Morality System (RE: Speaking Krystal)

NOTE: I wanted to present one of my ideas, but the original thread was crammed with argument and debate several subjects.

I believe one of the strongest elements of the silent protagonist is allowing the audience to create their own vision of who the real characters. The gaming market has recently become obsessed with the good/evil moral choice system and it has expanded to honest/dishonest, pure/corrupt and with each system gameplay is drastically effected. The project could become much stronger with the player's decisions and interactions building upon some manner of tiered morality meter working on extremes of purity and depravity. The original thread presented several extremes which could be used to provide more traditional multiple endings, but people are often even more drawn in when reputation or morality can be seen during gameplay. Just about everything from the walking animations to the encounter animations could be tweaked to show the personality of the protagonist. The extremes of the meter could have Krystal move modestly or sensually, and could be made to be resistant or proactive during encounters. She could have some interactions which would not be available without a certain depravity level (seduction) or purity level (bribes and escape) which would effect the world around her. She could even receive rewards which would raise or lower the level instantly (sexy outfits, purity trinkets). This comes across as an extremely ambitious project and while I am not very technologically savvy, I just needed to present my idea.

Purity/Depravity

1. Innocent - Krystal cannot stand her situation, is much more reluctant about sex and often struggles during her various encounters with her captors. The encounter scenes would be much more aggressive on part of the opposition and she would be pushing back against them in the attempt to escape. She would be much more withdrawn during the scenes where she voluntarily gives herself to the warriors and would not just drop down on her knees and give one a blowjob. Her vocals would be pained and sorrowful whenever she is being raped and they would be more neutral during voluntary encounters.

2. Default/Neutral – Krystal accepts her present situation and is willing to do whatever necessary to make her escape. The enslaved princess would show zero resistance during her encounters, but would probably not be very proactive during many of them. Her vocal recordings could be a much more common collection of sexual sounds, a mixture of strained moaning and occasional pleasure.

3. Slutty – Krystal accepts her current situation and casually approaches sex with much more shameless wanton to the point one might doubt that she even has escape on her mind. She would be much more proactive during some of the encounters and perform actions beyond the neutral animation such as touching herself. Her vocals would obviously require much more sensual and wanton recordings to better show how much she is drawn into the moment.

Morality Choices

Dialogue Choices – It is a traditional element that silent protagonists demonstrate their personality during the rare instances that they utter words or perform sudden actions. There will be choices to make which could be meaningless or monumental depending on the context, but each of them will have an effect on the morality system and some can even reap rewards. It is suggested players consider the context before jumping at the extreme of their choice.

Bribe/Seduce – There are going to be many areas in the Sharpclaw Kingdom where posted guardsmen have been ordered to protect valuable items locked in certain rooms and are not willing to just stand down. There are just two ways to garner the sympathy of one of these predators and those would be their cocks and their wallets. Both of these context driven actions would present different animations and both would have a significant impact on the morality meter. An innocent vixen would choose to bribe the guard using her accumulated experience as currency in order to gain access to the special room. However, she would run the risk of the guard following her in and demanding sex once she has picked up can be found within which just might be nothing. A more sensual vixen would use her growing reputation to seduce the guard into escorting her into the room so they can have some good nasty sex. Once inside, she can choose to keep her end of the bargain or knock him out before retrieving the item. However, there is always the chance that more guards could suddenly arrive and forcefully gang rape her without experience. The chances for the penalty can be lowered using certain items.

Good/Bad – The player might come across some side quests which can be performed where they will be presented with some manner of decision to make which will have an effect on said quest. For example, some random female Sharpclaw manages to lose some random piece of precious jewelry as video game NPCs and Tolkien characters so often manage to do. Should you come across the missing amulet and collect it, you discover it is a magical heirloom which allows their wearers to gain more experience from the cum of their lovers. It is at this point that Krystal has one chance to make her decision. She can either return the amulet to receive a lesser reward or she can claim it for her own and progress through the game with more experience.

