own situation. "We're in the restricted section, there is a warp rift, psykers are fighting some creature reaching through. Not sure if they are responsible. Any advice?" Listening for answer, but not waiting, Ash runs toward the psykers, her phase blade prepared to strike the hand holding Odessa. It can cut through any material, time to see how well it fares agains the monster from Immaterium...

To Hit: 7 VS 6
To Wound: 12 VS 10, Shaken

Rosetta: Rolls
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Vigor VS Environment, 5(Roll)+2(Suit) = 7 VS 4 = Success

The fires rage through the Archives and the smoke has become thick enough to hinder vision and the heat is practically cooking Sister Rosetta alive in that armor. Thankfully the mask filters most of the harmful gas away and she keeps pushing herself despite her bodies protests. Her captive isn't doing nearly as well and her arm starts to feel heavier as he leans on her for support. He grits his teeth hissing as she realizes her suit is actually burning his already ruined hand, between the missing fingers, third degree burns and multiple breaks or fractures its unlikely he'll ever use it again. She drags him through the lobby and out the large doors into the hall where the smoke drifts outward and the heat lets up. The small corridor turns to the other set of doors, she opens them to find a long bridge extending to the main section of the city. She could continue dragging the half dead rebel across the fifty meters or so of flat open terrain and hope no one's in the gatehouse on the other side or rest for a moment.

In the restricted Archives the rest of the kill team struggles to combat the unholy monstrosity emerging from the warp. Odessa starts to loose her grip on a nearby display case when Alanis drops to one knee grabbing the other Psykers hand and fires a shot at the daemon. The bolt blows a hole in the demons palm and the round stops on Odessa's flak boot, the demon lets out a scream of anger and surprise. When Odessa channels the warp fire she underestimates the power of the warp rift and puts more into the blast than she had anticipated, fire erupts from the growing hole in the circle and two more arms emerge. Ash slashes at the limb but before her blade can connect another arm hits her midsection sending her over a nearby display case where she lands stunned for a brief moment as the wind is knocked out of her. As the warpfire continued to run over the Daemon it let out a terrible laughter that shattered nearby display cases. The horrible laugh cut into Odessa's psyche, she had unleashed a daemon whether it had been her intention or not and now it was going to slaughter her comrades. Just thinking about the horrible creatures of the warp made her nauseous now. The rift started to grow steadily and soon it seemed this thing might fully enter the world if it wasn't stopped. The structure trembled as something heavy gave way above them and the ceiling began to crack possibly weakened by the infernal cry.

Faye and the second Kill Team pushed through the streets toward the large hab-block, thankfully there were no rebels or cultists guarding the structure and they were able to slip in through the main entrance. There were no attendants in the offices, only lines of women, children, and the elderly resting against walls. It seemed the building was pushed far past its normal housing limits. All of them looked away as the inquisitorial group pushed through but Faye could see them staring at her blood stained arm and the Tech priests strange augmentations. They made their way to a store room which was locked but through the grate Faye could see food supplies stacked up high kept away from the populace until they were to be distributed. That room could serve as a reasonable hiding spot so long as she could intimidate the locals.

This daemon was terrible in every nightmare fueled way, but Alanis kept her grip on Odessa, knowing that she couldn't let her or the book fall into the monster's hands. Which he grew an extra set of... if this kept up, they might not be able to hold this thing back! Ash was there to help, but she was knocked about by the daemon when she tried to attack. "Ash, try to get Odessa out of the daemon's grip! I have an idea, but we need her secured first!" Alanis shouted to her comrade, continuing to fire at the hands that were coming out, hoping that she will not run out of rounds soon...

I wont say I told you so, thought Rosetta as she struggled through smoke, I'll just brand it across their foreheads!

"Faith and fire," She coughed into her vox bead, replying to Ash, "Faith and fire."

Rosette stopped to rest once she was outside, sitting the rebel against the wall a safe distance from the burning building. She collapsed to her hands and knees, hands madly fumbling to release the locks on her helmet and cool off. The air outside felt chilled as the seal broke and rapidly cooled the sweat that soaked her face and hair, and iced her lungs as she took in big, ragged gasps. Rolling to her back as he vision swam, she felt her breasts grind against her armour as her chest heaved and she sucked on the hydration straw and sprouted from her collar.

Her head rolled to the side as she considered the rebel. She would try to bind his wounds as best she could and make a sling for his arm with whatever was to hand. After that she would march him as best she could to the gate house, him in front with her silenced bolter concealed behind his back. If the gate house was occupied she hoped they wouldn't shoot their own or would be confused enough by the sight for her to get close enough.

Odessa watches as her powers manifest and the warpflames shoot out from rift but instead of harming the Daemon it only seems to strengthen the rift as more arms emerge from the hole. She couldn't believe she had helped it in a failed way to stop it. One of the arms hit Ash that flies out of view from Odessa. All she can do is stare in fear as the Daemon laughs in such a horrible way that glasses break all around her. She feels hopeless, praying for all of this to be a terrible dream. It was all her fault and now her companions would die because of this Daemon. She pulled out her plasma pistol and started shooting at the Daemon's hand trying to overcome the fear that seemed to burn into her mind.

