Temporal Shift [Fedoras are always in style]

"Enough with the 'mam bullshit." Sandy shouted. The tension was so thick in the room it sizzled along with the oil in the frying pan. Before long food was ready, it was easily the worst meal she ever cooked in her life.

Claire sighs again. She lays her head back on the rock. "I just wish that this day would end..." she says quietly before closing here eyes and falling asleep.

Every time she closed her eyes, the vision of the three men that violated came crashing back to her, her body aching with the violation all over again, terror climbing in her throat. The sounds of the park were still very loud, the shouts of dying people coming across the gardens, and the continual sirens of ambulances blare along the street. Above the park were a pair of search and rescue helicopters, their lights shinning through the area as they illuminated the forms of burned out buildings. All around the park the military set up flood lights, bringing in back up generators to help keep the field hospital running.

Dax ate his meal in silence before finally asking point blank,"Do you believe me?"

Claire opens her eyes almost immediately. She starts to cry. "Why won't this day end!"

She sloppily placed the chicken onto giant porcelain square plates, before sliding it across the island to Dax. "Look, your prints are every on the gun, the gun is tied to the murder of thirty-one people, your foot prints place you at the scene, several broken security cameras as well as your hands in the security station. Whether I think you did it or not will not change my professionalism, if you plead innocent my job is to make a case around that, simple as is."

Mittens came tumbling through the flower garden, his body covered in mud to his neck, tail wagging side to side as he jumped Claire, licking at her face playfully. Whatever she did to scare the dog off before wore off, as it ran to living people for comfort amidst the sounds of dying men. Eugene was shortly behind, with Claire in tow, though the girl wasn't making any eye contact. "Sorry about that, seems he has taken a liking to you" the man said rubbing his hand through his sandy blond hair.

"I didn`t think it would but if you don`t believe me are you really going to try your best to defend me? Look me in the eyes and tell me what you see." He looks her in the eyes as they exude innocense and honesty.

Claire sighs. She pats Mittens a few times then looks away. "I'm going to go. I'll take my chances." she says before standing up.

"I see an idiot turning down a food offer." she said not even looking at him in the eye. "Whether you did it or not is not my problem". she said once more. "So stop trying to play the tough honest guy and eat."

"I`m not playing anything but fine I guess I`ll just shut up and eat." He eats the chicken in front of him truly amazed that no one seems to want to even give him a chance to convince them he`s innocent.

Claire stepped forward, grabbing onto the other Claire's arm. "Just what the hell is your problem"? You want help, but then you don't want help. You ask opinions but then you don't listen to them. You can't just go out there on your own, look what happened last time you did" she said. "The hell do I care, do what you want" she said before walking away. Eugene looked at one, then the other, back to his team mate, "She gets like that, take it easy, good luck in whatever you do" he said walking away. Mittens continued to lick at her face, before being called back, his tail between his legs as he looked back at the girl.

She sat down across from him, eating her own chicken. She chewed it a few times before looking down to the plate, then back to Dax, then his plate. "Ya fuck it, you don't have to eat it, it sucks" she said sliding the plate away from her. It was easily the worse dish she has ever cooked in a long lines of failure, her face in a genuine smile of laughter at the stupidity of the meal.

Claire sighs. "She's right..." she says quietly. She sits back down and closes her eyes.

Dax pushes his own plate away gratefully,"Yeah it`s not great but I thought maybe it wasn`t the best time to say so." He looks down embarrased at how much of a jerk he was being...

She closed her eyes lying down on the rock, the sound of the city continuing around her.

Her brow furrowed a bit as he looked to the guy, "Listen you don't have to feel bad about a shitty meal, you can have the finest house, make a lot of money, but shiity cooking will always be shitty cooking" she laughing at the crappy cooking. "Been going out to so many business dinners, and eating at the cafeteria every day for lunch, I am losing my touch for sure" she said. "I guess it's too late to ask for grill cheese sandwhiches?"

Dax smiled at her," Of course not it`s never too late for grilled cheese! Here I`ll even teach you my recipe for my Cajun grilled cheese if you like spicy. If not I can just do regular." He starts to open the fridge to look for ingredients when he realized he didn`t know where anything was,"Um do you mind helping me get out ingredients?" He asked her sheepishly.

"You really are useless aren't you" she laughed at him. She pressed up against him from behind, reaching around him to help pull out the basic ingredients that make up a grilled cheese sandwich. Her breast pressed up against the back of his shoulders, her fragrant skin coming into contact with his skin, before she pulled away, all the ingredients in her hand. "So work me over your story, all I got is the government's side.

He blushes rather hard as he takes the ingredients from her and takes a new pan out and begins to spread butter on the bread as he waits for the pan to heat up," Well it all started when this man dressed in business attire and a fedora knocked me over in the street about 5 minutes before the disaster. I chased after him into the underground becuase he just seemed so unfazed by everything. When i found him again in the underground he was sitting in the entrance to thattrain and he told me it wasn't a good idea to enter. He dissappeared into the train and I followed, I think you know what I found in the train and I'm not going to relive the memory of finding it like that. When we got into that chamber he told me about these temporal shifts and all this nonsense and the room grew visibly colder as time went on. He then told me it was too late to save this world and before I could stop him he shot himself. If they found the body like they claim then they should be able to tell based on the angle and blood spatter that i didn't shoot him and the hanky next to him should explain why my prints are the only ones on them. Then when I got to the security room it got really cold again and then all the cameras began to go out and as the last cam went out I saw a man dressed like the first break it and I was following his trail when the cops picked me up." By the time he had finished his story her sandwiches were finished and picking up a plate from where she got them before he placed her 2 sandwiches on the plate and cut them in triangles before placing the plate in front of her,"I hope you like them."
