I'm trying to get into the habit of practicing with flash and drawing by hand. This is something i did a while ago, followed by my attempt to remake and modify it in flash. Any advice would be appreciated.

I presume that's MC Calamari? I like the warped nature of the setting, but even with a warped perspective you'll want to work on making your lines consistent. Notable issues are the right speaker, the bottom of the main platform, and the floor tile. In your original sketch, the perspective was better for the platform and the tile, so I'd recommend making sure that you're using your original sketch as a reference more than a guide; it's so easy to get lost in lines and shapes and lose the big picture.

I'd also suggest you familiarize yourself with a warp tool for changing the perspective on planes like your floor, as well as using a gradient tool for handling lighting in the scene.

I'm having a love hate relationship with the gradient tool right now. And flash has a warp tool?

Actually, I'm not too sure. If not, you can always make the texture in Photoshop and import it (pretty sure, don't be mad at me :O).

Followed your advice, Zeus, and here's what i got. I couldn't figure out is how to make the curtains look good with gradients, so I left them untouched. Also gonna figure out a proper floor pattern.

It's a significant improvement. The gradients make the shading less apparent, which in my opinion is a good thing. It's a rare case where cel-style shading is beneficial in a background layer.

I'm not sure how this would look, but I'm thinking that it might be interesting if you use your original style of shading in character models (or tentacles; basically living, moving things) and soft gradients for background objects. It might make your "actors" pop.

So Yeah...what exactly does everyone, or anyone, think of this new sketch as a game character (NSFW). I honestly would like to know any opinion on it (and Yes, it was done in paint) so please don't hold back either way.
