So I was reading through this thread and I like the dating sim idea. I also like some of the job mini games, the book one is really fun and challenging, it might be nice to add a feature where you don't just loose when the time runs out but you get $ based on how many you stock. It could also be really fun to be able to romance the librarian, or the pizza shop owner (the driving game could be a pizza delivery job) or any employer as well as people in a club or bar. Sort of like how the Harvest Moon games have many love interests you can meet in many different places. It doesn't have to be super complex. you have a map with several locations and when you click on it, it takes you to a page with a character you can interact with, get jobs, flirt or what ever, and once your relationship points are high enough you can go on a generic date mini game (which could be just a scene with the character at a table with dialoge options) then depending on how many point you got in the date, you could ask them back to your place, where you could have several make-out/sexual games.

I did a pretty crude animation in photoshop of a scene like this at a night club. The art was made in Illustrator and can be imported into flash if someone want to try to animate it better. I can do all the animation key frames, i just don't know anything about action scripts or making the game part.

I got to say that the art is stylized and simple, which fits the style that I'm looking for well.

Most of the things you mention, is pretty much how it is going to work. However, a few things is supposed to be a bit deeper than you pictured it, at least from my impression. I wish I could think of a good example, but one thing that makes it deeper is that the game wont tell you straight out what relation you have between a character. As you interact with characters you will have to figure out what they think. There can be other characters that can change the relationship between you and another character. So it would not only be about raising points through out dialog and gifts.

Another example is that it is not going to be like so it is not like many other sim games that I have seen, where you have hp that you can spend and you need to sleep when you don't have any hp left. There will be a time mechanic, where whatever you do takes a certain amount of time. There is day and night, and there is things that you only can do at certain times or even days.

Apart from that and maybe a few other things, it is going to work pretty much like you pictured it. We might have to cut back on a few ideas that makes it too complex, but at the moment, I believe that we can do it.

Our writer, Red.Sheer, is busy at the moment. We can discuss the characters, their looks and more once she is back.

cool, i tried do do a style that i could do fast as there seems to be a lot of art needs on this project. Back grounds are super fast and easy too, so if you have thing you want me to start on other than characters just let me know. I'm in between projects right now so i have a lot of time, but that may change at anytime, but this seems like a cool project that i can drop some hours into when i have the time. I also have done a bit of copy writing for games, so if Red.Sheer needs any extra dialog or anything I'd be happy to help.

I'll post the .ai file and the flash import so you can play around with it if you want. I'll also post up my crappy rough pencils so you can see some of the facial expressions i was planning on.

Baaa there, goat ^^ Glad you like the concept. I like your nick :D And the art you've shown so far :)

Though I'm occupied atm in my rl, please feel free to discuss everything. If you have questions pass me a PM, I'm still around checking things on a regular basis. There are already rough outlines of all the characters you can take a look at, Katsu should have those. If not, again, feel free to poke me about it.

EDIT: You posting was just added, it seems. I'd be happy if you want to help with the dialogue, sure ^^

baaa to you too :D I'm really looking forward to illustrating some of your characters and if you have any feedback on the style or want me change anything as i go I'm really easy going about that stuff, just shoot me a PM.

If you have any rough outlines or basic descriptions I'd love to get started on them but I know how life can get (i usually have a pretty packed schedule too) so no pressure, there's plenty of background stuff to work on, I was even thinking about doing some books for the library mini game.

Great to meet you ^_^

btw: i was reading some earlier posts and you were talking about a deer character and I just couldn't resist a quick photoshop sketch :) I figure it IS an island, there's gotta be great beaches!

maybe next I'll do a sheep ^_^

lol, i haven't posted enough to be able to PM but i got yours! Glad you like her ;) and I love the characters, great descriptions too! I'll spend some time making sketches and if the details look right to you, we can figure out what scenes they need to go in.

Certain types of animations, like any sexual minigames, it might be good to have a standardized body that is the same for all with just tweaks to the fur patten/color and maybe different sized body parts :) I can do a generic male and generic female torso and legs with separate breast/penis so they can be changed independently. but first things first, lets the designs finalized!

