I'm glad Marli's concept is good with both of you. Good edit on Miles, I usually think of foxes as a bit thinner and sharper looking than, say, wolves but in second look he was a little too exaggerated and his punky hair do was as well. It definitely makes him more normal and appealing. When all the sketches are done its be good to have another set of eyes check them over before we go to vector.

So, I mean, Miles is a bartender, obviously. And Marli's... what, a pop star? Possibly slutty? Slutty poodle pop stars. Makes a disturbing amount of sense. Personally I think I still prefer punk rat beach bums, but once again I marvel at the variety. It sort of scares me that with this much, though, you guys might burn yourselves out, and I'd hate to see that. How - how big a risk is that?

I obviously can't speak for everyone, but the scope of the project is pretty huge, and personally I'd be willing to work on it for quite a long time, and to be honest if we fully developed every idea on the wish list it would be in neighborhood of a year or more to develop. That being said, it will most likely be an addative process where we impliment core features and characters and build it up. Being super new to the project, you'd have to hear from Katsu about it as he has the best idea how long some of this will take.

goat's right, Katsu is the supervisor and ultimate decision maker in this project so he'd be best ask about that. From my point of view I also agree - it is a huge project and there certainly more ideas than we could implement in it. I'd guess that it'll take quite a lot of time up to when there is something playable for you guys to check out and even then it'll most likely miss some features. Like goaty said, we may add one thing at a time.

There is always the risk of there being too much work needed for us to handle, what helps in this case is planning and testing. As well as dropping ideas that we want, but just doesn't work. One example being the 3D island, it just took so much time that I had to change the plans. Probably my most foolish idea, but then I could come up with new ideas that is more possible and even better. I may wasted my time, but I learned something out of it.

May be i am a Captain Obvious again  - as i am always   - but what i can say to you:

What is game:

Algoritms (movie algoritms / calculations / simple games in game algoritms / server based algoritms / drawing algoritms).
Art (Animation/BackGrounds/Charecter/design/menu design).
And game play (Story / Ingame dialogs and idea).
Music (Music and sound effects).

No one can do all of this alone. (Exept may be Gorepete   - he make a really big work :? it is really amazing :P )

Just for example - you need to take sound and music some where. All sounds from some where. Okay may be you have some source where you can take it good.

Art and animation. There are a lot of 3d arts - but all of them looks the same and are using everywhere. For example 3d arts of Krystal - it is as i understand and very interesting. But to make some thing like this is really hard and takes time. So you need to find a different sources of where you can take nt common animations / arts and etc - it will take a lot of time. More will take only to make it yourself

Story - for example you create a story but you can not find a charecter that you use in it - what will you do then ? Change dialogs / and game idea or draw this charecter ? So better you already have to collect all content you need before you will do story or you have to be ready to make any of this yourself - for 3d it is really hard work.

Algoritms - for 3d you will ned or use not relly 3d just like movie from program that create it. Or use some 3d algoritms - but where and what to use ? May be even use another source for it. But if so where to take progrsammists for that ? Or may be to take already ready codes from another games and just change animations there ? To make 3d algoritms by yourself from zero is not a hard problem. It is OMFG !!! It is much more bigger and harder ! I work a little with 3d animations and graphics in the institute - and i can say it is not even a little ass ache - it is like hole in head that is more than head itself - it is realy painful thing that takes a lot of time. Thats why you always here - that company use algoritms from bla bla bla game. Yes becouse they can not make there own ! Ant that people to they take another games and a little change it. And its process is going for a long time i think. So to make it by a small group is bad idea.

--- --- ---

Now lets think why 3d is good ? All old games was 2d - and they were interesting to play. All 3 d gives us is - you have story line buuut - you can go in another direction. You can for example look on the garbage in a lot of angles - or look on amazing tree. Woooow 3 d tree - i can see it in real life every day. You get no action at all. By the way you newer use all the directions of 3 d in games. You only use the best - so what for to draw other ?

So 2d is good. Really good as i think. The only one reason when 3d is good that you can look on your charecter in difrent angles - some times it is really interesting. But if she do nothing it will not be interesting long - and it more simple to make it 2d and make just more good designed views of your charecter.

By the way 3d eats more memory space. And it is really good if you want the game be harder to download

Even some games that were 2d and were remade to be 3d do not become better - they do not. Just a lot of people do not see the original of them - so do I. I sai wow what a cool game but then when i play original i say wtf what the shit was the 3d version. Yes a lot of old 2 d games were interesting but they have bad graphics and animation becouse of low powered machines of that time - but it is not a reason to try to make them 3d.

The life is 3d - and it is full of boring moments shit !  I mean some times =))) Yes it is 3d but it do not make it more interesting at all - only interesting actions are. So do in games too i think.

