Would you like a speaking Krystal ?

Discussion about Legend of Krystal. For now this also includes any feature-requests or other ideas.

Must we add written lines for the Krystal character ?

Yes. By all means. And multiple choices too so that we can choose how the character will change through the story.

Bah, too much text!

Can we get back to the issue of whether Krystal should have dialogue options, rather than the etiquette of making polls or whatever we got onto. Sure the poll might not be perfectly balanced, but then the results of the poll aren't going to decide directly what the official releases will look like; that one's up to the LoK team :)

not to be a kiss ass but listen to this man!

I have not seen Ren get angry with us yet and I'd like to keep it that way.

So let's not worry about the endings bit right now, take this one topic at a time. I think it's safe to say I'll be given krystal a few lines, at the very least to try it out and see how it works in verson 0.3 but i'm not going to go crazy with additional text boxes.

As a maybe voter, I'd just like to point out that it wasn't really clear /why/ Krystal would have lines. Hence my uncertainty on if she /should/ have lines.

the theory is it gives her more personality to talk, vs us giving her our own idea of a personality through our imaginaton.

The reason I felt she would have lines would be a more creative way to affect game content. As I mentioned before, she would have a dialogue choice in game regarding whether or not she wanted to be involved with a fetish. The players selection would therefore affect what they see after that choice. I just thought it was more imaginative than just having an options menu. Obviously, something like this wouldn't be implemented til much later in the development of LoK, but I think it has potential.

... Of course I think that! I THOUGHT OF IT! :lol:

Well the two most obvious reasons, and I believe both have been mentioned already, is anywhere that a choice occurs, they can be phrased as dialogue by Krystal, which she may elaborate upon once you choose (if it makes sense to, if we do this we would avoid over-long conversations).
The other is as hints or reminders, for example if you try to leave an area but have something to do there first.

Any dialogue that makes it in will likely be short and as Trunks says just to add a bit of character, or to provide choice, this ain't no text adventure! That said I love Zork, but it isn't quite as erotic :)

Oh, yes. Also, it has a bit better graphics then Zork. The text given to Krystal by our Supreme Retired Animator (who? C'mon, that's a freebie) while, uhm, facing Scales in Bowser's Castle is the utmost accepteble to me. One or two clicks should be enough, right?

Quite true, that's exactly what I was hoping for. Text /mostly/ to guide if optional things happen (reliably allowing fearful dudes to avoid those things they whine about while letting the rest of us enjoy the full game); and things that are sort of brief to help out otherwise.

As an example, while in V0.2 the bar maiden and the lizard girl in the hut are helpful for first time players; they're really quite long-winded if you've already got an idea what's happening; lacking a way of breaking out of the text-script that actually becomes quite a detraction instead of a benefit.

Off-topicness aside, I believe that choice-driven storylines are probably going to come later in development. Such as, just as right now we have a very linear path, it's easy to imagine different ways that krystal might be able to leave the starting area. Such as, trying to repair her ship. She may have to try to 'bargain' her way to obtaining parts. Or perhaps trying to leave by force somehow. Maybe going through a secret underground room by the lake? ;)

Actually, this kinda could tie in with another idea that was brought up in the: Something a little different thread. That idea being corruption. Finding ways out of the starting area that include much less 'performing' could cause less corruption and such. However, some acts such as 'selling' yourself for parts to fix your ship may increase your corruption.

At this point i'm just spit balling things that have just now come to mind. I'll think about it some more later. It's an idea though.

I like to say that I find porn more erotic to it with some story and character to it, even if its just a small fracture compared to the porn itself. The porn comics I like to read have some story to them, and while the dialog is not dominant, it help you to identify the characters. And the written dialogs in the game itself is really enjoyable and helps to build up the atmosphere.

I'd prefer some RPG elements to the game, with multiple dialogue choices that have an effect on the game. However, during the sex scenes I find that to much "cheesy" talk can ruin the mood.

for diologue i can think up afew lines for krystal, but i'd have to have the scenario first, but then again i can't always do it so just consider this a unreliable resourse at best.
i only give base ideas, ones that can be built off of, not ones with an end in sight. so don't ask me to give further detail on my ideas.

it's ok nebrose, i've written up some stuff, i'm the main guy on storyboard and all so i better know how to write up some decent dialog. I can't say if anything will stay for sure, there's going to be a lot of trial and error to see what people do and don't like.

I came up with my own ideas for expanding the concept of having a speaking Krystal, but really didn't want to take the thread off topic. It is the new thread about adding some kind of "Morality System"

I have written some erotic literature in recent years and while I am proficient at creating unique dialogue, I have been informed my greatest strength is description and storytelling. There are sure to be some instances (such as the original example of being forced to swallow) which would probably require short paragraphs of the experience Krystal going to be reacting to. I am just offering my pen (or rather, keyboard) in the event the team needs another writer aboard.

I agree. It's a legitimate issue and one that the authors would have to think about carefully before addressing, or even implementing this system at all.