Ash pulls herself up from the remains of the display case, more slowly then it's usual for her. Faith and fire. Well, three of them down there don't lack the later, and there's more above. The first one, though...Ash doesn't expect much faith from the psykers, and it's more conditioning then the true faith in her case.

Putting her fear, doubt and pain aside until later, as she's trained to, Ash walks closer to the rift, points her weapon at the daemon reaching through while trying not to look into the Warp too much, and squeezes the trigger. A burst of electromagnetic radiation from the neural shredder would be deadly or at least permanently crippling for a human...or most xenos...point blank, but will it have any effect on a daemon? Do they even have nerve system?

Ash prepares her phase blade to cut the hand holding Odessa's leg regardless of the effect of her neural shredder. Her effort to avoid looking at the rift hinders her ability to watch other arms, Ash can only hope Alanis's shooting will keep them too busy to attack her again. If she won't find a way to help Odessa, Ash will have to grant her the Emperor's Mercy...death is surely better then whatever fate would awaits her in the daemon's hand. But there's still time before that decision.

The local populace looked scared. This was a good thing, in Faye's mind, brief flashes of her life before telling her that a fearful populace was one that would go along with whatever the cause of their fear told them to. On the other hand, if they were fearful of someone else more than of herself, that could cause problems. Her lobo-chip sent a pulse through her brain, and past thoughts were banished in favour of complete concentration of the here and now.

Apon arriving at the storehouse, she gave the main door a quick glance over, checking for possible weak spots such as hinges and locks, before raising her saw. "We should take cover in here" she said, glancing about themselves. "Out of the way, single enterance, plenty of food. Should be easy to fortify until the worst is over, and we can get back to our task". She was ready to simply cut the door open if the techpriest couldn't open It first

Alanis does her best to injure the demon but her bullets seem incredibly ineffective against the demons thick skin. Her arm is starting to go numb from the effort of keeping Odessa in this reality. For her part Odessa tried squeezing off a shot at the monster but she couldn't bear to even look at the thing and her shot incinerated an old banner preserved in a display case. Three more arms emerged from the portal, these clamped down on the stone as the Daemon began to raise itself out of the warp... only to be hit with a massive wave of radiation that made the immaterial creatures flesh bubble as if it were suddenly heated. It howled in agony and fell back into the pit before they got a look at its full form. Unfortunately one of the clawed arms elongated to over eight feet long and slashed a row of cuts strait through Ash's bodysuit drawing blood and exposing her midsection.

As Rosetta rested the rebel let out a grunt shifting himself up into a sitting position, leaning against the ceramite safety rails on the bridge. He had already had his mangled hand tucked away in his jacket but showed it to her when she went over to help. It was indeed badly burnt with multiple fractures and two missing digits. At least her suit had managed to cauterize the wound so he wouldn't bleed to death... at least not externally. She did what she could to get a makeshift sling together made from his coat sleeve. He nodded to her to exhausted to respond.

Over in the hab-block Faye prepared her arm to cut through the steel on the door when the tech priest put her hand on the metal limb. "Hold... I may be able to persuade the machine spirit." The Tech priest approached the door dialing a series of runes, a red sigil flashed and she continued attempting whatever strange ritual was at hand. In the meantime Faye looked around to see all eyes were on their group or rather the door behind them. She saw that most of the people looked half starved, the children seemed better off but their parents suffered doubly in exchange. It was unclear just how desperate they had become but it was probably a good thing the Tech priest was working on getting the door open without damaging the locking mechanism. Finally a successful chime rang out through the hall and the Tech priest stepped into the store room shutting it behind the group. Now that they were securely inside the room the tech priest looked to the two of them. "We have already lost one squad member and we did not arrive near any meaningful objectives... how would you suggest we proceed?"

It was becoming clear to Alanis that fighting this demon head on wasn't going to work too well in the end. They needed to get Oddessa out of there, and they needed to do it now! With all the strength she could muster, Alanis drops her weapon and attempts to pull Odessa out of the daemon's grasp. Should she succeed, she would activate her own powers and try to close the rift with a Dispelling Ray. I hope this works! Alanis thought to herself.

"On you feet," Rosette grumbled as she pulled herself up, "The Emperor's work is never done."

If he resisted she would drag him up, marching him in front of her with her the barrel of her bolter pressed into his back, concealing it from view and reminding him what would happen if he crossed her. Her eyes scanned the gate house for any movement as they walked, ready to use him as a shield if something went wrong.

Odessa felt the fear spread through her. She couldn't even look at the thing! She had never felt such raw fear before, not ever. Trying to get out of its grasp she started thrashing around. "Get off me! Please! Someone help me!" she called out, terrified that she would be dragged into the warp, imagining all the terrible things that would happen to her. She wished she wasn't here on this damn planet... she wanted to be away... Drawing her weapon again she starts shooting in the Daemon's direction, not looking but firing blindly, just to do something to feel less powerless. Thinking, she prays for her guardian angel for help. "Please, save me..." she thinks to herself.
