Hey sorry guys, I'll try to get the game up as soon as possible. When the comcast guy hooked up the new internet he done screwed up, and I'm getting a 403 error at every corner... The update is done but I'm having issues accessing the filesharing sites (I barely got into LoK after half a dozen 403s)

I am pretty sure that that right there is the problem. I have not heard very many good things about comcast. Can't actually say anything from personal experience though, I live in a small town and the only internet that is available here is the local phone company's service, which is ridiculously priced by the way.

I think it's because people voted on the poll... Though I have no clue, heh!

It is the problem... But my choices are comcast or Century Link... and Comcast (while screwing me over) at least charges my balance correctly...

Either way, the guy who set it up forgot to call tech support, hence it was registering as us trying to "steal" the internet.

Anyways, 0.5 is up! It's a smaller update with a lot of subtle changes, and music added like I said it would be so people get an idea of how it might work out.
With the way votes are going, I have a feeling music will be removed by the next update (which I'm perfectly fine with, smaller file sizes are easier to manage, and I don't have to result to the blue cubes of death.)

Right, I'm curious about people's opinions on everything really. How the story is unfolding, dialogue, who people hate, who people like, who should go die in the fiery pits of hell, etc. While I'm still making it in my "image," this feedback helps me improve the game and make it a lot better than it currently is! I'm no writer... Actually I'm very math-oriented, so I've come to the conclusion that my story might not always seem sound, or might not always be coherent, something might not click, etc. I can try to fix it, but it'll be no good if I don't know what people want me to fix.

EDIT: I'd also like to appologize in advance if the new H-scene seems unrealistic or otherwise badly written. I've never really found Lesbian H-scenes to be very erotic, so my attempts to write them probably convey that a bit... I'll have a good few to write by the time romances start to take a bigger role though, so I'll try to get better!

In terms of choices, I'll give a proper heads up... The system is likely to change as chapters go on. A character's approval might not always increase because you took their side. (sometimes, it's the fact that you worked against them that brings the two of you closer.)

Also, to set a date for the next update... Hrm... Due to the work and overhauls I'll need to do to get the chaos system in place... Lets say late september?

Hey, Grape! I had to move house, but now that I'm back you shan't be free of me.

So I'm playing through the newest version and I reckon I'll have multiple questions or some such, for now though, Is the bath scene gonna lead to anything?
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Y'know with the person spying on you?
I know you won't want to spoil anything or anything like that, y'know? Just, confirmation would be good.

I'll add to this post later, probably.

'Kay, so I can guess who it was. Now I just wonder where the Joanna event goes. It'd be good if there were some things that're just for flavour, but uh, any comment?

GHAAAAAAAAAAAA! The hell is this shit? GRRRRRRRR!

*calms down a little*

The battle against Lucien and Grom is simply TOO luck based. For starters, a single lucky critical hit by Grom takes out Nytarra - she has 200 HP while a lucky critical does around 250 damage. Second, it takes just 3 hits to take her out - one Stunning First and one use of Grom's dual attack, and your main damage dealer is out before the first round of combat is over. And last, but not least, the stun effect is extremely annoying - even if Nytarra does not get taken out right away, if she gets stunned even once it's a huge issue (and Lucien almost always strikes first).

I must have been extremely lucky in the previous version, because it took me just 2 attempts to win the fight. This time even after 10 attempts I can't win.

And to make things even more annoying, we have a cut scene we have to watch every. single. time. before the battle starts. Grrr!

EDIT: Finished the current content. I loved the Jill scene.

I know it's too soon to talk about the end, but I hope one of the possible endings (assuming that there will be more than one) will be a lesbian harem featuring all the pretty girls Nytarra has seduced (Jill, Sen, possibly Joanna, a certain elf, and Jenallia...)

Minor oversight: At the start of the game, after leaving your room you can approach Jill from the right, but she has nothing to say. You must first trigger the conversation where she tells you to stay away from Lendell before you can talk to her. I suggest changing that so that if you approach her from the right and try to talk to her you start the whole "Stay away from Lendell" talk.

MAJOR BUG: Even after starting Chapter 2 you can go back and repeat the final fight of the tournament (or at least start it - I didn't bother finishing it).

It's good to see yah back Lumiere, how was the move?

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Well, I kind of added it for a miniplot that I've since removed... I'll say probably, I just need to figure out how to reimplement it.

