How is it even possible that so few games are finished?

Postby michaelbrew » Fri Sep 21, 2012 12:07 am

This forums have been around forever...and in the completed sticky of the creative corner...two games. What is this, I don't even. It is not more difficult to make a porn game than to make a normal flash, but there are literally thousands of flash games made every year, hundreds of which are of at least "enjoyable" quality. A single qualified designer could make tens of thousands of dollars by churning out a high quality game every week or two - he'd have the market cornered. Why does no one do this? And on the forums here, everyone seems to try, but they're making complete garbage in the first place, usually, and even those never get finished.

So what is the holdup, seriously?

TROLOLOL. Make me a porn game first while I tell you how shitty it is and then ask again lol. Dude want more games made? Do em yourself. No need to come in and insult those trying. Its not like we spend 24/7 making flash games.

Oh man the irony!

But if you really want to know the reason why, just read your post again ad you'll uderstand.

XD I'm sorry, but two assholy posts this close together?!?!
I'm laughing so hard right now!

Also, in my defense, I wasn't trying to be an asshole, it just came out that way.
Now! on topic, lets try and understand what this guy said!

~

It appears this guy does not understand that the developers on this forum have a life. Whilst the ones that chug games out really fast do that for a living, the people here do it for free, and thus have to do other things to make money, hindering their ability to get the games done as fast.

...What is up with my vocabulary up there?

Actually I would like to beleive everyone has a life or else they'd be dead no? I just think hes a bit immature. Hes seems to only be thinking with his dick rather than his brain.

Instead of complaining he should be basking in the glory of the finished ones and look at all the hardwork the people here put in.

It's fine. But we went exactly, and I am going from my own records, 3 months 2 weeks, 1 day, 12 hours 15 minutes and 22 seconds without one of these posts.

To make porn game is harder. It needs more animation and so it needs more time. You can not make it if you only can program like some fighting for example - becouse you will always will need more and more animation that is not such easy to get. But it is only my opinion

And some times there are some time problems

If people could make millions doing it, they would. Let's put it this way. Currently, I get paid $18.95 an hour for my current job. So you want me to make a game for people, that bitch at me, don't pay me, or help me, on my own free time, for free? That is the fundamental basis. People do what they think their time is worth, or what they enjoy. Why spend 12 hours a week making a video game for people, when that is almost $200 dollars of my time?

We normally have to start from scratch and this means we have to build the engine, graphics, and other coding stuff are self. This isn't bad but take a games like COD, or Battle field. Those games take 2 years to make, use the same engine as the last game and have teams of people. I'd expect no less than 100 people to have their hands on doing something worth while of the games development.

Anyways, i have officially created a full game on LOK, and i have a semi complete game that i really just need to release the source on and see what people do with it.

Now, i shall start programming my "Myth0" Engine.

Also a single flop ruins a company. It costs so much to develop anything that isn't indie these days.

People these days. They just can't make flashes fast enough to please the public....Tsk tsk tsk. Well Michael/Micky people do actually do other things so that takes away from flash time. But honestly if you find that the flash porn games are lacking then by all means make your own and I'll be glad to play it. Also CONGRATS ON YOUR FIRST POST! :D

If I was a computer engineering major, I would make games just to show you just how "doing it wrong" your community is. Making flash games don't take that much time - and I'm not just just talking out of my ass. Here's how I know: Flash game creation contests. They give programmers say, 48 hours to make a game, start to finish. The winning games are always really creative and fun to play - and unlike the "work in progress" nonsense that is so popular on this site, these games actually get finished. Google some contest winners' games - Notch (http://www.mojang.com/notch/) participates in Java 4K Programming Contest (http://javaunlimited.net/contests/java4k.php), if you want a good example of doing it right.

As for the above poster, you definitely seem knowledgeable. That said, you're exaggerating wildly. You know as well as I do that no one is asking you to make Call of Duty 5: Black Cocks, a 3D FPS with a complicated engine from scratch. The extent of what you should be making is a flash that takes about half an hour to beat, with a few jiggly sprites, possibly with creative elements, and, of course, left-handed gameplay (people who make porn games with two-handed controls can go fuck themselves). Just go to Armorgames or Kongregate for non-porn examples of what you should be doing. You see Knightmare Tower? Do that with some busty bitch, and every bad guy is a dildo or something. How many hours could that realistically take? 100? One person, a month or two, done. You have one of the best porn games ever made. Crank those out, 6 a year at a slow pace, a few years and you've got a very profitable website.

Look. I tend to be the nice guy and stay my tongue, but I am going to boil it down to the basics for you.

A) You are not a computer engineering major, so you cannot make a game to show us how our model is wrong. On top of all that, how many of us here makes games and aren't computer engineering majors. *raises hand*. How many of us are self taught. *raises hand*. So yes a programmer can do shit, and I would hope they could, otherwise they are in the wrong profession. A self taught artist using illustrator, self taught programmer using C++, Java, Action-script, self taught animator using high-school anatomy classes as his starting point. Notch also did not make millions "OVER-NIGHT" yes his little fun game is amazing, I like it a lot, but his biggest success; minecraft, was not made over night. So moot point. It's all a bunch of amateurs here.

Since you never made sprites, or animated them, you are seriously coming across as an asshole right now. Knightmare tower? Made by multiple people, with related training in said field, over several weeks. Armorgames and Kongregate are by large, people that are trained in it. So until you ask them yourself how long it takes to make a game, or go about proving to us how amazing you are by showing your standards.

This is also a non-profit website.

So either change your tone, or stop posting.

On a side note, I don't want to do video games for my proffesion, it's a distraction for me. I work with the government, as well as another on the side job, while studying full time. I am happy contributing to society in my own way.
