Fantastic game gore. Fuck all them who say it's too hard. They just hate you for making them work for their porn.
That said, the game is entirely beatable, even *gasp* easy *gasp again*. That is providing that your keystrokes don't bug up. It's largely a flash limitation, the reason it's beatable is that some of the enemies have a very recognizable mechanic that you need to use and exploit in order to beat them. The reason I say some is that the rest have more than one. That said, below is the full guide to beating every single enemy in the game, complete with every mechanic I have tried and thought of, described as best I can. Reading this will not mean that you'll win every fight on the first try, as it will take you a few shots to get down the keystrokes and timing. However, these mechanics are tried and true. They do work.
I've left out all story related stuff. This approaches enemy types only.
Gorgers:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
The first enemy that you encounter is the gorger. They indicate their attacks by lowering their heads and warming-up "cartoon-style" before they charge. After they charge, they can be blocked with the shield or you can jump over their head. They'll often stand still for long periods of time though, so your best approach is to *approach* them and hit them with a sharp object. After they're damaged, they'll run through you and stop a short distance away. The distance used is the distance from Eva. So it actually helps to run though them before turning around for your next attack. You'll have to defeat the elite gorger twice in order to seduce him, unless you farm the first gorger to the point where you can do it one shot.
When faced with multiple gorgers, your opening strategy changes a little, but then you can fall into the same pattern. Your goal is to keep all the gorgers on one side of you so that you can hit them all simultaneously. The mechanic to exploit here is that they all stop a short distance away, and that distance is fixed. You can dash, attack, attack+dash or attack+dash+attack (for maximum range) through any number of gorgers and then position yourself so that they all stand on top of each other allowing you to drop them all in one fell swoop.
That's pretty much the simplest way of taking down gorgers, though you can use any multitude of skills to help you with this. The reward for seducing the elite gorger is dash. It's easily the most important skill in the game. He spawns in the third room of the prologue, so don't miss him.
Chieftain: (Gorger chief, chiefy, or big blue dude with magic powerz)
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
This boss is really quite a pushover. The sequence is very straightforward and it's basically the only way to do it. Timing is crucial. When he starts charging the blue balls, you need to start blocking at any time between when he's halfway done charging and when the ball hits you. If you see it in the air, now is the time, but when you get the timing down, you'll find you can start blocking a lot earlier to make up for any lag or coordination problems you may be having. When he jumps, wait for the target to appear on the ground, then step back (or forward) a very short distance. If you're standing outside of the target, you're pretty much safe regardless of where the slam animation indicates that you should be taking damage. You can squeeze in two hits in this time. Rinse and repeat.
If you're having trouble with him, try training to level 3 by grinding the two gorgers outside his lair and buying empower from the soul core. If you get to the maximum level possible from killing gorgers you can actually seduce him before he heals.
I won't spoil the reward since you can't miss it.
Lots of people have been asking about this one.
Wasps:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
The wasps have two attacks. For the first one, they lift off the ground and fire 3 energy balls at you. These can be blocked with the shield or dodged with dash. Blocking is definitely the most sure-fire way of avoiding damage, but for times when you need to remain moving, dash is also an option. The second attack is their slash attack. This cannot be blocked but can be dodged with dash. Alternatively you can just not stand in it. After they fire their energy balls, they will move toward you and attempt to hit you with slash twice before launching again. This is reset when they take damage. They can be hit in the air with an air-dash but only at about half-way up. Then they become invulnerable. After they take damage they will counter with a strike. There are two main tactics for defeating the wasps. Both are fairly straight-forward and once you get them down you can pull them off with regularity.
1. The first tactic is an "in and out" style of fighting that requires you to know the range of your weapon. You simply hit the wasp with a normal attack at close to the maximum range of your sword, run away from her a short distance and then run back in and hit her again before she can lift off the ground for her ranged attack. Probably the easier of the two methods. If you're having trouble, jumping will get you out of range from any point in strikes range.
2. The second tactic is to attack and then dash though them out of range of their counter. You have to be standing right next to them and then just attack+dash to safety. Useful against large numbers of wasps.
When fighting very large numbers of wasps, like the 4 in the arena, it helps to stay airborne as much as possible. You can jump right after an attack+dash+attack sequence to escape all counters and then dash back through them on your way back down. Then briefly touch down and jump again, and this process can be repeated ad infinitum. Try and use your air-dash as close to the ground as possible while still hitting the wasps. It's basically the only way I've found to take down all four of them.
Note: In the 4th and 6th rooms of chapter 1 (before the pub and next to the arena, respectively) you'll feel like you can fight an infinite number of wasps if you stick around. You don't have to stick around, but you should. Not only will you gain valuable souls, but after about 7-8 wasps an elite will drop. Successfully seducing the elite will grant you the ability "honey pot" which can be used to regenerate your health. It's easily the second most useful ability of the game and the most useful, so be sure not to miss it and be sure to always have it equipped.