Hmm... Joanna's a tough cookie. It's just for flavour, but I was planning on expanding on it a bit. Make it a "cause and effect" thing that the player might or might not encounter near the end of chapter 2. I've been thinking of how I'll work that into the game since both her and Ghlol can travel off campus.

Partially luck, partially the fact that I made Grom a bit stronger... *whistles* I'm thinking if I remove critical hits from Grom, it'll fix that, and possibly lower Lucien's agility a tad bit to balance it out (he's supposed to hit either first or second, but I've found that 90% of the time he hits first.) As for Grom's dual attacks... I just noticed that I somehow switched the priorities between his regular attacks and dual attacks... In any case, sorry about that, I'll be sure to look into it.

Hrm... I didn't think about that. I'll look into possibly adding a "skip to battle" choice.

I didn't really think of players approaching from the side, heh. I'll be sure to fix that.

Hrm... That tournament bug could potentially be an issue... Though I need to remove the whole tourney area in chapter 2, so I think I know an easy solution to that!

I'm debating releasing a 0.51 patch... I kinda want to get straight to work on the next chapter but if I don't get the next chapter done for a while (which looks like the case) than I should address these bugs before a ton of people have downloaded it...

Blocking access to the tournament area is easy since you need to edit just one event.

Currently the game does not record what you say to Joanna. It might be a good idea to change that.

And a suggestion: Split the Audio folder from the rest of the game. Have a download for the Audio only, and another download for the rest. Since you likely won’t be making many changes to the Audio side of things people will need to download it just once. The rest of the game will be much smaller (and thus faster to download).

Decided to try this, as early as it is, and quite enjoyed it. You have made what appears to me to be a very promising game. I ran across no bugs, what there is seems polished which I don't see as often in early development, and I enjoyed the story so far. Altogether I rate this a very impressive piece of work. I did spot a couple spelling errors but I don't remember what they were, next time I play through I'll try to remember to record them so I can let you know. Keep up this quality and I do believe that your game will be fighting to be one of my top 3 favorites (The current three being Harem, Elysium, and Dwarf Fortress).

Now onto a quick character critique: Lucien intrigues me, I look forward to seeing more of him, Jennalia rubs me the wrong way, but I suppose that 500 yrs of imprisonment on top of a conqueror's personality will do that, Sen seems to be quite interesting if you get past the maid outfit, and if Lenden doesn't think about Nytarra a bit then he ain't normal because I would say he likes her. A lot. Also, the dwarf teacher amused me and I feel like the librarian should be slapped. And lest we forget the Central Headmaster, you have a character that I want to kill. Slowly and Painfully.

The move was traumatic like all moves. Still, I gotta admit I had to do it. Boiling in summer, freezing in winter. Not to mention the mould that grew 'cuz of the coldness made me ill constantly. Hopefully this house is better.

I like the sound of this Joanna business. Stuff like that is probably annoying to implement, but I honestly think that a good level of polish like that can encourage people to explore to see what else there is to discover. It, frankly, it makes the game-world more 'alive' to me, it makes it seem more like the world doesn't revolve around the PC. I look forwards to seeing where this goes. I can haz gheydar?

S'wat's the story with the bath scenes adding 1 to sexuality? That part of the system that I think you said was already in-game? The one you were thinking of swapping?

Do you mean the scene with Jill or the scene where you jill off? I'm not funny, am I?

I dunno if a harem will be possible. Grape implied that it'll be possible to anger people by cheating on them, though maybe you'll be able to charm them into an open relationship? Maybe there'll be an ending where you become empress, and then you wipe out all the males/turn the males into women and, y'know, everyone uses magic to reproduce or summat. The empress of a lesbian utopia is totes allowed a harem.

Yep, I was figuring I'd either adjust the tournament area to reflect winter moving in with the fey no longer protecting the area, or simply add in something along the lines of "People are hard at work cleaning up, I should leave it alone" when the player tries to enter.

Yep, I haven't expanded that just yet (It'll get fixed though)

Hmm... I hadn't thought of that since I was convinced it'd cause errors... I might just do that (especially since the community seems split on the music aspect.)

Hey Aetrun, I'm glad you like it, and thanks for playing! I try to make sure each piece is polished before moving onto the next, but I'm never satisfied with my own work so I'm always looking for advice on improvement. I make no promises, but I'll try to ensure the quality remains high.

