Jon lets out a soft sigh when he sees that the man's just a cut-out, then feels the finger poking his back. He fights off the reflex to strike a combat stance, a habit that his training had carved into his head, and turns around as a normal civilian would.
"Trust me, I know Astrovania when I see it; personal favorite in my arcade fighter list. I main Shirogami, and people say I'm pretty beast with him...though, I think there's still room for improvement. Here, lemme show you." With that said, Jon pops his profile card in (it comes with a monthly subscription fee, so he doesn't have to pay at the door), loads up his personal settings for Shirogami, and navigates to the "X-Burst Gauntlet" mode. It's a special mode, exclusive to the arcade machines, and is considered a high-level challenge. The special settings for it in 1-player mode are:
1. There is only one round per match. Either K.O. your opponent, or Game Over.
2. Your X-Burst gauge (basically like "Devil Trigger" from Devil May Cry) is inactive, but the opponent's gauge fills up twice as fast.
For Jon, this is a good way to test his skills with his Shirogami build, even though it's against the CPU. He starts up the mode, feeds the
song data from his custom soundtrack list into it (another arcade-exclusive feature), and begins match #1.
