I believe that's what "refining" means.

damn shame toough that i more or less ruined the first one XD musta been something with the paper itself making the colour look so... grainy.
Gotta try some basic sheet on a normal a4 n see what happens, or if its hopefully only on my sketch book that i usualy draw on.

Unnamed flash game

Postby Jumbo70 » Mon Apr 07, 2014 10:57 am

I'm grabbing myself by the neck and gonna start doing some real flash training. Gonna try and make a game, nothing fancy tough just something little to get the hang of it.

But first i gotta ask. is there any real difference between action script 2 and 3? Wich one should i use or is ac2 better for this and ac3 better for that?
I'l post a character later today im going to use in a game once i feel confident enough with my skillz in flash (her colours and shape may change)
img074e.jpg
The char, dont have a name for her yet, not even sure if she will look like that once i start making the game. Any suggestions?

I would go with Actionscript 2.0, as it is much easier to learn. A prime example is buttons, which are overly complicated to make in Actionscript 3.0, compared to 2.0. One could say that you might as well start off with the latest, but it doesn't really matter, because if you are going to start making games "for real", it would instead be better to learn to program for an engine that's also capable of 3D.

Thanks!

So what you mean is that instead of flash, i should go for unity or blender for example?
I am interested in the game bussines, tough more on the art side than the coding side .

Not precisely. What he's saying is this:

Actionscript 2 is easier to learn, but 3 will probably be better in the long term.

On the other hand, for the very long term, learning a big engine like Unreal or CryEngine would be better for your prospects as a professional game designer.

The heart of the matter is that you want to develop as a hobby. Katsu is saying that Actionscript 2 is easier and quicker than Actionscript 3, so if you want a hobby language, AS2 would be your best bet. If you want long term, serious programming AS3 is better, but on the other hand a 3D engine would be even stronger.

ok thanks for clearing up ^^
Oor be a douche and learn them all

Just a small question, i know Katsu has been medling with unity, ive managed so far to create a ball with some stripes.
so the question is can you make 2d models in the same way in unity as in flash?

i got a unreal engine 3 lying around somewhere i think, came with ut3 i belive, should i try medling with it?. I understand that "chronicles of alexstrasza" game has been made with the unreal engine and it looks pretty cool too.

Damn shame peepl dont really play ut3, damn good game

I freakin' loved UT3. My friend and I had LAN parties for that game, and it was super fun.

Maybe it's just a perspective issue, but the breasts seem a little mismatched in size. Other than that, it's a really great image. I really like the expressions you've drawn so far, but they all seem so similar. Maybe try different emotions?
Or not, like I said I like your work, and I'm no artist.

Zeus Kabob pretty much nailed my points.

You can't create models, or draw textures in Unity, but you can import images of different body parts from Photoshop that then can be animated in Unity, similarly how you would do it in Flash with tweens.

the breast mismatch i think i could solve with a single line but for the other thing you nailed what has been buggering me for a while now, you can see it very well if you go to my uploaded files in e621. All of them look the same, more or less. same head type, same hairstyle, the only thing changing is where the arms n legs are but otherwise it looks the same (except clothes).
I have to somehow make me more comfortable with other poses, "camera" angles and so on. On a positive note im starting to get the hang of colour combination and understanding more of the ways of how to shadow, tough still got little problems with shadowing coloured pictures.

ok, thanks for the info. going to see if i manage to create anything in either flash or unity now. ^^

I think i should also start to draw some males and other things.
Any suggestions?

One suggestion would be to go back to digital, not only will it look better (at least in my opinion), but you will also be able to use it in flash and such.