As for the character critique, seems like they're doing their jobs! I want to comment on it a bit, but I'm trying to prevent spoilers... The only thing I'll state is that you'll see more of Lucien next update. ;)

That stinks with the move, but at least things'll be looking up!

The sexuality is going to be part of the secondary system. As it's currently set up, if a player gets to a certain "skill level" with it, it'll do various things (At first it'll just open up Nytarra's comprehension, EX: "I could potentially use my body to get past that evil duke" but if a player continues to get the skill up, it'll unlock potential "bonus" options in dialogue that regular Nytarra would find unnacceptable, and if it gets too high, Nytarra could potentially become a "sexual deviant"). It's kind of my reaction to the consensus that players wanted a trackable "purity" system.

EDIT: That being said, most romantic scenes won't increase this value (with some exceptions).

I think I'll keep silent on the Harem topic for now.

I leave for a bit and it drops to the second page in my absence, heh.

Alrighty, anyways where was I...

Basically have the majority of the isolated teaching area finished (just wrapping up the boss scene alternatives and it'll be done.)

I couldn't get anything done last weekend, but I'm using some of my free time to pull stuff together.

In terms of an ETA... I'd say at the end of the month, possibly begining of next month assuming this coming weekend isn't too hectic. Maybe earlier but doubtful.

Removed the poll, it remained pretty even so I'll likely put up an audio version and a no audio version (I tried out the audio folder idea, but it only caused errors so I think I know an alternative.)

Will respond to comments, but otherwise I'll leave this thread alone until the next update (I hate doubleposting but figured I should keep up progress)

My plans before releasing the next version:
Finish the rest of the demon mini arc
Finish the "escape" arc (this'll make more sense at a later date)
Finish the area surrounding the institute
Finish the town near the institute (thinking of naming it "Denskeep")
Finish the road outside of Denskeep (Lanae Encounter)
Possibly start on village after this point.

Unfortunately I misjudged my work time I had... By a lot actually. I'm still making progress, but it's very slow progress. This is actually the first time I've checked the forums in over a week, hehe. I'm sorry for not getting it up, but I'm using my free time efficiently to work on it!

I don't want to give an exact date (as I'd hate to break it again) but as soon as I'm done I'll have it out. (After bug testing of course!)

Currently finished with the isolated teaching area, so I'd say about 1/3rd of the way done with the progress I wanted to make. There's enough for a small update at this point, but people seemed more* interested in big updates, so I'm trying to finish half a chapter to a whole chapter at a time.

I can't really think of any direct help that I need, it's mostly just getting over the occasional bout of writer's block so that I can get stuff done at this point. I'd welcome bugtesting, but the project is still small enough that I can spot most bugs with a test or two.

If anyone would like to design a title screen I'd be very grateful, but I hate making requests and I'm fine with using the current one until I can get around to attempting to make one.

As for phoenyxz in regards to Jill:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

There's a bathroom scene in Chapter 2 involving Jill making a romance possible later on down the line.

Glad to hear progress is being made, and as to RL being a time-sink, I know that feeling all to well (military anyone :( ) Thank you for letting us know how things are going, and yes, I do prefer big updates to piecemeal ones, so get it to us whenever you can- waiting may be a bitch, but the result is worth it.

Military, good stuff... I'm actually looking at if I can get on the 2-year ROTC program my junior year in of college.

Alright! A good Sunday's worth of work actually accomplished more than I thought. I managed to complete/partially bugtest the isolated teaching area, and finished the first scene in the
Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Detention Cell arc
"next story arc" (for those who don't want it spoiled)

I'm setting a goal to try and be halfway done with the next piece in the story arc by next Sunday as I don't think that's unreasonable. If I get more done, (and I likely will) awesome! But I figure I should set a minimum goal to try and work towards so a dissapearance like that doesn't occur again.

Out of curiosity*, I'd like some opinions of these "Possible title screens" I threw together using some resized wallpapers.

Image

Image

I realize a Title screen image should be the last thing on my mind, but I feel like the game deserves a "custom" one... Even if by custom I mean resized generic wallpaper with words. Would either of these seem preferable to the current "universal eye" thing I threw up initially?

I will agree that the first one looks the better of the two, however it feels somewhat off to me. I think it may be that the demon there is male, and that doesn't feel right for what we have seen of Jenalia. I realize the title doesn't have to be perfect, but something that indicates Jenalia's influence on our heroine might be more fitting. If I could find a suitable picture to suggest I would, but picture hunting is not something I've ever gotten good at.
