Painting Red [IC]

Postby napsii » Wed Jun 06, 2012 10:20 pm

August 19th, 2013 - 1:28 PM:

Another day in Siribalt. One that should blend into each and every other over the past several months. The black clouds plague the sky, casting the once magnificent colors of the city into a gloomy, lonely gray overcast. Thankfully, no rain comes. In fact, it seems bone dry, but the breeze is comfortable as one walks through the deserted landscape, providing an almost isolated comfort as they stray from the hidden but well guarded nests of survivors holed up around the city, or the more buzzing Triple Sword outposts that populate high rooftops and fortified streets, safe from most infected. It is unusually quiet, even. The gunfire of the city's infamous sentry guns sound off only once per hour as the shambling walkers flee into their dark retreats in buildings, alleys and sewers.

There's still many alive left in Siribalt, but there's a few, human and otherwise, that are worth note on this day:

Alex Spade, The Defiant -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Like any other day, you can't claim to have woken in a particularly great mood. Intermittent running water makes it hard to shower and most of the people you've eaten for mere survival lately have not been the most satisfying, leaving you thirsting for more. Nevertheless, today your strength is formidable and unlike most other days spent wandering and murdering Triple Sword and bloodthirsty infected, today you have a lead on striking a heavy blow among TSS' ranks.

You stand on the edge of a rooftop of a small building in the western part of the city, towards the deserted commercial area where the streets are lined with restaurants and stores alike. Below you, the simple two lane street is fairly bland and empty with only a few wrecked flyers from Sirin on the street, most of the quaint stores (selling sporting goods, a beauty salon, small restaurants, and so forth) having been hastily boarded up or abandoned. Either way, little life comes from any of them.

You're after one store in particular, however. Not for looting, but rather for the person inside. A small comic book and generally nerdy shop (visible a few leaps away, cramped between two larger buildings) apparently plays host to one of Triple Sword and Sirin International's most relentless critics and they've supposedly gathered some useful info they might be willing to share. Might.

Two tiny, boarded up windows and a small glass door (also boarded up) make up the store's front end, the plain sign above it "R's Novelty" mostly scratched out from age. No movement comes from inside, and you see nobody other than yourself for what feels like kilometres around. In the narrow alley running parallel behind the shops, you imagine there's a back door, as well.

Aries Cain, The Hopeful -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The Triple Sword central base, codename Gold Throne, is the most pleasant place in Siribalt right now.

It's a large and elaborate, circular base directly ringing Selwick Tower, as you probably already know, but what sets it apart is the sheer amount of fortification. Multi-layered walls, towers and sentry guns ringing the perimeter, reinforced temporary buildings and stringent security measures make the base nearly impenetrable, even by the strongest infected.

Black and green are the predominant colors, various types of camoflauge painted on the humvees, tanks, APC's and other vehicles that roll by serving to remind you that you are far from home. As well, numerous soldiers line the makeshift barracks, commissary and other cramped buildings in between the makeshift trails that form roads between the miniature city. It's noisy, as usual, as people are running around. You're feeling awkward as you're scanned up and down by your passing contemporaries. Female mercenaries are uncommon and you've always felt somewhat degraded more or less because your physical weakness often makes your nanny-like superiors bar you from dangerous missions, always feeding you the same "You're too valuable to lose" crap.

But today's different. You're a good twenty feet away from the front doors of Selwick Tower, which is heavily guarded and blocked with sandbags, metal barriers and lined with several soldiers with M4's, two APC's on either side of the door and a few gun turrets manned by more soldiers. To your left, there's a commissary where one can use their credit card to buy discount food of all kinds. To your right, a small armory with the armorer inside, ready to distribute and repair weapons.

You've been called here via radio by Commander Silk herself, ordered to report to the 35th floor of Selwick Tower in full combat gear for a "special briefing".

The door guards seem to know this. They shuffle around impatiently for you to approach, one of them wearing a blue hazmat suit and gas mask holding a large yellow device with a screen you identify as a viral scanner. It will determine if one's infected with SIV and is usually pretty accurate, but needs to be held up to someone for it to work.

Of course, if you went in now, you'd be there early. Could always explore a bit.

Dax Sierra, The Commoner -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Ohi Dax.

You don't have the benefit of super physical powers, or rations anytime you want. Rather you've gotta find them yourself, with hard work. And by hard work I usually mean putting on gloves and patting a dead body up and down for ammo or equipment of some kind. You managed to fall in with a fairly amicable group of survivors who had established a base in a small, reinforced warehouse to the south of the city, near the airport. They are fairly stocked on supplies right now, but following an infected attack, you found yourself nearly out of ammo and decided to set out into the city searching for more equipment to boost your firepower.

You've traveled to the western commercial district of Siribalt, the streets of which are lined with crashed cars, the odd dead body and tons and tons of small businesses that have mostly been ravaged for their contents, and the ones boarded up or reinforced seeming lifeless. Currently, you stand at an intersection stuffed with wrecked and abandoned cars, SUVs and even a motorcycle. The street to your east and south has been blocked off by a tanker truck crashing, but the north leads to more stores, and the west towards the walls.