And as for pay, how about a great furry dating sim :D

Aww, right, you need 10 postings to send a PM  But the important part is that you got it and two postings shouldn't be such a big matter *gg*

Regarding the sex animations, that's something to be discussed with katsu, although we have some special scenes for the characters in mind which are unique. I don't know how generic it'll get, but as you said first things first. Actually, and ironically, the sex is something which should be talked about when the rest of the game works ^^

Eeheehee! After two months, the topic lives again, and in a truly wonderful way! Hello Goat, you do wonderful arts! Now I'm excited all over again. So you're forbidden from disappointing me, yeah? Or else! And as an otherwise-unaffiliated would-be-stalker of the project, you know just how genuine that threat is! :x

Postby KaTsuO_O » Mon Mar 11, 2013 4:28 pm

I'm not sure how that could have been a quick sketch... Well, you got to know how to make art quick and nicely, without many mistakes. Something I can't say about myself... I may be saying this a bit too early, but, thank you, you have saved this project. Normally I would wait a bit and see if things really starts rolling, but I'm already getting confident in your abilities. Especially since the art that you make, is exactly what this project needs. I would love to see that deer as a character in the game, and that is a good sign for me. Welcome aboard, It will be an honor to work with you.

"And as for pay, how about a great furry dating sim", that's a great mentality right there. This project is only going to be made because we want it to be made, not because money made us do it.

When it comes to sex, the idea was to have the view from your own characters perspective. That was a decision I made so it would feel more like you are the character, but also so that there would be less art to do. It would work just like you explain it, that there is the same body for all the characters. A couple of body parts would need different designs, like the head, breasts, penis, tail and feet. But other than that, it would just be color and pattern differences.

However, I'm kind of feeling that it would be good to have a few more angles to work with, rather than just point of view. One example is when your character is giving oral to a male, it would be odd having the view move so much and you wouldn't see much of what is really going on. In that case it would be better to have the view from another angle. There's even poses where you wouldn't be able see much. So my question is, should we have different angles which requires more art, or should we stick with point of view which doesn't require as much art. It's really up to you, goat.

As Red.Sheer pointed out, the focus at the moment is to get the actual game working, but while were at it we might as well discuss a few things.

I remember early in the Breeding Season thread you showing some of your animation chops. I gotta admit, i'm looking forward to seeing you in action. Well that and i'm a total slut or Digimon so even if i didn't already have the impression you're a smart and capable animator i'd be looking forward to it because of your avatar.

Well, my vote on this is that we absolutely need some external views, since there have always been things I just can't imagine in a PoV manner without it looking kind of funny. Since I'm not all that into the "humping" department with a few exceptions, I for example find it very hot to have some oral-recieving parts in PoV, on the active part however there's not that much to see besides a lovely closeup which would get boring, though. And If you choose to please a male orally PoV - might get a bit dizzy, don't you think? XD And what happens if you are recieving doggy? Face a wall/floor the whole time? XD

Also, I thought that the characters should have a special scene, unique to them which should be wittnessed in full glory, maybe also as PoV (switchable?). There are at least one or two things I'd absolutely love to have in there this way :)

I'm afraid we all get a bit overexcited, now we have an artist XD

I'm sadly aware that my comment is going to be as useful as an icecube in Antarctica when it comes to the actual topic at hand. :?

But given red[.hind]'s nickname and her old avatar I can't help myself but picture the sketch from goat (or a part of it) as her new avatar. (Though I really like the lol-sheep.) ;)

And to at least offer up some flimsy excuse for not only derailing the thread with off-topic banter:

I'm more than impressed with your artwork goat. Like Katsu i'm a bit startled that you refer to the picture as a "quick sketch".

Thanks everyone for the kind words ^_^ I'm just happy to have an outlet for some furry art, I used to draw erotic furry comix when i was a little kid (and boy did they suck!)and I've always wanted to get back to it, but you know real life and all... I've always been a better collaborator than a lone goat, and finding some really talented folks to bounce creative ideas off of is just what I need to recharge my creative batteries.

I'm certainly no animator and Katsu, your work speaks for itself, i can wait to see what you do with the raw art! btw, did you try to mess around with the flash file i uploaded? It was an import from illustrator (which I'm super comfortable and fast with) but flash is a whole new program for me and I'm fumbling around in it like drunk baby... so if i could use illustrator the whole process will go much faster (and faster means more art!) i looks like grouped objects in illustrator import into flash as their own symbols, so i can put the elements together in groups and you can break it apart in flash (clipping masks might not work though, so i can work around that of need be)

And Red.Sheer what a pleasure! Your characters are all really interesting and they feel like real people, not just 'sex bomb' cliches. Not to get all personal but Spike and Bruce both remind me of friends of mine from high school (scary actually how similar they are) who had a big impact on my life when i get PM privileges maybe I'll bore you with the story sometime. Bottom line, every character of your i draw i start to fall in love with them which is exactly what we need in a dating sim, I think we're really going to make a great, memorable game, I feel really honored that you've let me be a part of it.