Bonus Scenes – It is too often in most games where morality would effect certain characters and I believe it should be no different for the various boss characters encountered in this game. For example, we are going to assume that General Scales has been hearing much about the extreme reputation of the enslaved vixen princess. As a seductress, General Scales would be too impressed to be pleased with just a blowjob and proceed to give her a good hard fucking and subsequent cum shower on the floor. As an innocent, General Scales would be driven to maximize her constant humiliation by knocking her to the ground and fucking her from behind while holding her tail and taunting her viciously. They were once sworn enemies after all.

Conversation Example - Female Sharpclaw (Your Nurse)
1. "Your warriors are not gonna make a trophy out of me!" ================================= Krystal receives innocent points + Random Guard comes in and rapes her.
2. "You're gonna regret this once my friends come for me!" ================================= Krystal receives no points.
3. "I'll do just about anything to get out of here... not that it's my choice." ==================== Krystal receives no points.
4. "Mmmm... I was much more worried your people wanted to eat me in another way." ========== Krystal receives slutty points + Female Sharpclaw has sex with her.

Conversation Example - Female Sharpclaw Bartender "You'd best get started sweetie! Our big hard boys are just gonna love filling your cute little butt!"
1. "Gross! You're disgusting!" ================================================= Krystal receives innocent points.
2. "So every warrior comes down to the local bar looking to get some? Typical." ======= Krystal receives no points + A Bar Pass (Purchase usable items with sexperience)
3. "Then you're gonna have to give me a really strong drink." ====================== Krystal receives no points + A Bar Pass + "Passion Brandy" (100 sexperience points)
4. "Really? I don't suppose you could point a few of them out to me." ================ Krystal receives slutty points.

The sheer amount of words is amazing. But how you managed to make it informative, without a single character of information los, stuns me. However, instead of merely swallowing 'some', she could do the whole lot, discovering that this is too much for her muzzle's containment space. Spilling it, that is. Also, the drench scene, for neutral I wouldn't let her touch herself, but for slutty...again, all stops pulled out, all fingers everywhere.

The majority of my post was my original response to the "Speaking Krystal" thread and I just surprised when it turned out to be more than just another response.

The varying animations were something which came to me while going on about how pureness/sluttiness could effect gameplay. The encounter examples were really just off the top of my head and I wanted to keep it pretty generic because my netbook does not have the content viewer to ensure I was remembering correctly. I wanted to ensure some people were actually interested before I began popping up extensive descriptions on how Krystal should be fucked silly by the lizardmen. There have been enough times when people have overlooked because they were too lazy to read.

I removed the several animation examples which were present in my opening post to check them out, to ensure some of the variation would be simple and maybe even get some suggestions on how to make it happen. I also want to see what people make of the idea before tossing up too much information at once. I cannot make good quality artwork beyond the written word, so it is really up to the team.

I might have removed my examples too soon... I just checked them out in my decompiler and found some of my varying animations could be done easily with existing material.

"The Handjob Scene"
1. Purity - The innocent vixen could remain standing next to the SharpClaw, she would not drop to her knees on her own. The Sharpclaw could snatch her wrist and make her beat him off while she is trying to keep away. The animation would be shorter and the cum would end up splattering on her upper legs. Of course, the Sharpclaw could always pull her down and cum in her face or something.
2. Neutral - The accepting vixen current animation where she is on her knees and using both hands rather dramatically would be acceptable.
3. Slutty - Krystal's animation could just be similar to the current one. She could slurp his cock in the first part where it is put up against face. She could throw in some use of her tongue work while jerking him off in the second part. She could be pumping him with much more earnest getting him to climax in the third part.

"The Blowjob Scene"
1. Purity - An innocent Krystal would be very reluctant to suck on the cock which would cause the drunken Sharpclaw reach out for her head and makes her suck him.
2. Neutral - You guessed it. Krystal's current animation where she just drops to her knees and goes at it.
3. Slutty - Krystal could have a short scene beating him off before sucking him off and maybe swallow some before getting cum on her face.

