Krystal comic

Postby Lazycat » Wed Feb 17, 2010 8:29 pm

Hallo everybody. I am a freelance comic artist, and I came across this awesome game called Legend of Krystal, and I have just fallen in love with its perverted game play. But what I think is great is that its have become a project for those who like to share ideas, and therefore I would like to share my ideas. But I am not a flash artist, so I can not make any flash movies. But I am a comic artist, and therefore I was thinking of making a few Legend of Krystal comics for the site.
I have made a few Sketches of Krystal to give a idea of how I will draw her, so if there is anyone who like the idea, then I will draw more images of Krystal.

Hm...promises to get interesting. I'm not a mod, though, so I cannot give you any permission.

Hey, I'm Kalypso, the character designer ^^
I'm glad you've given thought into making a LoK comic. I'm not able to confirm your abilities to make an LoK comic based on this game--as that's more Renara's field, he's the leader and in charge of the project. However, I can issue a couple pointers about your Krystal.
I'm sorry for what you are about to hear, as it is in fact a critique, so please--don't take it personally.
-Make those retinas a pinch bigger, and the pupils a bit larger--give her an innocent look.
-Round off that chin!
-Bring her nose and mouth a bit down, her nose is too short, it needs to go down a bit more.
-Make her nipples a bit rounder, they're too oval-shaped.
-Give her a rounded forehead, instead of a flat one on the 1/2-views.
-Skinny her belly out a bit, as well as the width of her body, she's too average weight--she needs to be just a tiny bit skinnier.
-The hips are perpetuated a bit too realistically for those perspectives, and they through the proportions off a lot. Try making them more hourglass figure.
-The butt becomes too flat as you progress to the back view, try making it bump like it does in the front view.
-The legs are too thick, make them a bit skinnier and a little more firm.
I still think its great that you want to do this, so don't take my critique as if I'm some critical-ass, picky, heartless, art bastard--I'm just trying to extenuate the look of Krystal to her actual, ideal form.
Good work so far ^^

i pretty much agree with what kal says and i apologize for nothing as it is a critique.

my advise would be the same advice i've been given, practice, practice, practice. Draw from observation whenever you get the chance, try to find models (friends professional models whoever) that feel about simular to krystal's proportions. it seems like you are starting to understand things in the 3/4's view on the upper half of the body, but it all goes to shit on the lower half as being chunky as the others said.

I'm all for a krystal comic once you've refined her style, however we arn't going to be making much progress in the game story for some time, although we arn't planning on changing what playshapes already did so you do have the start of a script to work with, so you could always do some 'side stories' or 'filler' if you want the comic to be consistant with the game's story/plot.

Agian this is Ren's call, i think he'll support the idea of a comic, just like we said though, refine your proportions.

*smaks kal in the back of the head* your not the character designer Vixen is along with sindoll.you only vector.joking. kal does a wonderful job on developing the characters into game needed material.
okay all jokes aside. i do like the idea of your comic an let me first get rid of the nasty of critiquing.

-sideview- dont like
the chin isnt feminine
her nose ridge is too sharp
i like your overall style and i never try to critique the body shape since that is purely preference and i think that if you would draw it we would love to see it.

If you wanna do comics then do comics! Legend of Krystal isn't exactly going to have canon material as such, so it's up to you if you want to do your own little story arcs, for look for ideas from other members.

We could look at hosting the comic strips; the site isn't really geared for content posting at the moment, that'll come soon™ as part of my ongoing project to revamp all my sites and streamline my web-design work, but there's no ETA on that either as it's not one of my current paid projects. But ehm...yeah, I could probably hack together a space for displaying comic previews and a simple browser for a strip.

While we don't have much to show yet, fan work and similar stuff is plenty welcome I think, the fact we've generated such enthusiasm already is a huge encouragement!

true body size is a personal preference for artists, however he's also going to be trying to appeal to a sertain group of people's interests as well not just his own. That and honestly it looks like he's not quite there yet with the art, he's still in the refinement stages it looks like to me.

I like to say thank you for the comments that have been given, and I understand that my drawings is not flawless, but that only makes way for improvement. The advise and directions that you are giving is very helpful, and I also like to say thank you to Kalypso for the vary detailed description of how to improve the drawings of Krystal. I know that the whole comic idea will newer be a part of the game itself, but I do it for fun, and to improve myself.

Thats a great attitude, Lazycat!

Overall, I really dig your efforts so far. My only gripe is with the girth of her legs, though I like lean girls myself. I guess its a personal preference. :)

Keep it up!!!

I think with the legs the main problem is just the lower leg; the thigh doesn't seem to get smaller as it reaches the knee. IMO it's not a big deal, something to work on as time goes on, if you look at most comics they start quite rough till the art style is really established.

well it's an improvement for sure, looks like you took care of most the leg issues i had. try working on her hands next, i realize how small that they are when compared to drawing the rest of the body, but they look very stiff. Dunno what the others will have to say.

I think the side-view of her muzzle is also off. I think she might actually have a shorter/stubby muzzle design, but you've done something more like extending the normal human face out to the end of that point.

See how natural the body figure looks in my sketch, its streamline and fits well nicely take what you see in consideration and apply it to yours.

this is currently an issue i have to work with as well in my own drawing class. working to make the body of characters feel real and beleivable, while still applying a certain level of stylization, it's all about finding that balance, my advice would be to get a narual feeling body first, work form a model if you can, and then stylize everything.

If you decide to flash the green light on this comic, I wish you good luck. You definitely have potential.