As for the sex animations, I agree with Red.Sheer that some third person-ish views are needed for some situations and personally when i make an avatar in a game I like to be able to see him or her at some point. here we can maybe save sometime with a basic body style for any given 'race' and just change hair/skin/tattoo/piercings or whatever. For a goat I can be a bit of a work horse, but lets still try to manage the size of the art requirements as this could get out of hand fast!

I did some sketching today, so I figure i should share some of the designs, let me know if they don't look right or need some changes and I can address them when i go to make the game art. I'm sure there will be lots of tweaks to the crocodile and the sheep (both awesome characters!) so I'll do them sooner than later so we have time to really get them right.

Oh
My
/takei

Are those - actual characters? Really? Eeeeee. I didn't have any basis for faith in Red, honestly, hadn't seen any of her characters, but I just knew it wasn't misplaced, and now I have all the proof I could ever possibly need! And the art, oh wow that just takes it and makes it better. Seriously, my (already-phenomenally-high) interest in this game just skyrocketed (again). You guys have got to quit doing that to me, I think I can touch Jupiter at this point.

But really! Wow! I already know for sure Spike's gonna be getting some of my attention, oh yes. Never realized punk rats were my thing, but there you have it. My heterosexuality makes Bruce a bit harder to say for sure with anything though. Well we'll see, I'm sure I'll do at least one playthrough where he'll be something of a possibility (maybe as a female player-character?). But either way, I love that design, seriously! And... Siamese... twins. ... If you please. Goodness. ... gonna have that song stuck in my head for hours now.

... Hm, feels like there was a question I wanted to work in now, but it's completely slipped my mind in the middle of my fanboy raving. If it comes back to mind, I'll drop it then, but until such a time, I'll be over here being giddy, thanks.

"i can wait to see what you do with the raw art!" I thought you are supposed to say, "I can't wait"... I'm glad you can wait though... Just kidding, I get what you mean.

I picked up the flash you left, but I didn't really play around with it too much. Wasn't really sure what I would do with it either. The parts is actually not symbols, but groups. There was a few symbols, but only a few small things, which is a bit unfortunate because I don't see a reason to use groups in Flash. There was no layers either, if you didn't make any then that is most likely why. If you did however, then that is also a bit unfortunate because you need layers to be able to animate. It might be a bit tricky getting things together in an optimal way, since you work with art a bit differently in both programs. We'll just have to experiment with it a bit. I'll also try to explain how you have to separate body parts when we're doing that.

It is great to see that you like Red.Sheer's characters, mainly because then you will put more care in to the design, compared to if you wouldn't really care for them. It may be a bit hard to tell, but I don't really see anything that goes against that so far. You can easily see that there is personality put in to the characters, and what they're wearing. It really tells us something about them, and being able to do that is not always the easiest thing I feel.

I'm still impressed with the art, even more so now. There is a few things that I may not like that much, such as how Spike's muzzle looks. However, looking at it, it just fits with the rest of the style. If there is things that stands out more then I will make sure to let you know, but so far, I like it.

When it comes to Ying and Yang, I think they could use something extra, such as a collar, a wristband, something on the tail.

When I see the art to the left of Spike, I'm just thinking that that would be awesome for storytelling. She is for example talking about what she have been through and an image pops up in your mind. It is appropriate to have the style change as well, since you shouldn't be able to see it like it really looked.

I'm glad you had a chance to open the flash, I didn't want you do anything with it, per say, I just want to see if it was usable and it seems that it's not really. I usual work for print so I almost never use layers in illustrator but I certainly can. I'll have to play around importing different set ups, but if layers come in as symbols then i could just separate all the various parts on their own layers. As I said in my last post I'm still learning how to navigate flash so any tips you have would be most welcome.

I agree that Ying/Yang are a little plain, I did a quick sketch with a bell collar (like the Chinese luck cats) which should give them a little more interest and draw the eye to the face. I also a did a little change to Spikes muzzle...still not quite right. Did you feel she wasn't cute enough. or the muzzle was too angular?

I did a few more characters including Dillo (Red tells me he's one of you favorites) so let me know if he look like what you had in mind, crocs have very short limbs and long bodies which can make them pretty funny looking when then stand up (like the crocs that dance with the elephants in Fantasia) but I though that rout wouldn't be very sexy, so he's a little more human proportions.

I also did Linn in an example of a possible home environment for her. I figured because she is a botanist she'd have a greenhouse (and because she's a sheep, she'd grow clover and strawberries and all the stuff they like to munch on ^_^ ) So, Red, if you have any comments on your sweetie pie, just let me know (and if you find your lol sheep you win the prize!)

anyway I'll try not to make this post too long...uh..too late :/ so just enjoy more sketches!