Stingers:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
The stingers are one of the harder bosses to get the hang of but ridiculously easy once you get the technique down. Eva basically tells you how to defeat them, but the tactic is to block the guard (stunning him) and then bash his skull in with a sword. It's highly recommended to use attack+dash in order to dodge the energy ball and slime no doubt heading your way, but this can be made easier by moving as much as possible between when the wasps come out of warp and when you need to block the guard. The slime will always drop straight down and the warp ball will be heading at your feet wherever you're standing when they come out of warp. There's really no reliable way to tell which will do which, so dashing is the preferred way to avoid all damage. When they group in the top, move underneath them. This is a good time to use honey pot as you have enough time to recover all your health before they go back into attack mode.
It's an unavoidable fight, so no reward spoilers here.
Bridgette:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
Bridgette is no pushover. The name of the game here is survival and dodging. If you survive long enough, your allies will provide your attack window. As such, she cannot be damaged by your weapons and has no health bar. She has three attacks that you will have to learn to dodge.
For the first attack she launches waves of energy from alternating directions at different heights. The pattern is simple. I'm not going to mention which sides the attacks come from because it's really not all that important. The important part is that they come low, high, low, high, low. If you stand in the middle and jump as she fires the low shots, you'll be fine. This is easily the hardest to dodge as the timing leaves little room for error. You'll know this attack is coming because she'll appear in the lower right hand corner.
The second attack she fires a laser that proceeds across the bottom of the screen from right to left and halfway up the left hand side of the screen, and then slowly fades out. You'll know this attack is coming because she will spawn halfway up the right hand side of the screen. There are two ways to deal with it:
1. You can stand on the left hand side of the screen (out of range of the damaging wall of course, but try and stand as close as you can) and wait until the beam is 2/3 of the way across the screen. Then jump. At the top of your jump, block in the air. The beam will have faded by the time you come down.
2. You can dash through the beam. This is easier toward the right hand side of the screen as the beam is more vertical there. It's recommended that you air-dash in order to dash faster. You should launch at about a 1/3 of the way from the right to the left of the screen so that you don't hit the wall. Maybe half, somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 is best.
The final attack is a one shot. If you get caught by this attack, you will get a game over UNLESS it is her final attack before the ambush. You can actually survive the thing then, but that may have been patched since I was last able to try it. Anyways, she appears in the middle top of the screen and launches chains toward the floor. Chains will then erupt from the floor and try an grab the player. Their location will be illuminated. Once she gets started, you will know where the next 3 chains will launch, but this information isn't really useful since they come so fast. There's two ways of dealing with this attack.
1. Stay airborne. If you alternate air-blocks and air-dashes, you can stay airborne and not get caught throughout the entire duration. If you feel you're too low, feel free to touch down and jump again. The imperative here is dodging after the block. Be sure to key in the dash before your block ends.
2. The second way is simpler, but riskier. All you do is run back and forth and jump. You should jump about when you're about 1/4 from the edge of the screen. When you're halfway in the air, press the button opposite the direction you were running and reverse your direction. Land and repeat on the other side. This will allow the chains to pass underneath you while you are airborne.
Once your minions ambush Bridgette, you can retaliate. Run up to her and charge the negatron cannon and fire off a shot. This is also an opportunity to use honey-pot and heal. When you're ready, seduce her until she disappears. Then, run / air-dash to the next room. the movement order is right, up, left. You go to the room on the right first, then up through the rocks, then to the left.
No spoilers here.
Guardian:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
All that the guardian requires is patience. Once you've got her attention, walk back to the left edge of the screen. Seduce until she is close to you (but not so close that she attacks you, stay out of the range of her lance) Then, and this is really hard, you just... stand there. Eventually she will get bored and charge a blue wave looking thing. Point is, blue stuff appears. Quickly air-dash behind her and bash away. She'll start backing up. Be sure to stay behind her. When she gets toward the back, air-dash though her again to get into the safe zone. Rinse and repeat.
Tenders: (read: pain in the ass)
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
Tenders are really a pain since one small slip up can make the whole room dark and very hard. If you're having trouble, crank up the brightness on your monitor. Now, as for actual strategies. Obviously try not to hit the eggs. It's often worth taking a little damage to keep the eggs alive. You can usually get about 3 hits off on one when they spawn before you get hit by any attacks. They spawn when you reach the center of the room so quickly run or air-dash to once side so that you can get as many hits off as possible. Then you just have to time your jumps or use air-block+air-dash to stay out of the way until they come up to attack again. Try and remember which one is which so that you can focus one of them. One tender is a lot easier than two.
In the room with the guardian, try and avoid moving left as right as much as possible so you don't limit your space. Whack the one on the left as many times as you can when they spawn. After that, jump and air block (only air-block when you have to as it can lead to you touching down at the wrong time/missing attack opportunities. When the tenders are dead, deal with the guardian.
