Greg smirks with confidence as he closes in for the uppercut-stab at Jack's innards...only to realize that the skin wasn't pierced, and his arm's complaining about how it feels to attempt stabbing a steel plate. He doesn't have time to step back for another go, however, as Jack's arm hits him so hard, it felt as if the impact would tear him in half. Thankfully, it didn't do that, but it still hurt like a bitch."AAAAAGHH!" He cries out in pain, searing white-hot pain, more than what most men could endure without going comatose. In fact, he does black out for a very brief instant, though no longer than a literal blink of the eye. His sense of pain has temporarily gone numb, his ears are ringing like clock tower bells, and his sight shifts and blurs, not yet receiving sufficient power to accurately feed the brain.
It seems that he's drawn Jack's attention to himself, which is a mixed blessing. Sure, it means he has a very tough enemy looking right at him, but it also means that Claire has a chance to escape...and frankly, he's been trying to draw Jack's focus all this time, so that she could go get help. Well, whatever cavalry she could call by now will end up arriving too late, at this rate...and while he's a proud warrior, ready to die for his beliefs, she has more to live for, and might not be immediately willing to let that go to waste...
...and that's why he can't give up...why he never has, nor will he ever give up. Whether these clowns die first, or he does, they won't simply have their way.
"You want me to give up? Yeah, you don't know me at all..." With that said, Greg resorts to a melee-bash on the woman's face with his SMG, as he's not in a position to reload its clip right now. The moment that attack is done knocking the makeup right off her arrogant face, he shouts out to Claire: "Claire, if you want to run, go right ahead...but I'm fighting to the bitter end." He knows the odds...between the Paladin bitch and her friend Jack, he'd have a tough, maybe even insane fight on his own. However, Claire's own weaponry hasn't done much more than his own (no offense to her, obviously), and he'd rather hold them off while she escapes, than have them both be beaten, and be forced to watch the giant jackass rape her. He can't explain why, but in his mind, seeing that happen is a fate far worse than death itself, so between that and dying to protect her, he'd rather play the "hero's sacrifice" role.
Be that as it may, though, he's perfectly willing to have a plan that gets them both out alive. Were it not for Jack's powerful legs and chasing ability, he would've ran with Claire at the start...well, too late for regrets now.
