I also need to say that the idea of this one is from Hind and she have done a great job with the different characters so far which I hope you'll all will enjoy but she have also been sharing other great ideas too.

This is a library job where you need to put rented books on the right shelves. Not the most advance game but it is solid and I think it is easy enough to understand. Also, you'll earn more money the faster you do it and the more score you got.

If you have any idea of a job mini-game, please let us know.

Can i see you putting random name generator on it and have it so you sort the books by sections?

mini games... jobs...

Unfortunately the only mini game I could think of is probably being a janitor...

Say a kid's game center called, Mr. Harrybawls 4 U. And you know how kids are... crazy, messy... bratty... So there's this playpen with this pool of colourful balls and these kids are just utter jerks, so they tend to throw these balls everywhere. The job is to locate the balls in a Where's-Waldo-esque kind of way.

Would that work?

Or was that useless input?

@BlueLight That actually sounds like a great idea. I just don't really know how it could be done, not random generator but having different books with different names. Maybe if there is a bunch of different looking books and each can have 10 different names but I don't know if that would be a good way of doing it.

@Cthulhu That was not useless input because most things gives us ideas. One of the things I have been thinking about is cleaner so janitor is not so bad. I don't know about the ball idea but I think something can be done with finding things.

/*
* make random object.
* use random with 5 giving a value of 0-4 then add 1 so 1-5
* Run method for book type. you get a return value.
* Run method for key word and as a parameter sent the book type though.
* Now make a string with random words that relate to the book type and have the random keyword in there.
* print name on book symbol/object

Mr. Harrybawls 4 U...? ACK! NO! That name... too funny...
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
...whew... gasp... Anyways, that is an awesome minigame idea. You've got my vote Cthulhu, maybe we should even keep the name if possible.

Um... Right, progress report.
Today I sat at my desk and sketched some damn hands, the result: I still suck balls at it!
Not really too bad, though. I've at least perfected the overall shapes and the sizing so far, there's just a little more practice until I'll consider my hand sketching "good enough" to proceed with character sheet practice. (Drawing fingers properly is kicking my ass, more than anything!) O,o

Hmm... jobs? I can't think of anything right now, as long as it doesn't involve running around a hotel and closing doors. (Such as on Hotel Mario, which is really quite terrible).

If it helps, I usually start drawing my hands off as a square with one corner longer than the rest as to where my forefinger will be. Using that as a basis for the direction of there I want the hands to go. then I draw the thumb, focusing more on how I present the thumb before following with the hands. Generally I would think back on these, using your hands as a real life model helps to where there you would draw the direction of the square. But I would suggest you practive draw hands a lot, it took me 5 years to at least get the basic principals of hands. When it comes to cleaning it up, you just need your own judgement to decide if it looks plausible or if you need to retouch the hands a bit more.

The hand to the left is wrong because of the forefinger looking too long, but these are just how I usually draft my hands before retouching them.

Well, if it helps the hands-debate: At least the artiodactyla should be fine with three-fingered hands, quite similiar to the WoW-taurens. But that's just my opinion XD

Job Ideas:
Teaching/Tutoring - Simple maths/word puzzles. It could be something like finding grammar/spelling mistakes in a block of text. Wait, is it wrong that I would find that really fun...?

Secretary - Typing challenge, so player has to type a wsentence as quickly/accurately as they can

Chef/Cook - I was thinking something like being given a recipe, and then having to cook it from memory, being penalised for steps that are done incorrectly

Well since this topic is run by a mod so triple-chance my post will be seen, no excuse to laze out and just lurk this time huh.

Been thinking of possible minigames, and the one that I can't shake - you know those... pipe-path games? Plumber! Not a glamorous job but a fairly easy one for a game (since the game basically already exists in a number of forms). Place pipes in their correct sequence? Maybe just twist them (though that one sounds mind-numblingly easy)? Pretty sure it's not the best idea but if I get it out I can try to move on to better ones anyways. And who knows? Maybe it's a better idea than I give myself credit for!

Anyways I'm having high hopes for this game! And I know it's like super-ancient at this point, but I'm seriously keeping fingers crossed you follow Red.Sheer's earlier suggestion and put deer in, I love deer. But I'm still looking forward to the game whatever you do. Good luck!