Claire Jones, The Swordsgirl -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

You've gotten pretty far using only your blades. Thankfully they are still sharp enough after so much abuse to slice infected's heads off, and you've even managed to get a few critical hits on unsuspecting Triple Sword soldiers you've gotten into brawls with, or even crazed survivors seeking to do gods know what with you.

While your blades obviously don't need ammo you heard a rumor that a survivor with a formidable cache of stuff hidden in one of the shipping containers down at the harbor had blown himself up with a grenade by accident, leaving his supplies ripe for the picking. You have no idea which of the dozens if not hundreds of containers before you it is, only that "UGPR" is part of the serial code labeled onto its doors and it's colored a dark green.

Currently you're at the thankfully deserted looking Siribalt Harbor where the container would be, on the chipped tarmac. Directly ahead of you are the large wharves and drydocks that are empty of ships, and to your left and right rows upon rows of multi colored containers, some broken into and some still locked. The big yellow freight crane is visible far off to your left, and strangely, atop the chain link fences behind you there are small cameras visible atop poles, whirring back and forth. One of them in particular seems to dote on you, but you have no idea who would have placed them there as they were not here but a day or two ago.

Beside that stuff, there's also a small, windowed building far off to the right where the long gone harbormaster's office is located.

Raz Heller, The Killer -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Oh, it's you again.

Still killing as always, I see. But that's the only way you get stronger. And today is no different. You've been hungry for a while now and it'd be worth it to indulge in one of the various honeypots here.

At the south end of the city, you sit on a high, abandoned building across the street from a gigantic, metal-roofed warehouse shaped like a rectangle with boarded up windows, two reinforced doors to its north ends and the concrete yard surrounding it cut off by high, barbed wire fences. Inside here, you know, are tons of unsuspecting survivors. Through the cracks in the windows, you've discerned some movement inside, but have no idea on how to approach. You could leap over the fence, but that still leaves the matter of actually getting inside.

The fences are surrounded by sidewalk and street on all four sides, some streets leading off to other parts of the city. There's a metal gate to the north end of the fence, staffed by a single sentry with an AK a bulletproof vest, a radio and a pair of binoculars. The yard is otherwise empty, with only a few dumpsters and dead grass poking up from in between the cracked tarmac visible. The gates are sealed tight. From your perch, you can see there's not really much else other than you around here, although the airport is visible far off to the south and it is swamped with infected like yourself.

To think that my hunt for vengeance would lead me here, of all places... Alex thinks to himself. He recalls a few memories of his days with the ENJC, and how Greg told stories about his friend Jon. That guy was also a pretty good fighter, but he had a particular taste for some of the geeky merchandise one would find in "R's Novelty"...anime, manga, Japanese video games of various genres...the dude was a pretty big otaku-nerd, for sure.

Of course, Jon was Jill's older brother, so that also brings back a few painful and more recent memories...and serves to rekindle his desire for vengeance. Patience, Mr. Spade...patience... he reaffirms his current focus, as his vengeful desires will only get him killed if he acts on them unprepared. For that, he needs the information that the man inside has, and he will obtain it, no matter what it takes. A shop like this is probably run by a wimpy dork, so chances are that he won't need violence to get his info...but if he has to sever the man's balls first, he'll do so.

Deciding that keeping his profile low on entry, Alex quickly makes his way over the rooftops, towards the geek-shop's back alley. Once he gets there, he checks that alleyway for a back door, as well as anyone down there that he may need to dispose of to reach it.

Razajin chuckles as he views the sight of his next meal. "Stupid humans. Always thinking you can hide and lock the door and expect no one to knock it down." He stays on the rooftop for a couple of minutes before figuring out a plan. He decides that he will leap over the fence and jump ontop of the roof with his incredible strength and move on from there. He frowns slightly as he thinks about what he is really doing. "Is this really what i have become some monster feasting on humans as a source of food and pleasure? No..... I have become something greater than human. I have become an Apex Predator and it only makes sense to hunt the weaker and use them." He grins as he comes to that conclusion before diving off the adjacent rooftop and setting his plan into action.

Gold Throne. One of the last places in Sirinbalt that could actually be considered safe. Aries glanced at Selwick Tower briefly, it's splendor reflecting sunlight all over. One of the last places that were safe and luxurious, then.
"Silk..what does she want?"
Aries stepped up to the building's doors, the procedural scanning completing quickly without any problems. The front doors slid open..
Inside was all Aries had thought it was, just luxury stuff. Nothing much to do here unless you were rich.
So..her orders had been to report to the 35th floor in her full combat gear. Well then, wasn't this unexpected. Aries knew how to handle a gun from her previous experiences and she could damn well patch up half-dead soldiers back and almost new unless they had lost an arm or something. All typical field medic properties..but that usually didn't earn you a personal and special mission from the top brass of Triple Sword itself..
Still, an order was an order and this was a great chance to search for Leo on the way..Aries smiled sadly at the thought of Leo, stepping into the elevator and tapping on the 35th. The elevator rose quickly.
Her gloved hands fumbled with the locket she always wore, pulling it out and cracking it open. The old picture depicted the two of them, Leo and Aries. She remembered when it had been taken..when Leo had finally found a part-time job he could hold on to. They had been happy, just the two of them. Even with all that life had to throw at them..well, this was just too big.
She coughed once, almost forgetting that she still had that minor flu. Damn weak immune system..it was even more of a risk coming into Sirinbalt with the highly contagious SI Virus..but Leo was here..she needed to find him at all costs. But could he survive till she found him? Leo was...not the athletic type, definitely. He was resourceful, that much she would give him but then he spent most of his time studying, anyway. So much for knowledge when the apocalypse struck. Maybe he could brain some infected with encyclopedias or something..

