Beginner flash programmer

I just got CS3 and I was wondering where I should start to learn this flash programming. It's a bit overwhelming and I don't know where to start. I opened it once and had no idea what anything was. I went to the "Animation and resource links" topic in these forums and I don't know where to start at. Could someone please point me in a direction? I would really love to learn how to use flash.

I made my very first animation with flash just a little while ago. If I can remember how to upload I will up load it...OK figured how to do that. It's very basic, but it's a start right? I want to know how to do things with Playshapes things though. Is that very hard?

OwnerOfSuccuby, I downloaded the FLV for MiM2 and Peachy, but CS3 won't open them, do I have to do anything special to open them? They are the exact same type so I'm not sure how to figure this out. Thanks for helping me out.

*edit - It seems like CS3 is just too old, I'll try to get CS5 sometime.

The latest version of Flash for now is CS 6 - i use old one CS5.5, but CS6 is better and have some new abilities. It is better to look for CS6.

Yes new project do not open in CS3, but if you will have problems with that (can not download new version - limited in internet or some time limits for it) - try to play with some stuff on flashkit. There are a lot of good stuff even for Macromedia flash MX and Flash 5 (The oldest version that was more than 7-9 years ago).

A lot of people on forum use CS4 and older versions - i think even 30% use CS6. One day i plan to use CS6 too or CS7 if they make it

But now it is a problem for me to install and looking for updates of my version of CS5.5 flash - becouse i have limits with time - a lot of business trips on work and etc New functions in CS6 is sprite list and some stuff fore internet - so i do not need it for now But some day i think it can be usefull.

If you have android you can try to make flash or some thing like apk with it for it by the way

I am not good enough to tell more about it - I try it a long time ago and it worked - but need to be optimized - becouse phones are not as powerfull as PC - and i havent got enough time for experements

Try to look this in interner: Video2Brain. Adobe Flash Professional CS6. some videos are useful and interesting i think - but he tells a little ... i do not know how to say - when he tells some thing in videos i want to sleep But some examples a realy good

Just got CS6 to be good to go! I think it is going to take some time for me to learn and get used to doing this though. I downloaded playshapes' mario is missing 2 and Just Peachy and when I load them I have no idea what to do with anything.

Like learning anything though, it's going to take time.

Downloading some project that someone have made is really not a good idea, it is just a mess to look at, even for those who know what they're doing. Every one does things differently, there is not one way, that's why. Just start with an empty document and look up tutorials on how you do things. For example a button. You can always see if there is someone that could give private lessons, I'm always up for teaching so let me know.

I do not think so Katsu May be for drawing and animation it is right, but not for coding. Is is inpossible to learnhow to code without examples. You need code and optimizations. To look how is better too make. And think how is better to make and to do. I understand a lot of good things looking others projects. Intresting ideas, code optimizations and etc. New comands that i newer used and see and even know that they exist.

But ofcouse you need to program too only looking is not enough

Even may be it is true for animation and drawing. Looking how others do some thing you get exp - but not your own - you get understanding how to do some thing and how it is possible to do and learn. When you do some thing you level up your own exp in it, and you can make better and better thingth that you do and that you understanding how to do.

So both is important i think. But i am not good in animationg and drawing so may be i am not correct about it

@wnerOfSuccuby I didn't understand most of what you said.

This is how it works if you are new to something like this and you're going to learn it by yourself. You don't start learning how to program, those symbols and odd words doesn't make enough sense for you to wrap your brain around. If you are going to look at it then you use the three keys on the keyboard, CTRL, C and V. In other words, you just copy and paste it. You then get an idea of what those codes does, may also experiment and see where things takes you. This is where you can do a few changes to them, mostly untouched but enough changes to make a difference. You can still not write anything from scratch. Then you start to get an idea of the structure behind the codes and what you have to do to get something to even function. When you got that you can start writing something, nothing too complex, but at least from scratch and then you just build up from there. It goes on for a while and you keep using the same old codes until you know what you're doing which is when you write everything on your own. So you copy and paste it, get an idea of what it does, edit it, understand it and then you write it from scratch.

What you really start with though is the art and animations once you figured out how that works. So what you're doing is creating art and animation and maybe using code along with it. Not creating the code since you just copy and paste it, so you're not programming. If you just start there then that's perfect.

Thank you for helping me out, both of you. I have a surprise! It's my first ever animation made with CS6. I want to point out that it is nothing special but it's a start. I will try to learn more and more.

I would like to learn everything from coding to drawing on CS6. I understand how the basic shape making works and how to use the pencil tool. I know the basics of using the brush tool as well. (The panda taught me that!)Without further ado, here is my first ever flash "game" (as long as there is a button it's a game right?) and this game is just a creepy blue sun, with a red sky...I just realized that's kinda opposite from what Earth has...

How do you put the view into a spoiler thingy? in the file comment?

Katsy / Corta / Gorepete / ... are good in animation and drawing i think - so you can ask them, one of them is already there

I can only tell about some code solutions, i am only learning now in animation and drawing - so some questions about coding you can ask them or me

OK I think I figured out how to spoiler my uploads now, I will edit my posts so that the thingies don't just pop up, they are just basic flash things anyways.

I just did this, to get more intricate is going to take some time I think. But it's good to see for anyone wanting to learn, oh I'll link to the page that taught me how to do this.