It is only my opinion may be i am even not right - but i think so ;)

By the way 3d island on flash will be just a movie am i write - if so and if you want it to look like 3d may be it is possible to use some kind of 2d stuff - for example Movie like avi from some where to make world look like 3d. And for example just add some elements you need to it on flash ? If think so - all 3 d is 2d - with just some new angles added ? What of them are the best ? Put them in game and it will be perfect - and will not be boring while player will find them by himself

@Red.Sheer
I am going to design 4 more characters and shoot them your way later. Feel free to modify them however you want, one of them is the infamous character I worked on before, so hopefully getting it written down while show what I wanted with the character.

Re: The Sim Project

Postby FMC » Sun Mar 17, 2013 6:31 pm

By the way, I have a question.

What about clothing? Is there just going to be 'normal clothing' (Even Maril, though her clothing is bright and over-the-top, isn't exactly... foreign clothing), or will things like Schoolgirl, Teacher, Miko, etc, be put in there as well?

And... even if this isn't a GOR of any stretch of the imagination, I'm still a fan of ripped clothes, but still hanging onto the body. Weird, I know, but I wanted to know if there was going to be clothed sex, ripped clothes sex, etc, or if the sex was just going to be 'naked sex.'

Oh, and thinking of that, what fetishes, if any, did you guys plan on putting in the game? (Mainly, I'm just worried about bondage. xD)

@FMC I'm maybe not the best one to answer this but I think it safe to say that additional costumes would be solidly in 'wish list' territory. If we get everything else done it would be a nice addition, but I think we are still focused on limiting the scope of the project to include just the core gameplay at the moment. As time goes on we can assess new options and fun additions. But I do like the idea of torn clothes and there will certainly be sections of the game devoted to undressing.

As to fetishes I'm sure we will try to address a wide range and each character has their own likes/dislikes, so if you're not into bondage etc you should just avoid the characters that like that sort of thing (hint hint, you might want to stay in the friend zone with Spike unless you like handcuffs... Lol) But the focus of this game is more on character development and romance with sex being a secondary element (even though the sexual content will be some of the more challenging to create)

... On you or on her? (Psh, like it's gonna dissuade me either way.) But more importantly!

goat Wrote:But the focus of this game is more on character development and romance with sex being a secondary element

Seems likely this is going to disappoint some people out there. You know those people. So I thought I should jump in and stress that this is one of the many (many, many) reasons I'm so hooked on this project. Sex drew me to the LoK board to begin with, so who'd've thought love and character would be the point that made me so eager to keep coming back, just in case there's new news?

Which has had me thinking. I don't... want to be just a leech here. (Which is not something I normally have a problem with, so feel honored.) So I, well, thought I'd toss an offer over. My one talent that could be used for the game (besides playing games) would be writing, I like to think I have some skill. And I guess you're not really at the point that it's really needed yet, but still. I'm not saying 'Oh I wanna be your head writer and get all the rave reviews' or some such, but I thought maybe I'd at least be able to relieve some of the burden if/when it reaches that part, as a secondary/backup writer, y'know? I've got a short character piece or two filed away on my computer I could use as a quick audition, if necessary. Again, pretty early, so if you just want to sweep this offer away for now, I completely understand. Or if it's just a flat no, s'fine too. Just wanted to put the offer out there.

Ok here's this weekend's art dump. I made sure I included some avians for our #1 stalker/possible co-writer ;) Inti the ostrich was a tough one, so any comments would be welcome if he's not looking right. I'm working on backgrounds, and some vector stuff, so there will be a break from the characters for a few days, but there's only a few left and you'll have met the whole cast!

I'm no art critic, but once again stunned by your art and imagination of the characters goat, nice work :D

I know Inti is a challenge. Although your version certainly looks great it's not exactly fitting. He looks too young, honestly :D Avians are really hard to do in that regard. I really like the "beard" feathers below his beak, maybe those could be a bit more prominent. The overall tone could be a bit darker so it has a bigger contrast to the colorful gowns and I'd imagined his neck having some tatoos and/or a collar. I'm sending something to you via PM ^^

But again, great work. The owl is a sweetie, Jess looks great and Liz is perfect, it really fits the style. I like that playful expression *gg*

I forgot about the tattoos, d'oh! I looked at more pictures of ostriches and they don't all have the down up their necks, so I did a marker sketch of him with more skin exposed and older. He still has some if the down but just as eye brows and beard. I can go back to the smaller beard/ chin mustache if he looks too old.

I think this is closer to what you had in mind, I was so focused on just trying to make his body work I forgot about his personality :P and sorry about the quality, it's camera phone pic ^_^

I didn't even sent you stuff, yet you knew what I was going to show you  This way he looks closer to what I had imagined. Wether it looks too old has to be deided once there's more of him.
