Hey,
Quiz is back again!!!
Thats a miracle! I really miss your opinions and our talk. Really, you are aside of it for so long. I feel you're not active anymore. Where's my great scripter? Where is the changes you promised to do in the dialogues like goombas? It fells REALLY strange to see you back again saying this and that, but we are almost online every night. Why arent you so involved as before?
As I've said in other ocasions, I MISS good people here. You guys appear in the beginning with tons of good ideas, nice conversations then.....they disappear!
QuizmasterBos Wrote:Although I do agree that some new additions can look a bit dodgy, it's all still in an early version. To be honest, there's many things I'd like to see changed, added or removed but I am not in the position to make big changes to the game.
1.Actually, you can always give ideas, make pictures of situations that would need changes and WHY (remember that your squared stick and ball example was useful. We got a nice pirate mug by Digfree!). But I expect more good and detailed examples from you. And remember, if we have a scene 75% good, and I do realize a given idea (with graphical examples for me to base your thoughs on) is 86% good and people like it, there is NO reason for me to deny it. But yes, just saying 'there's many things I'd like to see changed' is so 'open', 'spread', I can't work with this because it's so general talk.
For now, I am still swimming, giving features to the game. Some people really appreciate that. Once with those features, its easier to fix / improve what would need. And some dont need improvement because it's really completed and I've exausted all my ideas (and yours/vintageBass ideas) on it.
2. Just to remember, no people complained so far except maybe 10 people so far (bug reports) and up to 5 people about features, out of more than 5,000 that visits here, sometimes everyday.
QuizmasterBos Wrote:I honestly would like it if Ivan discusses many elements with the team more
3. We have two social sites/messengers already. What happens is that a given person has to start that discussion, either by PM, by personal messages in skype, or here. If no one sets if off, each person will be awaiting the other one endlessly (a deadlock). And we have to BE SINCERE and realistic on the fact the team is not so evolved as before due to parallel work, videogames, etc. As always, I am the only 'live' person (sometimes zombie) during entire months, mostly in the night, working on MIM PUT. Most of it is bruteforce work, fixing bugs and recompiling it many many times, in order to have a more quality result.
QuizmasterBos Wrote:But since we're all doing stuff voluntarily we can't make any demands. Ivan listens to us somewhat, but I'm sure I am not the only one in the team who would like it if the lion's share of the decisions were made by a larger scale of people.
Please re-read item 2 and 3 above.
QuizmasterBos Wrote:Ivan's level of animation isn't as high as Blargh's or PlayShapes'.
It depends. I cant compare, you guys can, but I am confident I've made quite a progress. My animations are more optimized since I've trained a lot with the theory. I can make a full scene using like 20% of other animation's frames/keyframes while yielding the same result. I've seen many animator works and they dont tend to use tweens so much. Tweening gives more smoothness to the animation. I am using that feature more than Blargh. Again, I am not making comparisons directly in order to say 'I am better'. You people judge that. But for sure, I am proud and I like the way Blargh does his animations. I've started contributing with animations due to him. But he is absent too, making scenes in a slower pace my me. Sometimes I make 5 while he makes 1. I am not saying he MUST be active all the time. We have 'outside' work, our families, etc. But I want to work more on it! I am swimming!
The good thing of 'Ivan animating much more as ever' is that I can make like 1 scene per day. Even if not 100% perfect, it can be still decent enough, and we're increasing the situations Peach will be screwed up. People, more scenes will be always the preference of many people.
QuizmasterBos Wrote:The result is that those animations look a little less 'quality'.
You have to point me out where it can improve. And please read item 1 above again.
QuizmasterBos Wrote:Ivan has a very long list of things left to do
I do. And I've put here in the forum, I think 100 pages earlier. I have like 20 pages of a OpenOffice document, many already completed (lets say 100 features) but more than 200 still being worked.
And let's remember I am making all of this practically alone, like 90% of the time.
QuizmasterBos Wrote:Ivan's idea is throwing things in first and making them done later. Might not be the best philosphy, especially when you have public updates like this.
It works. Its the 'survival swimmer' theory. If you are swimming, keep on it. Dont look behind. Its like the 'Loh story in the bible'. I am a normal human being, so I also get out of focus sometimes. There are days I am ill, or sad, or stressed. So I think like this: THE TIME CAME -> DO IT. Its better to concretize/materialize whats inside your feature list ASAP than think , think, think, then do nothing. Thats how level 9-1 came out.
And I dont regret it. I love this level. One of my plans still is to make more areas Peach will get in trouble. And some scenes got 'spurted out' in a cute way, like the wiggler sit scene, where Peach tries to get out, but she ends up even more screwed up.
QuizmasterBos Wrote:(Script to toads in order for Peach to say how the yoshi dick affected her) I don't think we'll be in need of script for this.
I still think its a nice touch. A full dialogue with like 20 messageboxes dont bring file sizes that high. It can increase for up to 400bytes or even less.
QuizmasterBos Wrote:And I don't believe Yoshi is obligatory, you CAN use him but you don't HAVE to. I think there may be an available secret somewhere with him, but I am not sure about that.
Ok this idea can happen. I can make a way for Peach to trespass obstacles by jumping over blocks, etc.
So just to remember all I've said above: we need to communicate more. Like the old times. Be it here, on PM, and messengers. I work a lot, I need some peaceful communication too, like ('hey Ivan, how are you man? As you are seeing, I am a bit busy and using the forum less, sorry, man'. Wants an even better game? Participate more!! I can still work and complete this game without many feedbacks, but the more, the better. A good discussion featuring many people, not only me and you, or me and Calpico, for example.
