I keep coming back to these forums to see if a new LOK game is coming, but everybody seems to be doing other projects. :x

Short answer: probably not.

Long answer: the "everybody" you're referring to are a bunch of people who aren't part of the LoK team, people who have never been a part of the development process and likely won't be. The game itself would be made by LoK team members, but there haven't been status updates recently so there's not much to say about it.

I'm technically still part of the team(and by team I mean Ren and I) and I can tell you that nothing has happened to LoK in a bit more than a year and a half. I'm not sure what the status of the base engine is(which is part of the reason why Trunks left) but if Ren ever gets to a point where he's happy about it and wants to get a real team back together then I'll be right back to it.

Right now you can call it temporarily dead. . . . . . . Though really anyone could make their own version if they wanted to. It's just that, why make LoK when you can make your own game?

Or to add onto the last bit of Eggplants post, why make your own LOK game when we already got Gorepete working on one. *rimshot*

I have a project going on. Check out Terra's mega update in creative corner. Tell me ur thoughts on it when ur there. I need artists bad, though. My shit is inferior to a third grader's art. I can animate and code, too. So hit me up if u guys want my work or wanna offer a hand.

I like the outcomes of Krystal Version G made by Gorepete. Although I like to explore more (like the original game). Since he was kind enough to release the source, people can create more content for it. He uses AS3 code and the game would great if we could have like 50 more scenes (I am not being exaggerate, its plenty possible) . Also, scenes that we could 'ask' for it (increasing Krystal libido and 'whoreness') ;)

If we ever see a complete game, aside from Gorepetes, it will almost certainly be because one or two guys knuckled down and made it single-handedly. The story of LoK is almost exactly the same as the story of the 40K strategy fan game Chapter Master on the roleplaying and geekery board of 4chan, and since I need to fill out my 12 posts so I can stop annoying the mods by filling up their Que with my post edits, I'll just Necro this thread to give anyone who cares my personal take on the two, and why Chapter Master succeeded where LoK has, so far, failed:

The basic formula is the same: a fan project starts, people are interested, ideas sketched out, plans made. Users see something related to the game that they like, decide to join up and help out, introduce themselves and their skills on the forums, and then drift away and never actually accomplish much of anything, either due to lack of spare time (Work/Studies/Family Issues) or lack of will to actually learn coding. At first it would seem like LoK was far more likely to develop into a finished project: Flash is easier for new contributors to learn than any of the programming languages proposed for CM and far, far less complex in overall execution, the demographic (Consumers of furry porn and/or pornographic webgames) far wider on the internet than the relatively smaller pool Warhammer 40K Marine fans, and it started off with a demo AND a usable engine to boot, bringing in greater interest and allowing interested users to more easily create their own side projects. So what went wrong?

Several things, actually. First off, that early engine may actually have hurt development of the main game, with so many splitting off to create their own (In all but one case abandoned) projects, but that's debatable. The three main differences, however, were the CM fanbase being not only more technically inclined, but more dedicated, operating primarily out of a high-traffic imageboard host to a thousand other discussions on topics with a high chance of overlapping interests to continuously bring in fresh recruits at a much higher rate, and above all, that lone stalwart Knight that actually sees the project through with skill and dedication. Often called "The Toady", after Toady, the creator of the ridiculously complicated and in-depth Dwarf Fortress, this individual, or individuals if the project is truly lucky, is key to producing something that resembles a finished product, and lack of incentive in the form of pay makes this individually rare indeed.

In the end, LoK and CM took radically different paths: LoK started with a single dedicated programmer to run things and do work himself, who then left his project in the hands of successors who ultimately proved unworthy. CM started out as little more than a "Wouldn't this be cool, guys?" thread, saw several abortive attempts at making a real game that never got beyond bad menu interfaces before a Codemarine named Duke took it upon himself to go it alone, giving the internet an actually playable game. The LoK boards saw something very similar with Gorepete, an actually skilled programmer and artist who brought his own, altered version of the game to completion. Unless another Toady of his caliber arises, we will most likely never see the main LoK game completed.

I believe with the help of Patreon and enough patrons - maybe from this community - a new version of LoK could happen. It seems to me the lack of development is because of all the work poured on far to few people without any reward. With money you could afford work and tools (Flash is really expensive).

That's the problem and solution at the same time. We have some quite talented people around here, but being realist at some extent, most of them have jobs and not much time, so saying that they would never accomplish anything without proper financial support is not wrong at all. But "achieving" the proper finnacial support isn't something easy to acomplish, hence' the lack of people interested.

Real fine actually. With not a single goddamn finished project on these forums (that I know of) until GorePeteRepeat showed up. Now I think he's finished 5 games and right now he is going for the 6th one.

The Mario is Missing project is now "Peach's Untold Tale" and it's an ongoing outstanding piece of art courtesy of IvanAedler.

Corta is adding his magical spark to various random flash games.

I'm no one of particular importance. Well i'm a translator of the Simbro game but meh...

Anyways, welcome back! :D

>D Cool and thanks. GoRepeat and Corta had always been beyond the time bonds that fether the indie developers, but five games already? Dope! Ill make sure to check them all later. It's nice to be back! :D

And do*not diminish yourself. Translations are not easy! :D