The elevator dinged, the doors opening out to the 35th floor. Aries hastily snapped the locket shut and shoved the keepsake down her shirt, walking out of the elevator. The 35th floor had a more militaristic in comparison to the 1st floor's luxury...better, anyway.
She glanced at a nearby clock. Hm, still had some time left before she was due to meet Commander Silk..time to wait, then. Aries sunk into one of the seats placed at some kind of lounge, shifting the UMP.45 she carried to a more comfortable spot.

Alex -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Your journey towards the alleyway is short and uneventful. Overhead, a black Huey helicopter with twin machine guns poking out the open doors flies above, heading towards Selwick Tower. The alleyway itself is narrow and fairly cramped, some gunk having collected on the worn, uneven tarmac. Beyond a few smelly dumpsters and some trash, there's not a whole lot there except a small wooden crate full of...soda? Yeah, root beer. 12 old fashioned looking bottles with the caps still on. You can see it's still cold. It's just sitting there on the ground adjacent the plain, narrow door that leads into the back of R's Novelty. It looks locked from the inside, but isn't barricaded. A few strikes would tear it down, but your instinct tells you that doing so might not be a good idea.

Your senses can't pick up anything inside the store through the walls. It seems eerily quiet. A small breeze blows through the empty alleyway, the sound of the traveling chopper fading from your ears.

Aries -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Selwick Tower, as per the great Davis Selwick himself's design plans, is elaborate and luxurious through and through. Marble flooring and out of place tapestries line the modern and very sanitary corridors. Even the elevator has a heated floor. And it's all in pristine shape, thanks to the tiny, silent cleaning bots buzzing around on the floors, requesting that the bored but well-dressed looking guards move out of the way should they bump into each other.

The inside is silent, save for the quiet jingle of the classical music providing ambience through the speakers, but the keen-eyed guards that patrol the hallways leer at you when you cough. Seems just about everyone here is neurotic about disease of any kind, but thankfully they're smart enough to know that were you infected with SIV, you would be acting far differently.

The lounge outside the 35th floor...well, lounge seems kind of redundant. Two fancypants magnetically sealed doors block off the way to inside the VIP lounge where Silk presumably is, though this small "waiting room" for the only moderately rich or privileged employees is still stocked with a plain bar and the television playing the country's state news. The current topic is of a bus crash that claimed the lives of a high school basketball team the previous day. There's not even a single mention of Siribalt.

A solid twenty minutes later, the doors hiss open and a young man of maybe 19 wearing a sweater vest waves you inside.

The interior of this private club is far more attractive than what you were just sitting in. Fine flooring, an extremely elaborate bar and comfortable seating of all kinds dot the room, the windows appearing to overlook...Siribalt at day time? Yes, it looks like a pleasant and sunny day out, not a cloud in the sky with the cars zooming by in the streets and pedestrians walking by floors below. Gold Throne isn't even there! Then you realize: it's just a giant television screen, not a window, placed there so that the occupants wouldn't have to look at the gloomy destruction.

The sweater vest young man hops over to where a young, green eyed woman with long black hair sits at the bar drinking a whiskey sour with the bartender washing glasses behind the bartop. He whispers to her, and the woman, dressed in full combat gear and proudly displaying her "Colonel" insignia on her black uniform waves you over, taking another drink. She looks professional and intelligent. Just relaxing right now. A fearsome and colossal silver revolver is placed horizontally in the small of her back, along with a machete.

Dax -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

You unbuckle the saddlebags. Unfortunately, one of them is empty, but opening the other reveals what some might call a jackpot. Alongside 20 shots of ammo for your rifle, there's two ready to use molotov cocktails with matches taped onto them. All you have to do is shatter the bottle, and the mix of gas and tar inside will ignite. Additionally, and perhaps more interestingly, there's a small note with blueprints for how to make said self-igniting firebombs using only some common ingredients. You pocket it as well.

Dax got: Molotov Cocktail (x2), .22 Rifle Ammo (20 shots), Blueprints: Self-Igniting Molotov (will be destroyed if used to learn its contents)

You think you hear some groaning from a nearby alleyway. Sounds like a walker...maybe just one or two? Prob not much of a threat, but you should always be careful.

Up in the sky, a black Huey helicopter with machine guns putters overhead, heading towards Selwick Tower.

Claire -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Kicking the shipping container doesn't reveal more than a few loud thunks and some pain in your foot. Most of these containers, as you recall, were full of commercial goods and stranded here when ships stopping coming to the harbor. Mostly useless stuff. MP3 players, sanitary gloves, et cetera. Nobody has really been able to thieve their contents as most of the good stuff is locked in between other containers and you'd need the freight crane to release them. But some have been broken into.

The camera on the fence continues to eye you silently. It's hard to tell whether someone is controlling it manually, or if it's merely one of those fancy Triple Sword surveillance cams that hone in automatically on any movement. Either way, you're being watched by something.

