People have been wondering about this thread for a while, and I am unfortunately unable get this RP off the ground, due to a variety of reasons, mainly personal. I do hope to bring this back one day, but for now, I'd like to bury this thread.
Hello, everyone. I'm Nobudi, a fairly new person to this forum. Pleased to meet all of you.
Now, this is just a random idea that spawned in my head, and it's not too fleshed out at the moment, so please bear with me.
The rp takes place in the modern day, and I'd like some input on where it should be exactly. I'm currently debating between NYC, San Fran, and New Orleans. Personally, I like S.F. Nice place. There will be magic, and science.
Now, all I have time to post right now is a small introduction that would serve as an interest gatherer.
Thanks, and please, feel free to comment.

Character SheetSpoiler (click to show/hide):
I've decided to be a little complicated, and drew some inspiration from one of my RP books, Shadowrun, and use the stats from that.

Skaia Systems Inc.Spoiler (click to show/hide):
So far, in your research, you can definitely tell that S.S.I. is a completely legitimate company operating from a headquarters not too far from where you live. The company was founded a while after WWII, just before the Cold War began. The company is run by a board of 7 members, who's identities are completely unknown by the public. Since it's creation, there has not been one single product that has been released to the Public, and Resonance itself was never announced to the public either. How odd is that?
All of it's current works seem to be in contract with the U.S. Department of Defense. As for it's lack of production, it is executing transactions with almost every major corporation in the World. Could these guys be Illuminati?
After more and more research you discover more and more interesting things that you didn't know before hand. One of them, namely, was the fact that Skaia Systems' Headquarters was located near the heart of the city, on an artificial island that you and your friends always figured to be an old or abandoned military base.
Looking down from Google maps, you can clearly see the shape of the headquarters: a heptagonal island in the middle of the estuary. Why a heptagon though? MechanicsSpoiler (click to show/hide):
Tasks
So, when performing complex tasks, such as hacking a network, or building a ritual circle, you use 2 or more of your stats, which will be explained shortly.
When using the stats, the combined number will represent how many rolls of a D6 you will be allowed. For example, if a task requires Strength and Motor Control, and you have 3 in strength, and 4 in motor control, than (3)+(4)=(7)D6 rolls.
Now, you are not attempting to add up your numbers, you will be counting any rolls of 5-6, which are considered passes, 1-4 are considered fails. The more hits you obtain, the better the odds of the task fall to your favor.
However, you must pass what's called a threshold, which is the minimum hits required to complete a task.
Thresholds
The difficulty and the threshold are located below:
Difficulty- Threshold
Easy- 1
Average- 2
Hard- 3
Extreme- 5+
To put these in perspective, if a player is required to build a magic circle, and use Motor Control(3) and Intelligence(5), and the difficulty is Hard, then they will roll a D6 8 times.
Here's an example simulation:
(1),(3),(6),(6),(5),(3),(5),(3)
Now, since the difficulty was Hard, and 4>3, they would pass this task.
Stats
Now, as for stats themselves, here is a breakdown on the Stats and what they represent.
- Strength: Your general strength, as well as coordination for applying said strength.
- Body: Your general health, as well as how limber your body is. Health uses formula (Body)*3+1 for measuring HP.
- Motor Control: Your dexterity and precision on completing a task.
- Charisma: A measure of how you give first impressions to others, as well as your ability to socialize.
- Intelligence: Quite self- explanatory, how smart you are, as well as your ability to memorize and recall memories.
- Will: Your determination to transcend pain and suffering to see through a task to the end.
- Luck: Luck is quite unique, as it can be used in a pinch. If you don't pass a task naturally, you can contact the GM into burning your luck for an equal amount of dice to use in this task.
- Magic Aptitude: A measure of magic- related topics that you can use with mental and physical stats.
- Tech Aptitude: Identical to magic aptitude, but with scientific topics.
