And everything went to hell in a couple of seconds. Deni winced at the sound of a thunderous crash coming from the front. An old phrase that her mom used to chide her with on her curiosity suddenly popped into mind. Curiosity killed the cat. Deni's answer had been that they didn't have a cat, were they getting one?
Now thankfully a bit more sensible as she aged, Deni couldn't help grinning to herself at the thought.
"Be right back, Dahl."
She stepped after Steve as he ran forward and then suddenly stopped. She glanced to the doorway and her blue eyes widened. Wow. That was definitely a good reason to stop. A massive grotesque horror was shambling into the hallway. The reinforced metal doors were useless on the floor, a huge indentation where the monster had smashed it. Better get running.
Deni ran back up to Dahlia, fear reflected in her blue eyes. Her hands were clenched tightly around her nightstick, an obviously useless weapon against that thing..
"Dahlia! We have to move!"
Her friend grinned at her and raised glowing hands. Deni raised an eyebrow as she continued running..or at least she thought she was. She glanced down. She was suddenly floating in mid air..her legs still pumping in a running motion, but she was getting nowhere. Righttt. Dahlia moved Deni over to her skateboard and seated her down on the board, which wasn't hard. Deni didn't take that much space. Dahlia kicked off and Deni held on tightly as they sped through after the other survivors. They ground to a screeching stop and Dahl's telekinesis released itself, as Deni found after wiggling her toes experimentally. Apparently toes couldn't move if they were locked under telekinesis. Interesting fact.
The photographer girl glanced up just in time to watch two razor sharp metal projectiles surge forward, targeted at the two closest zombies. Deni didn't have time to look at their targets as Dahl piped up, asking her about zombie movies..
"Not much, really..and only with friends. They honestly kind of scared me."
Deni gave Dahl a sheepish smile. She had probably just saved her life again. Deni glanced back to the targeted zombies, wow-ing as one of the metal projectiles did a rapid 360 and decapitated the zombie. A geyser of crimson blood painted the floor red as the zombie fell lifeless to the ground, the head rolling away just under a meter away.
"Cool."
Deni smiled, spinning the baton experimentally with her fingers.
Sleep unbeknownst to I, this one lives in perpetual need of coffee..