Nice idea, I've always liked those games, and it suits the idea of being a mini game for a plumber

Twisting pipes to fit a path isn't as easy as it sounds. They made a whole flash out of just that before. Or, for another plumber idea, perhaps have to go through a 'pipe maze' ala Super Mario World to 'clean' the right path? Dunno.

@BlueLight Thanks for the steps but I'm not sure how I would write that in code. I think I know how to do it though and I'm sure I'll get it to work once I work on it. Thanks again for the idea.

@Icelink256 Aww, it is sad to hear that you're stuck at hands. If it still doesn't work out then you might need a brake from hands, you can see if you can get the legs and feet right and then you can switch between those. It is like practicing guitar, if you practice too long then it feels like you're doing worse each time. At least it works a bit like that for me.

@Cthulhu Thank you for the help!

@IrrelevantComment Thanks for all the ideas. It's not weird at all that you find that fun. The idea of correcting things sounds pretty good though I don't know what should be written in those block of text. Typing challenge is something I thought about as well but it's the same problem here. Then Cook is also a good idea.

@Wonderful Hawk Your post is 100% chance that I will see it. As my signature says, I'm just a back-up moderator. If someone need me to take over then I can do that but there is no reason for me to be a full time moderator. I've made the text black and bigger now so it is easier to see but the same words have been there since weeks back. The reason why I'm here again is because I got a new project and the reason why I don't turn off moderator is because I wouldn't be able to see the unapproved posts in my thread.

I know what you mean by pipe-path game and it is a great idea. Hind have already suggested it but it is good that you suggest it as well because then we know what people would like.

Thank you, I hope you're less disappointed in me now. Don't worry you'll get a deer.

@IrrelevantComment post 2 It will be in the game for sure since you're the third that want's that.

@FMC I'm not going to go with something as advance as those games so I think it will be possible.

Well, I don't mean put the entire thing in there. Just the idea that you have multiple paths to chose from, and you have to choose the correct path to get to the 'exit,' which is the path that cleans it 'correctly,' perhaps starting over if you get it wrong.

Or, have four paths, and have some indication of where to go (maybe subtle) and if you choose the wrong path, you start over or fail the game, ala Lost Woods from Ocarina of Time.

@FMC I actually commented on what you said about twisting pipe games and that I'm going to make it a bit more simple so it won't be that hard to make.

If we can think of some indication that works then I'm sure we can do something with that as well. Thanks for the idea.

Oh. Well, I thought you meant the whole 'pipe maze' thing, not the pipe path. My bad. I didn't think it'd be that hard to make, anyway, comparatively speaking, but hey, what do I know? Just the basic programming languages of C++ and Pascal that I haven't touched for years. xD

Perhaps a subtle change in colour? Maybe change in length? Or, on a block next to it, have a subtle change in design? Just throwing ideas out there off the top of my head. Could be used, could not, just thinking.

You can bet that if the Hind is working on the chars you'll see there WILL be deer :D Even though my avatar says I'm a sheep. But I'm actually both :ugeek: Don't you just love the thought of how that happened?

Anyaway, cheers for another deer-fan :)

Minigame? Job? How about professional gamer?

Various arcade-style games to play, and if you beat the current high score you get a big prize pool. It would have to be pretty difficult, but I think it could be pretty fun.

@FMC Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see if I can do something with it.

@Zeus Kabob I haven't thought about that actually. An arcade hall would be awesome! There could also be a price pool like you suggested but you could have the chance to win something when there's a competition. You would have to spend money in the arcade and I don't have that many places where you can spend money planed so it makes things even better. On top of that, It could also be a perfect place for my favorite character. Thanks for the suggestion, it really gave us ideas.

I got some help from IrrelevantComment when I was making this one which I'm really thankful for. It would be sad to not have a mini-game like this. You can't turn, discard, replace or change the current pipe but that is actually a part of the challenge. I might add so that you can see the next pipe and so that you can go back one step. I'm going to add more squares to the real thing but I think that's enough for the test.

Lol, you should have it so you don't have to use the exact pipes... I.E., you fail only if you run out of space.

That said, it'd be better if you could find a way to discard a pipe you don't want. Unless, of course, you want them to place it on a random sector to get rid of it, making deciding what to 'get rid' of a more tactical choice.
