Like other people said, artists demand high prices when they've already got a name for themselves and there are people out there who would be grateful for their work for any price.
I'm not commenting on your skill; you could be better than any of those other artists, but if you expect to be treated like an equal to them right off the bat you won't get very far.
And in the begin, underselling yourself can have benefits; like other people said, people would be more willing to purchase your work. And if they're buying your art because it's cheaper than other peoples' art, you'll garner yourself some attention. Then when you get more renown and are considered widely to be very good at what you do, you can raise your prices.
