Walking along the meadows, Orpheus feels the beauty of all that is Nature surrounding him. He can feel his heart pounding with excitement, filled with love and desire to see the nymph that molded his dreams every night, Eurydice. One step and then two steps, following a trail of golden leaves, getting closer and closer to his love, the smell of oak filling the air, when a sudden noise catches Orpheus attention. A rampaging satyr comes running from the trees bashing his head against a rock. Orpheus cannot endure to see a creature under so much pain, and quickly settles a smoothing tune that travels through the forest. The satyr calmly returns into his former self, his legs giving away and falling on the grass. Silence fills the surrounding area, and not even the smallest noise is heard. Orpheus stops playing, the world around him as become strange, for when his tunes are heard, all around him dance in joy and even the trees and water move to his musical notes. But this was not the case, no dancing trees, no gentle birds coming down from their nests, no joy what so ever. It was as if the world had become too sad and depressed to be able to feel the happiness of Orpheus.
He stays still for some time waiting to hear something, anything that could take him out of that unnatural place, and that is when a smooth smell of blood rises in the air. Orpheus starts to run, the mortal silence, the smell of blood, all of this made sense now, something terrible had happened. It was not long until Orpheus' heart became broken and tears started falling from his eyes. There, in the forest leaves, was Eurydice, mortally wounded, next to a pit of snakes. With a broken heart, Orpheus then played the saddest song he ever played. So sad that even the forest nymphs and the Gods that where allured by his music started crying. When he finished playing, Orpheus lost all of his body strength. He had given up hope. No longer would he want to live in such a painful world. It was then that Apollo, god of light, father of Eurydice, amongst other Gods, told Orpheus that he could still save his loved one and granted him a passage to the underworld.
"Orpheus - said the Gods - We shall grant you this gift after you touched our hearts with your melody. We had forgotten that even as gods, we can still feel such pain. Go forth and retrieve the lost soul of Eurydice, but be warned: Once you reach the underworld, you will be in Hades domain, and you will be on your own. May our blessings be with you in hopes that Hades shall grant you your desire."
Orpheus strength was renewed, his hope brought back. He then braved into the underworld not looking back.