Encounter Example 03 - "Table Fuck scene"
1. Purity - Krystal is very resistant to being thrown on the table. She would not be jacking off the one she is blowing and would probably be pushing back against the one fucking her breasts.
2. Neutral - You guessed it once more! Krystal's current animation without even one little change.
3. Slutty - Krystal's animation could be just like the current one, except maybe wrap her spare hand around the second cock or grab her breasts. You cannot just have a second hand doing nothing, make it do something slutty!

"The Sacrifice Scene"
1. Purity - Krystal comes up to the enormous tyrannosaurus and attempts to run away before tripping onto all fours and then the massive monster proceeds to grind himself to climax on her backside. Some animations of Krystal could easily be recycled from the "Anal Rape" scene added to version 0.2.
2. Neutral - You know the current animation. Krystal drops down onto her back and allows the monster to blow himself all over her.
3. Slutty - Krystal drops down onto her back and allows the monster to brow himself all over her, all the while wrapping her arms and legs around his meat and licking at the tip. That is the slutty version, completely and utterly shameless.

"The Drenched Scene" - Thank You, DemonFiren!
1. Purity - The innocent little vixen would need to be restrained and it could be accomplished by having the Sharpclaw pin her down with one of his feet. Krystal would hold her arms and hands up over her face during the climax scene. Obviously, it would decrease the amount on getting on her hair and face.
2. Neutral - The neutral animation would require some minor tweaking of the original. Surprised? Krystal would accept the Sharpclaw beating off and then cumming all over her body, but as DemonFiren pointed out, she would not go to the extent of touching herself, fluffing her breasts or hanging her tongue out in the air.
3. Slutty - The slutty animation could use a tweaked version of the original scene. Why tweaked? Adjust the right hand so people know she is touching her upper thigh.

In the event someone reading the thread approves and has some variations of their own in their mind, they are free to make some suggestions. Just please keep it relevant to existing scenes.

first off i want to say you did a great job with thinking this out. Both because, like i said, the multiple endings/changing actions topic needed to be seperate from the krystal speaking thread, even if the two are closely related. Also you gave your idea very clearly.

With how you describe this I like it (the dialog examples could be tweaked but you said that they were just off the top of your head).

Now to get down to the honest truth of the matter. We've talked about this sort of thing in the developers area and i've included some ideas to work with this, as i'm thinking i want to go back and revise the script more so when you pick an option you know what you are contributing towards, just a little note saying "+innocent"/"+neutral"/"+slutty" so you know exacally what you contribute towards. I don't think we'll go the full route with 5 options if we do this at all, (and judging form your scene examples post you realize 3 might be the better choice than 5) i've included some stuff in my script to experiment with this idea. I butted heads with that guy that made the thread a lot but i didn't totally disregard what he said.

I'm not a programmer, so i couldn't tell you how difficult a moral system would be to include. I also have some concerns that with it being the latest craze in games maybe it's getting a little worn out? Anyways i like the idea of how her walking movement, and access to scenes would be allowed/restricted as a way of showing the results you are getting from the choices you make. Right now with the current build we won't see much results but we can throw the idea around in there to see how it works early on. Hopefully Ren will drop by and respond to this since he can tell you how difficult or easy a moral system would be, for writing on the storyboard side it won't be too bad.

just know that not every action will involve a choice. There's parts of the story where it just doesn't make sense to have those choices and some areas where it's perfect to put them in. Also are you thinking it would be possible to still select innocent choices after you've picked a lot of slutty choices and vice versa?

I remember considering just three examples, but really do love when there is some moderate middle ground between neutral and any given extreme. The game would probably work just fine between with neutral and the two extremes. It would allow the player to consider how deeply either side reflects Krystal's personality. I've done some script modding on some video games and in morality games, certain scripts run depending on which extreme is more prominent. However, I've never worked on any original scripting, so I cannot even assume that your own script is the same way.

