@workhorse: You make an excellent point and the illustration also helped to make your point. I agree, and what we are doing to mitigate clipping that comes from our "rotate the segment" style of animation is use cell shading. Clipping becomes more obvious when you use texture. However, it still happens and can be quite troublesome with cell-shaded animations as well.
We want a consistent look and feel to the game. The "style" we have chosen is cell shading: A base color with 2 or more tones of shading, plus an outline of that color but close to black. Well, here's an example.

Also it's nice what Mr. D is doing and all, and we encourage everyone to contribute, but at this time we prefer to use the one me and Katsu made.
