With life getting back to normal after the Holidays, working is resuming on Harem. Just made a fairly lengthy blog post about an idea for a Harem 'Store' with essentially DLC. Take a read through, please let me know what you think. It's a bit too lengthy for me to repost everywhere, so just click on the link at the bottom of this post if you want to see it. Also added a few spoiler images, so figured I'd post them here as well.

The game itself is free and I have no plans to ever charge for it. I've had a few people express desire to donate and the practicality of taking that is actually annoying difficult for someone writing adult games. But if I'm selling something it's easier, regardless of how little value it actually has.

The entire commissioned/non-canon scene is mostly me understanding that I really don't understand what people would do. So figure put out a high goal just to see if there's anyone that wants to hit it.

But I'm not expecting everyone (or necessarily even anyone) to donate. But it's been a fun concept for me to play with (and far less frustrating then trying to work with pay-per-download sites)

That is actually exactly what he meant. He had been using services that payed him a small amount every time the file was downloaded, but it seems that he can't actually get the money from them.

As for the setup, it does seem kind of steep on the prices. I think it would probably be better to do something simple like giving stuff to people based on price ranges for donations. I like the 100% CG, CG packs, and unencrypted download ideas, but it would probably be better to do price ranges rather than flat rates.
As far as commissioned stuff goes, I honestly don't think that is a good idea. The reason I say this is that most games that I have seen the author do this have gotten off track and the actual progression of the story seems to be going nowhere anymore.

As I totally forgot, I'd like to chip in to tell you I really enjoyed the 'christmas gift' on your blog.
I also just noticed that my browsers auto-correction doesn't know the word "blog".
As for said blog I just read, I'd definitely pay for a CG unlock, if only because that's the only way to donate anything.
However, given I only pay online with PayPal, that might end up being pretty hard for me.
I'm from Germany, and Credit Cards aren't actually all that common here.
We use direct wire Transfer.
However, I'd like to request those scenes, if possible, to be split into a light and dark path, and somehow visible whether I already unlocked them or not.
I really don't want to spoil anything for me, most of the time, but there's one or two scenes I just found annoying to get, like playing the entire game a third and fourth time just to get that last train scene.

As for the monetary, maybe you could set a base price, and allow people to set it higher?
For deleted scenes, accessing the pictures in game would be a nice quirk, and having scenes that more or less play entirely away from the main plot, but still somehow 'fit' I could get behind, but things that go contrary to the plot line would probably ruin the immersion for me, of which there is plenty.
Unless you add personal commentary to it, as in, what was it supposed to be, why did you decide against it... a 'development diary' of sorts.^^

Cool, I'm glad you enjoyed the Aslave stuff. Really is what got me into writing games. I'd love to be able to revisit the Yuna story (Harem essentially is 7 days) but only have the time to be working however slowly on one game at a time. Maybe in the future.

Heh, Paypal and I aren't on speaking terms atm. For now, don't worry about it. For the CG mode, it'd be difficult to split them, but I could label each one either light or dark. Been thinking about doing it anyways.

For the pricing, if I can I'll leave the commissioned scenes uncapped just in case someone wants to give me $5k or something. A man can always dream, and I've learned from my many years in sales that you never set the maximum. Other than that the 10/20/30/50 pricing will let people set their own donation amount well enough. It's all just fluff anyways.

They really aren't deleted scenes, just non-canon. Either skipped as they didn't add enough or didn't fit well enough into the canon. One of the criticisms that I've gotten in Harem is that the sex scenes can get overwhelming at times, where they're just one after another and there's not enough gameplay between them to keep them memorable. I do think there's some basis to that. I've coded 3 of the non-canon scenes already and planed two others. 4 take place in the colonies and one in the tram. None really violate the canon, might even add a bit of character depth.

I really wouldn't smack people for feedback, even if it's critical or negative. It's all beneficial for me in making the game better. Except for trolling, and they're like Terra that way. The more you smack them, the more they come back.

Beat the game twice, both paths of course ^_^ I love the game and can only wait for more updates haha.

Well, for a version 0.6 this is a massive game, I totally love it. Been playing for 3 days, just to finish the light path (partially), so I've still got alot of time before I'm done, haha.

ker, I think I know someone who can help with that script you are looking for. When I played Raindrops' Emmerzail game, I noticed that every time my character got attacked or when I used a skill that affects them, a small icon pops up showing my character's sprite along with health and mp. Maybe you can talk to Raindrops and ask about it.