Raz -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

You dive flamboyantly off the rooftop, clearing the street below and the fence with a loud thunk and cracking the tarmac in the warehouse yard with the force of your landing. It kicks up dust. You're now left standing against the eastern wall of the building. Through the thick, soundproofed walls, you can't hear any activity inside, but it's quite obvious that someone heard your landing. The AK-wielding guard, who snaps to attention, turns around and begins walking slowly to around the side of the building. You'd have a few seconds to run to the southern end or climb to the roof and avoid him seeing you, but he'll probably notice the small crater left by your landing anyway.

He mutters into his radio and someone calls back: "Okay, keep an eye out."

The sentry is just about nearing turning the corner. You could confront him if you wanted, but with the distance separating you and him it's extremely unlikely you could take him out without alerting the whole base first.

There's some audible rumbling a few blocks away. Definitely some Triple Sword vehicles. They seem to be nearing your location as the rumbling grows louder.

Rzjn Condition - Healthy.
Snty Condition - Healthy. On guard and suspicious.

Jason -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

The suburbs have always been a toss-up for survival. While the densely crowded inner city was the main killing ground when SIV first broke out, as the population there depleted the infection moved like a tidal wave out to the residential areas, targeting apartments, housing and other places where humans would likely hide. But, even though most houses have been ransacked or wrecked, many still have fortified their homes and buckled down, going out only for needed supplies or other reasons. Arguably, these survivors have been the safest if luck was on their side.

You currently stand in the northern suburbs towards the edge of the city, the long avenue you stand on populated with wrecked cars on the street, in driveways and even crashed into garages. Most of the cookie cutter houses here have been boarded up or pillaged (hard to tell if anyone's inside either way) but this place seems quiet indeed. Not a single zed of any kind in sight. The most you've seen of TSS, too, has been a couple of machine gun armed Humvees prowling down some nearby streets but that you haven't seen for a good long hour.

You're midway down the street, to your north, an intersection (left path leading to the western city, right to the east, and north to the city walls) and to your south another intersection with the southmost road leading towards the financial district of the inner city. To your right and left, there's several damaged SUVs and various cars on driveways, as well as 3 or 4 abandoned cars splayed out across the street. A few dead bodies and some flyers and garbage, but nothing really else.

Note: I will be using "Conditions" instead of HP. They are a generalization of your physical health and also include injuries, buffs, debuffs or any marked behavior.

Alex sees the crate of root beer, and takes note of its location. Flesh-feeding desires or otherwise, it never hurts to add some variety...besides, he loves that stuff, and could probably use a drink after his visit at the geek-shop. Moving on, he approaches the back door, examines it, and is about to rip it open...but something doesn't feel right...

No no no, this is too easy...and it's too quiet...I smell a trap. he muses to himself, while recalling that he's here to feed his brain, not his stomach...and tearing down a door all impromptu like that is a bad way to present oneself. It's a tad annoying, but he'll try to be a bit more civil for this one. Thankfully, he has a pair of sunglasses for this occasion, to hide those menacing red eyes of his, so he puts them on. A decent disguise is always helpful to avoid unnecessary trouble, as well as enemies that are presently out of his league. Chances are that he can't take on a tank or a gunship chopper all by himself, after all.

With the shades on, and his appearance kept tasteful, Alex stands alongside the door's frame, and knocks on it with a few taps from his knuckles. "Anybody home?" he calls in, while keeping himself unexposed enough that if this does turn out to be a trap, then his scope of vulnerability is reduced. Though, the chances of a comic shop owner being that well-armed are rather slim...but better safe than sorry.

Aries watched the cleaning bots scuttling around on the floor, each leaving the floor absolutely sparkling in their wake.
"Leo would've killed for one those bots for the apartment.."
Aries giggled, a sad smile drawing upon her expression at the thought of Leo. Two things to do, then. Find Leo, get him the hell out of here..and then buy one of those bots for him. He loved robots and stuff like that and both her and Leo..let's just say they weren't too good with housekeeping.
She glanced up from the bots to glare back at the guards as they walked past, each of their eyes fixing on her lithe figure with leery looks. Probably just cause she coughed..a girl couldn't sneeze and not get scanned nowadays. Geez. The guards soon passed through the hallway and Aries heaved a sigh. Sirinbalt was the worst place to be with her weak immune system. It made her horribly susceptible to the SI Virus..the only defense she had would not to get in contact in any of the Infected..
She snorted. Not hard to do at the present moment, since she was in Gold Throne. Heh.

Her fingers played with her long, light-blond hair as she passed the time. Silk was really taking her own sweet time..anything else to do while she waited? Aries glanced up, scanning the room. There was a bar...with no bartender. Pfft. Ah! A TV set. Good enough. She walked over and sat herself down in a better position to view the television.
Just news about a tragic bus crash that took the lives of a basketball team. In earlier times Aries would've felt some pity for their friends and families. Now? Hah. Those kids were lucky not to wake up as Infected.
The time passed slowly and frustrating and Aries was somewhat near the point of putting a few rounds into the television. Not even a bloody mention of all the stuff in Sirinbalt. Goddamn media. Freedom of speech my ass. She looked away from the screen expectantly as the doors hissed open, a young man gesturing to her to come inside. Finally.