I was really considering most of what was present in the "Speaking Krystal" thread and assume there would be parts of the storyline which must be done. The original concept of the "sluttiness meter" would be how Krystal presents herself during conversation and her own interactions with the world. In retrospect, I believe having those moral choices [bribe and seduce] could be used to raise their respective meter. A sluttier vixen would just give herself over while an innocent one would rather part with some experience points. I suppose there is no reason that Krystal could suddenly lean toward the opposite extreme during gameplay.

The morality system would probably be better off with just the two extremes. Is there really much demand for the Neutral choice? But rather than having to make choices before each scene, a single choice could be presented during the beginning of the game: Slutty or Innocent? And a linear path would be taken depending on the choice. And as Trunks said, it wouldn't really make sense to change from slutty to innocent, but I suppose it would kinda make sense to go from innocent to slutty. Idk, it's really up to the producers whether or not to utilize this system or to just go for a linear storyline without choices.

Your thought process is definitely on par with the team's--we're working on something quite similar at the moment. Your input will definitely help with our current agenda, and the detail you've given has definitely helped us understand what you're looking for. We'll probably not involve every single situation with a choice, but I can say that there will be a slight abundance of them. Bribery and seduction was something I've definitely taken into context, yet we've never really discussed it. Thanks for the multitude of ideas, they'll really come in handy. actually i like the idea of being able to go form innocent to slutty or slutty to innocent. neutral is nice if you don't want to play either side, in a realistic sense neutral would be the 'default' path i think, being exposed to all this sex so she's not really innocent any more, but not letting it consume her either. And (at the risk of sounding sexist) shouldn't she be allowed to change her mind about how she feels about sex whenever she wants in the game? j/k but seriously locking the players into one path at the start of the game really defeats the point of the moral choice system.

I'm currently reworking the system to be much simpler and was done with it when FUCKING WINDOWS 7 DECIDED TO UPDATE!! Goddamn it!!

I should have it up before long and I believe it would be simpler for everyone on the development team.

Well about the moral choice system, I was thinking along the lines you did Trunks about adding the +1 Innocent, Neutral, or Slutty, That at the beginning you get a little button at the bottom left hand corner that tells you your Standing in Morality. +1 Innocent will take away 2 from Slutty and +1 Neutral take away 1 and Vice-versa. The little button could branch off to become your Inventory as well when you obtain it.

What do you think?

it would be easier to implement with a single sliding scale( -10 0 +10 ) at -5 you start becoming a slut... from -4 to +4 you are neutral at +5 you become innocent... this would allow you to forgive some mistaken choices but the more you stray from one extrema the harder it will be to get back to the other... slutty should be a -1, innocent should be a +1 neutral should be 0... nether taking or adding to the scale.

HolyPaladin and Magnusadder seem to have the same good idea to make the "depravity system" simpler.

It really would be simpler for it to be a point system and it would make the script much more elementary. I support that system should encompass twenty or thirty points so switching moralities would not require much dedication. I would imagine that certain choices would be "sluttier" or "purer" than others of the same extreme.

hmmm.... if there will be alternant endings depending on whether krystal's a slut, the opposite and wants to have sex as little as possible, or just plain neutral, i'm just going to have to play the game 3 times XD

the simpler something is from coding to mechanics the less bugs there will be introduced into the system hence sticking to the age old advice of "keep it simple stupid"... it should have enough points on ether side so as not force a choice but at the same time make the player "chose" an out come... in other words if you played a slut the entire game, there is no way you'll end up a schoolgirl at the end, and verse visa, if you play the nun, your not going to come out Slutty Mc.Mufucken if you know what i mean

Obviously, there are not going to be enough choices to turn you from depraved to pristine.

However, a complete morality switch could be possible up to around the middle of the game, which I suspect will be many, many frames longer than the current version.

yeah this point system was sort of what i mentioned back in the speaking krystal thread in regards to ending, only there it was adding points to which ending you'd get. the positive to negitive number scale is better for this task since we are talking about being able to see the diffrences in game. Man i wonder if the original poster of the speaking krystal/mutliple endings thread is reading this, because in a way I'm agreeing with his ideas now, however they are much simpler and easier to manage with how OmegaXIII is suggesting them, than how he had them laid out.
