Temporal Shift [Fedoras are always in style]

The fire escape lurches suddenly, dropping into a locked position, forcing his head from side to side. Amidst the chaos Dax can see the pillars of smoke rising from the core of the city, the burnt out cores of buildings, and the carnage that has been brought upon the city. Above a flight of military planes in a V-formation scream across the air at low altitude, the guttural thrust of there jets rattling the glass of the buildings around him.

The teller was bloodied, her fine dress torn and dirty. "I don't know, it happened so suddenly" she sobbed, holding onto the burned form of a child, caressing his hair with one hand. "Please help him" she pleads. The store had display cabinets set against all walls, and an entrance into the mall of in which it was a part of, the metal shutters drawn to a close.

Knowing to take cover behind the guys who know what they are doing, Jason left the man. There was no hope for him, and he looked so peaceful among all the panic. Jason's sleeves were stained with blood when he approached the military men. "What's going on? What's happening?" Jason frantically asked the group, looking at no one in particular.

Dax shouts with alarm and quickly scrambles down from it looking up and around at the carnage spreading around him like a virus,"How could this happen!" He shouts to no one and everyone, his voice laced with anguish at the death and destruction around him.

A tall soldier stepped from the side of the convey, the column of armored vehicles having come to a stop upon the street, as men and material begun to dismount from the various material. He wore the battle fatigues of a soldier, his red beret resting atop shaved head. He extended one strong arm, shoving Jason to the ground, before kicking him with the tip of a steel boot. "Shove off you lolly-gagger" he said to the fallen man.

"What do you want me to do?" Claire asks as she walks closer to the girl.

"Through the ignorance of man" said a person wearing the formal attire of a business suit. He wore a double breasted pin-stripe vest, a fine belt, before giving way to the burburry slacks. He jumped down from the fire escape above Dax, landing to his side, with the click of leather heels, scuffing the sidewalk slightly. "Through the ignorance of man.." he said, before quickly sprinting in the direction of the disaster.

@Claire [Sorry internet problems, made a post about it but then it didn't go through so rewrite it fast, and seemed to have missed details, forgive me my dear.]

"Just take him, do something, anything." she cried hysterically, the tears bubbling from her emerald eyes, rolling down her fair skin, mixing into a rusty brown color from the blood and accumulated grim of her face. "Just take care him, it's all I ask." she said, pleading with the Claire as she drew nearer to the counter.

Jason cringed in pain from the kick. To see his own countries military to treat it's civilians this way... "Hey, leave him alone. He's seriously wounded." Jason stood back up, clutching his rib where the soldier kicked him. He stood tall, hoping to get some respect. He tried again with his question. "What is going on? What happened?"

Dax jumped a little in surprise as the man spoke and recognition sparked in him recognizing parts of his outfit as he sped away. He shouted after him and gave chase desperate for answers,"Wait! What do you mean?!"

Claire scratches her head. "Uh, what am I supposed to do with him?" she asks. She walks over to the girl and rubs her back.

A woman pushed the soldier aside, the origin of the voice that Jason had heard. She had short black hair, cropped to the high cheekbones of her face, tied in a short pony tail away from her face. She looked down the full length of her nose from behind the square framed glasses, her lips drawn into a frown. She brushed passed up to the soldier, taking his arms in hers, checking them up and down, studying the blood.

She was a busty girl, her neckline disappearing down into the confines of a HAZMAT suit. He continued to look down at his arm, her brown eyes narrowing with concentration.

"I really do not have the time to deal with you" the man said, his mustache moving along his upper lip as he spoke. He weaved through the panic, heading back towards the collapse square. He continued to run at a frantic pace. Before coming to stop at the edge of the sink hole, looking deep into the hole. He reached into the breast pocket, producing for it's confine a beaten copper pocket watch, flipping it's face open.

"Bloody hell, maybe you can tell me what's going on? This man's useless." Jason addressed the HAZMAT woman, jerking a thumb over to the soldier who kicked him. Jeeze, how tough is it to find out what the hell's going on around here?

"You are the master of his destiny now." she said, offering up the child to Claire. She groaned from the effort, blood flowing freely from a wooden splinter lodged deep within her leg, bruising already beginning to for around the cut. "All I ask is that you tell him the name of the woman that saved him." she said, tears welling down the length of her face, rolling off her chin to her blouse below. She looked down to the floor, to her leg, before saying. "My name was Janice", she said, wincing in pain as her breaths became shallower and shallower.

Claire grabs the child. "Uh, I'm sorry, but I'm not good with children Janice. Would you like me to find someone who is better with children?" she asks.

Dax tried his best to keep up distinguishing him from the choas around him by his sence of urgency and clear goal in mind and once he caught up he shouted in answer at him,"What could you possibly have to do!? Look around you! The city is falling apart around you and you are checking the time!" His anger flashed at the man`s seeming inablitly to care about all those dying around him and before his eyes.

The soldier planted one more kick, the tip of his shoe hitting him in the shin, before he hopped back onto the side bumper of the armored vehicle. "Useless enough to tell you to piss off if you know what's good for you, you scrub". With that he tapped on the armored glass of the car, the engine roaring back to life, as the car begun to lurch forward. Personnel clambered back onto the vehicle, holding on to the various handles on the outside, while others mounted the roof.

The girl looked up to him once more, having given him the twice over. "Besides the wounds inflicted by our glorious armed forces, you will survive." she said, her face grim as she scanned the area around her. A colleague in a hazmat suit grabbed her from the shoulder, gesturing to one of the governmental vehicles. She nodded to her colleague, before looking back to Jason. "Just stay safe, we don't know what has happened yet.", with that she turned towards the vehicle, ducking into it.

Jason grabbed his shin, hopping around on one foot quite comically. When it felt better, he ran up to the woman before she could leave. "Well... Surely you must have some idea, right? Why all the military, why the HAZMAT's?"

The woman grimaced from the pain, her breathes coming more and more shallow, struggling to oxygenate her blood and brain. "Just do what it takes to ensure his survival, this is no place for children." The sound of shattering glass came crashing down through the store, the floor shaking with the reverberations of a building collapsing across the street. The cloud of debris and dust came flowing through the front door, smoking out the interior of the store, severely limiting vision.