Well now...wasn't this place just fancy? Aries made a poor show of keeping her face straight as she looked at the luxurious surroundings. She continued forward with the young man that was leading her over to the bar, making her wait while he informed a woman sitting at the bar drinking a whiskey. She was dressed in the full combat gear that TSS operatives wore, displaying a Colonel's insignia for all to see on her back. She waved, the gesture for Aries to get over there.
Aries complied, striding right over and saluting slowly.
"Commander Silk, honor to meet you."
Silk was definitely a professional at her job..she simply just gave off this air of confidence.
Aries couldn't help but notice the gigantic silver revolver holstered at the small of Silk's back. Wow, that was one big gun.
"Um. I was told that I had a special briefing of some kind...?"
She prompted, waiting for Silk to pick up on the question.

Razajin growls at the sound of the all too familiar TSS vehicles approaching. Figuring he has maybe half-hour or less before they arrive, he chooses to screw the stealth and go all out. With a grin from the simplicity of the situation, he sprints towards the corner where the sentry is about to turn, ready to cut him down. Red tendrils cover his arm before transforming it into a giant blade almost resembling the blade he spent his last human hours with. He hopes to reach the corner the same time the guard does so he can impale him on his giant blade, siphoning his energy for his own before trying to smash a hole in the wall or the roof to reach the juicy meals inside.

Aries -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Silk seemed to ignore you for a long time, seeming more content with finishing her drink than going off on her long-winded explanation. After a long minute, she finished and set it back down on the bartop, motioning for the bartender to dish out another.

She waved a hand, and the facade of Siribalt at day time vanished, revealing the actual city far below. From this high, you could get a very fantastic view. Stretching all the way to the horizon, you can see the infamous sentry guns, various TSS bases, and numerous firefights in the streets. And perhaps more eerily, strange black shapes inconsistent with TSS's various helicopters can be seen in the sky, or leaping from building to building.

"Yes. Good that you came." she said, turning to face you. You notice her earpiece is shoved into a pouch so she wouldn't have to deal with people bothering her over the radio. She leaned an elbow on the counter.

"I'll just cut to the chase since this is important. We're working with Sirin to start a push back against the SIV, but we can't just bomb the city. Selwick needs some special biological data or crap like that, so I need you on a few collection runs." she explained, turning back to the counter mid sentence. Her voice quieted down a bit as she spoke next.

"The infected we need to use...well, they're not normal. So this needs to be a secret." she gave way to the reason why she wanted to discuss this in private.

"Savvy?" she asked, sipping from her drink again. She was obviously not a lightweight as she seemed composed as ever despite her drinking.

Alex -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Just knocking politely was probably the best decision. The vibrations resounding through the door and traveling into your body warn your senses of some unnatural contraption lining the frame. It's of no surprise to you; traps are quite common to stop, hamper or at least warn the living of the infected. There's silence for a long time, but eventually the knob twists and the door creaks open. It's secured by a small chain, so it only opens a few inches.

A face becomes visible. It's a dainty-looking girl of about 14 years of age, with cutely trimmed neck length blonde hair and bright, wide blue eyes. She wears a tomboyish blue hoodie, some ripped jeans and and a black, brimmed knit cap on her head. She eyes you suspiciously and then looks to the root beer on the floor.

"Who are you?" she asks suspiciously. One of her hands is wrapped around the door frame, but the other is still inside. Some clicking is audible. It's hard to see what she's doing behind the door as the inside seems very dark.

Dax -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

You approach the alleyway with loaded rifle in hand, the cool wind brushing your face. The chopper from before has faded to the distant Selwick Tower over the horizon, and now there's nothing but the sound of your footsteps and those weird moans.

Some shadows are cast around the corner, and slowly but gradually, a shambling walker shuffles his way around the corner. It's about 6 feet tall, wearing ripped clothing and sporting numerous ugly mutations across its torn arms and legs. Its neck lolls lazily to the side and it looks to you, letting out a dumb roar.

Dax Condition - Healthy
Walker 1 Condition - Healthy

Claire -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

You don't get more than a few steps up the ladder before you realize the 80 foot ladder leading to the gigantic crane's cabin is sealed off with a grate and a lock. One that you can't cut off. The crane, anyway, runs on vast amounts of electricity and assuming you even knew how to use it or it worked, it would take the coordination of several people to safely manipulate the containers on the harbor.

Disappointed, you step away and hear some rumbling off in the distance, on the other side of the chain link fence. There's the flash of headlights, and it becomes obvious that there's a Triple Sword Humvee with a 50 cal machine gun up top, manned by a lightly armored soldier and driven by another in the driver's seat. There's also a third in the passenger seat. However, they only roll into the small parking lot on the other side of the chain link fence a good twenty feet behind you, so chances are you'd have time to hide or flee. 2 soldiers step out and begin walking slowly towards the open gate to the actual harbor while the other hangs around in the turret of the Humvee. They all wield M16A3s, and carry knives as well as M9 handguns and a single flash grenade.

Claire Condition - Healthy
TS Soldier 1 Condition - Healthy
TS Soldier 2 Condition - Healthy
TS Soldier 3 Condition - Healthy (relaxing inattentively in the turret)

Mana -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

You find yourself on a solo mission towards the inner city. Skyscrapers, streets clogged with wrecked cars and deadbodies. The works. Typically, you'd be supported by a spotter or merely be backing up a team of soldiers yourself, but today you have been assigned to a recon mission of some potentially interesting targets.

Towards the city square, you're on the 22nd floor of a gigantic, plain looking square shaped skyscraper that once housed a computer software company. But now it's abandoned, papers strewn everywhere, office furniture overturned and the water cooler filled with blood instead of well...water.

The oppressively colored hallways are narrow and plain, with thin carpet on the floor and tons of doors leading into giant, open areas stuffed with cubicles, lounges or private offices. The lights are dead and it's fairly dark as no light shines in save for through the open doors to rooms with windows.

A voice buzzes in your ear:

"Swallow 1-1 this is White Crown. Mission update, standby." a professional though grainy female voice says with zero emotion before pausing. There's a moment of open mic.

"Proceed to floor 39 and establish overlook on northwestern corner of the roof. Await further orders from there, over." the voice commands.

Floor 39 is indeed the top floor, and you are aware from the building plan there should be a stairwell leading all the way up there. It's visible at the far end of the hallway you stand in now, but some blue glowing comes from the interior of a corner office behind you and to your left. Looks like a computer?

Raz -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Your blade impacts the guard with a sickening squelch, cutting off his arm and erupting a grisly spray of blood (severe damage) but unfortunately not killing him for now. He screams loudly, dropping his AK and falling to the ground, but is able to use his radio to sound off:

"Infected!"

The warehouse immediately begins buzzing with activity and you hear the click of locks being sealed. Of course by this time you're already leaping up onto the roof, which as it would seem is far too strong for you to do much damage to. You do manage to punch a sliver in it through which you can see the survivors inside, but you're almost immediately met by a hail of gunfire, most of it hitting the ceiling but a few shots sprouting up and winging you (minor damage).

The Triple Sword vehicles off in the distance appear to pick up on the gunfire, pausing before several Humvees break off and begin to prowl down the streets at a higher pace, aiming to check out the disturbance.

Raz Condition - Slightly Wounded (but in fighting shape)

"White Crown, this is Swallow one one; copies all and is Oscar Mike. Swallow one one out" Mana replied just loud enough to be heard through the microphone.
She was crouched in a dusty room filled with wrecked cubicles and computers, and had been overlooking the area towards the south. Twenty-second floor, more then high enough for a good shot. The thirthy seventh though? "Nothing on the street, probably on the roofs somewhere" She muttered to herself. She stood up from her crouching position and turned around, about to walk to the door until something glowing cough her attention. She tilted her head and popped the lollypop back in her mouth, which she had taken out when her superiors came through. She made a thinking sucking noise with the lolly and her mouth roof for a second while glaring at her watch, before shrugging. "I can peep a little, if i go up on the double afterwards" She figured. Intrigued and curious as always, she moved over to probably one of the only still active screens in the room and turned it counter-clockwise to be able to see any movement coming from the doorway if she would peep over the screen. She tapped the spacebar, and waited for the screensaver to give way to the desktop. "lets see what we've got here~"
Breathe easy, the doctors are about to arrive.

Well, this is a surprise. Alex wasn't expecting such a notorious critic of Sirin and TSS to be so...youthful...or is she really that person? Perhaps the real critic just took her into his care, or something...

"The name's Spade...Alex Spade. I come here looking for information...specifically, on a certain company in the area...one that employs a certain mercenary group." While saying that last part, Alex glances in whatever direction Sirin HQ is from his current position, to hint at his meaning. "I heard one of their biggest critics is here...you could say that I share a common enemy with that critic." He's careful not to let her see the red eyes behind his sunglasses, as there's no telling what she'd do if he gave himself away here.

Aries waited patiently, leaning an arm onto the comfortable bar as she watched Silk finish her drink and gesture to the bartender for another. Aries sat up as Silk waved a hand at the screens, the facade of Sirinbalt melting away to present times. Dark and desolate times..which was infinitely better than living in past dreams, though. She glanced down the windows at the view..the sentry guns, TSS bases..gunshots in the distance..heck, she could've sworn that she had spotted one of the walkers from up here. 20 : 20 vision, you know?
Her attention returned to Silk as she spoke, finally acknowledging her..existence, I suppose? Aries sat up, listening attentively as Silk explained her mission. Which seemed important, judging from Silk's tone..apparently they were trying to push back against the SIV, but they needed biological data that she was going to be sent to collect..Which also meant that she might have to get in direct contact with SI Virus samples..

Aries swallowed nervously. This mission was extremely dangerous for her and she knew it, but would be the only chance she would get to search for Leo..
"No problem..am I going out alone or with an escort?"
The question was one that had to be asked. Aries was pretty damn sure she wasn't going to last too long outside of Golden Throne. Sure, she would have her supplies but she knew..sometimes the Infected were not the only ones that wanted you dead. Survivors could tend to get nasty..
Which always made her wonder why on Earth did TSS never try to evacuate the survivors..?
Sleep unbeknownst to I, this one lives in perpetual need of coffee..

Reaver roars in the sky angered at his delay of his meal. He rubs his wounds knowing he'll heal in a little after consuming a meal. When he sees the Humvees break off towards him, he knows he has to hurry up or leave. Deciding to finish the guard off, he jumps off the roof onto the soldier. He cuts him in the belly, slowly dragging his blade up to the head. He leans over consuming the essentials for him to survive off of before glaring at the enforced wall. He concentrates the consumed energy into his right hand before charging at the wall and trying to break it open.

Aries -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Again, Silk took her precious time forging a response. Her next drink having conveniently arrived, she spent a long while flicking her attention between it and the gloom outside the windows, which for safety reasons were bulletproof. Some part of your mind tells you that the Colonel hardly believes they're an adequate defense, however, judging from the look of distaste of her face as she turns her attention to Gold Throne buzzing around below. There's some loud thwumps distinctive of a chopper, and a black Huey lands on a helipad near the inner rim of the base.

"Not an entire company, unfortunately. Just a few troops." Silk paused to take another sip before she resumed: "Chopper outside's your transport most of the way. Then you walk. They'll explain more later, but I'll just tell you now nobody but me, Selwick and a handful of others can know about this. So expect everyone to think you're just going on routine patrol."

The calm looking bartender gave her a look.

"And Geoffrey."

The gray haired bartender Geoff gave an amused smile and went back to sanitizing glasses. Silk's sweater-vested assistant from before was on the far side of the room poking at his tablet. Appears he didn't hear.

"Alright. Get out of here and get to the helipad. Others will meet you there." Silk nodded to the door. Far below, you can see the raised helipad being tended to by numerous soldiers, who are refueling and otherwise keeping the Huey in tip top shape, including reloading its twin machine guns. On that note, the door hisses open. Suddenly, Silk's eyes light up with remembrance and she pulls a small, sleek cellphone out of her pocket.

"Almost forgot. Take this. Don't ever use it unless someone calls you." she said, handing you the fully-charged cell. As it would seem, its software had been modified to only make and accept calls from several numbers. You'd need some extreme techno-knowledge to restore it to full operating condition. With that, Silk turned back to her drink, obviously not interested in talking further and expecting you to leave.

Aries got: Locked Smartphone

Alex -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Mystery girl listens to your introduction with a cocked eyebrow, obviously not impressed by your innuendo. The demure look on her face quickly hardens into contempt, but it eventually fades with a heavy, even slightly bemused sigh. She vanishes behind the door for a moment and there's a loud series of clicks before it finally swings open, revealing her full figure. In her previously hidden right hand is a Remington 870 shotgun, seeming a little too big for her but clearly loaded with buckshot. She slings it over her shoulder and invites you in, swiftly picking up the crate of root beer as she does.

As you step through, the first you notice is the single-shot grenade launcher hanging from a metal frame near the top left corner of the door, connected to a Goldbergian assembly of strings and pulleys tied to the doorknob that would pull the trigger and literally obliterate anything standing outside by firing its payload through the open crack in the door were it opened too much and the string pulled. Thankfully, it's been disconnected.

The room you stand in is tightly cramped and square shaped, with bland linoleum floors and hastily painted dark blue walls. In one corner, a mattress and some blankets on the floor as a bed, as well as a small open trunk filled with clothes and misc supplies. On the far end of the room, there's a table with a working radio, various disassembled gadgets and a lamp to illuminate it. In the other corner, a fridge for food and water and then an extremely tough looking safe in one corner sealed with magnetic locks. No way you're getting through that. As well, there's various small boxes of manga and other Otaku crap and several colorful wallscrolls of Rurouni Kenshin characters adorning the walls (including a poster of Kenshin half-naked directly on the ceiling above her bed). Lastly, a narrow door leading to behind the counter in the actual store itself.

The girl places the rootbeer in the fridge and looks to you, fixing the brim of her knit cap.

"Take off your glasses. You might be infected and infected have red eyes." she orders you, trying to look tough. Fortunately for her, the tight way she grips her shotgun helps to punctuate her words. She looks suspicious, but you can't really see anything around here that you could take without her consent as it's probably all locked in that safe or in her head.

Dax -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

With three loud cracks, your rifle slings out three supersonic bullets barreling towards the infected. At this close range and with your marksmanship skills, 3 shots are barely necessary to take it down. The first crunches through its eyeball, exploding into its brain and embedding itself there nearly making the infected fall. But a split second later comes the second round, digging into its neck and cutting the spinal cord. It falls to the ground with a *crunch*. The third, as the infected has already fallen, flies past and hits the alley wall with a thwink. The infected bleeds out and is eventually still. No more shuffling can be heard. Guess that's it.

While the infected are too dumb to hear the relative quietness of your shots, it appears you've startled someone else...

The buzz of a human voice through a radio becomes faintly audible ahead. At the next intersection, a Triple Sword Humvee rolls past the corner and pauses, the gunner in the 7.62mm gun turret up top swiveling to his left to face you. The two soldiers manning it consider you momentarily, and then back up before slowly and surely turning down the street, coming literally straight at you cautiously. Not to run you down, it seems, but they are getting closer, the soldier on the turret seeming nervous. As the Humvee was moving quite slow, it's no wonder you didn't hear it before from a distance.

Dax .22 Rifle Ammo: 17 shots left

Dax Condition - Healthy
TSS Soldier 1 Condition - Healthy (eying you suspiciously from the driver's seat)
TSS Soldier 2 Condition - Healthy (seeming on a hair trigger)
TSS Humvee 1 Condition - Undamaged

TSS Status: Cautious

Claire -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

You duck behind the nearest container near the freight, fortunately disguised from the camera's peering lenses. As it would seem, one of the soldiers has a wrist-mounted viewing screen allowing him a direct view through the cameras, meaning that the cameras reveal your location if you're within their view.

The first soldier takes the path left around the block of crates, ending up viewing your right shoulder if he turns the corner. As well, cutting him down before he can turn the corner would surely allow the cam at his back to pick up the event and alert the second soldier, who is a good twenty yards away surveying the side of some containers towards the fence. Thankfully, his vision of you is obstructed by the containers as you are on the sides of the containers facing the water.

The third soldier seems bored in the turret, playing around with it. The Humvee is still running.

Claire Condition - Healthy
TSS Soldier 1 Condition - Healthy (coming very close to Claire)
TSS Soldier 2 Condition - Healthy (scanning around somewhere else)
TSS Soldier 3 Condition - Healthy (still lazy as ever)
TSS Humvee 1 Condition - Undamaged

TSS Status: Cautious

Raz -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

You land on the soldier with a sickening thwunk, that blow enough to stomp the last life out of him but fortunately he's still very much animated enough for you to slip past his armor and cut him apart into a good meal before he finally expires. As you consume most of his body, you feel a rush of energy as the minor gunshot wounds on your body heal, leaving you back in tip top shape.

There's some audible screaming and panic from inside the warehouse, but it begins to quell as the survivors lock down the warehouse. The gate is too thick for you to bust down.

Charging the strong wall leaves some heavy cracks, but though the stone is old it has been refurbished by stronger and newer metal behind it, making it far too strong for you to beat down. Some nervous survivors shoot at where you charge, however, making some "tink" noises as their bullets fail to penetrate.

From the northeast, two TSS Humvees bearing 3 soldiers each (1 in the turret, 1 in the driver's, and 1 in the front passenger's) have rolled around the corner end to end and pause to look at you. There's some yelling, and all of a sudden the twin 7.62mm guns up top open up in a hail of bullets as they charge down the street on the other side of the fence, rolling past you and showering you with numerous bullets. The initial hail is too quick for you to dodge and numerous of the machine gun rounds impact your body (medium damage + medium bleeding) but there's still some time to react.

Raz Condition - Bloodied (bleeding for small-med damage each turn until healed)
TSS Gunner 1 Condition - Healthy (opening fire)
TSS Gunner 2 Condition - Healthy (opening fire as well)
TSS Humvee 1 Condition - Undamaged
TSS Humvee 2 Condition - Undamaged

TSS Status: Alert

Mana -

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Stepping into the bland office, you discern an ancient looking white CRT monitor on top of an equally ancient looking desk, the office chair behind it having been flipped over and the compartments rifled for various office supplies. Ripped papers and misc documents coat the floor, and a smashed motivational picture hangs on the wall.

You step behind the desk and see that the computer is still in working condition on account of the small backup battery installed to keep it running during a power outage. As some survivors have been trying to restore the city's nuclear power plant to the northwest to working order and had mild success (at least, they've been able to get a few minutes or hours of electricity for some parts of the city every few days) it's no wonder this thing's been able to run for so long.

The screensaver vanishes and you find it pulled up to an obsolete mail service still used by this company for correspondence. Besides that, there's an internet browser (not working, unfortunately as internet is loooong gone) and a word processor with various documents with TPS reports. How boring. The wallpaper is a kitten hanging from a clothesline with its front paws with the text "Hang in there!" plastered on the bottom.

The thirty or so emails in the inbox are just generic mass mailers and corporate crap, but one of them in particular, titled "Fwd: Abt CD + Davis"

It was sent from "[email protected]" to "[email protected]" around March of this year:

"M -

I met with DS yesterday and I was not pleased with our 30 or so minute conference. Your father drinks like a fish even at his age and couldn't keep on one topic (sorry for being so crass, but I've got good foundation for it in this case) but more pertinently, he had been asking far too much of me in rewiring those guns after refusing to close numerous software contracts (some from as early as last June) and having badgered me day and night just days earlier to hurry up on the complex logic systems for CD while I'm having to deal with the FBI over some IT guys salami slicing 300k in profits while I wasn't looking.

Okay, I apologize -- that was unprofessional in hindsight and I won't turn this into a rant. I only wanted to give you a quick feel for how negotiating with your father can be. I know how much CD means to him as one of his ambitions and I'll do all I can to assist, but there comes a time when friendship only takes a venture like this so far. He needs to shape up and act like the businessman he was back in the 70's if he wants the full weight of my company's resources behind it.

Talk to him if you could about his recent behavior. He'll listen to you. I don't wish to walk into our next meeting and have reason to slam a fist down on the table.

- AC"

This appears to be a private email between two corporate bigwigs. You are not certain who "M. Selwick" is, but you immediately recognize the writer as Acton Constantine, founder of Teartech. And Teartech as you understand is essentially the SI of the computer industry. They've long specialized in developing complex antivirus and computer security systems for major government contracts, both civil and military under the guidance of their founder and CEO, Constantine himself, who was famous mostly back during the turn of the century for developing the world's first true AI named Michelle.