It's fairly easy to miss the elite tender. He spawns instead of the guardian when your return to that room from the right. Two tenders instead of one spawn on the left side of the room, so that's the best place to start. Empower is a life saver here, as you can almost kill them outright, right at the start. After that, they'll often stay together, so just wait for them to pop up and then finish them off. Then deal with the elite. The elite grants you spawn. It can come in handy during the Broodmother battle, but that's about it. I find it often can't hit other enemies.
Beezelba:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
I won't lie to you. Beezy is tough. You basically have one attack window. Here's the breakdown of her attacks and counter strategies.
1. She launches wind from the right. Tornados spawn at your max jump height and at ground level. These will damage you can send you flying back into the wall. Avoid at all costs. This will push you into the wall of doom if you don't air-dash towards her. This is your attacking window. Try and hit her with the air-dashes and stay as close to the right as possible. You can actually air-dash twice before touching down, so use the second one if you're about to get hit by the lower tornado. After you hit her about 4 times, she'll move into the next mode.
2. She launches twisters from the ceiling. These remain until you get hit by them or the phase ends. She launches 5 in total. You can be damaged by both the tornado and by Beezy as she's casting them. She spawns slightly to the right of the twisters and directly above your head. There are two tactics to beat her here. Both require you to "know" the timing of the twisters. It's going to come with practice.
You can start at the very right and air-dash left as you see her launching them. Then go back and stand right next to the twister she just cast. Rinse and repeat. This method requires you to have fast reflexes but you don't have to know much about the timing of the twisters.
The other method is to air-dash through her twisters causing them to land on top of each other. Once you've got the timing of the twister down, this method is less error prone as you have a window the length of your dash. When she casts the first twister, you'll probably be on the right. After you dodge that move towards the middle. Dodge the second twister with an air-dash. Then run towards and air-dash again so that the next twister lands within dash range of where the second one landed. Rinse and repeat.
After 5 twisters she move on to her final attack stage.
3. Beeze creates a large tornado that sucks you toward it. It spawns on the right side of the screen and you'll be on the left at this point. Run away from it (you won't be able to outrun it) until you're a dashes length from the spikey wall. Do a low air-dash. Start running again, and wait until the tornado is in about the middle of the screen. Let the tornado pull you in until you are dash length away from the spikey wall. Jump to maximum height and air-dash toward the spikey wall. As you fall, you'll be pulled back in, so turn around and air-dash though the tornado to the other side. Touch down and air-dash again and run to the right corner. As soon as the twister vanishes and the wind stops, you'll have a brief opportunity to heal. After that, Beezy will become attackable again.
It's worth noting that you'll never be able to seduce her in one shot. You're better off seducing her halfway and then healing if you can. If you can't heal, seduce as much as possible.
And that's gg, so no spoilers to give here.
These next two I'm not sure I should put in, but I'm doing it anyways. I'm sure gore will see some tactic here he doesn't like and patch these two side-bosses to make them even harder than they already are. So, by popular demand, how to beat the Gorger Spirit Mask and the Brood Mother. This part of the game is not easy. It's not for the feint of heart. You'll have to practice and repeat these strategies in order to beat them. In the rest of the game knowing was most of the battle. Here it's not even half. These assume you've already tried the fights and are familiar with the attacks.
Spirit Mask:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
The spirit mask has a rotation that he does. However, he has no invulnerability frames and can be damaged at any time. Empower is pretty much a necessity here if you don't want to be fighting him forever, so is upgraded armor and weapons. First attack is a counter-clockwise circle around the screen resulting in a left to right slash across the bottom. You want to start on the right and air-dash over him. If you do it low enough you can score a hit. Next is an x-pattern resulting in a right to left slash across the bottom of the screen. Stay on the left and do another air-dash over him.
The next attack is referred to as "inferno." You want to start on the right. As soon as the flames he shoots touches the ground, jump to max height. Air-block there, then air-dash to the left (through the mask) and air-block again before you drop out of the air. Air-dash again before you drop out and air-block once more. One last air dash will put you to safety. Immediately cast empower and jump to max height and cast blitz through him. That'll do about half of his health. When he splits into 5 masks, stand to the left of the middle one. I like to do this sequence on the left, but it can ultimately be done on either side. When he smashes, hit him with an attack and then immediately dash to the far left corner (through the now falling second mask). Run back to the center to dodge the outside masks falling and then repeat it. Eventually you will find that you don't have enough time to get an attack off. When that happens, you'll have to air dash out first, then run back in to get your attack off and then dash back out again. Then you can run to the center like you did before to avoid the falling outside masks.
It's worth noting here that the mask will not going into regen mode until the current sequence is finished. The breaking points are after the two cycles, after the "swishy" fire attack, and after the drop sequence. You'll have to fight him twice (and for some reason the second time always seems harder.)
The Broodmother:
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
There are two techniques for killing the brood mother. One involves spawn and the other involves slam. I prefer the slam method since it can be empowered and generally gets her down quicker.
Spawn is easy. Focus on killing the eggs at the top and dodging the spikey rock waves, and whenever spawn comes up, just cast it the next time you drop down. The spikes come every 8 waves, so try not to cast right before that.
The slam method requires you to time your slams so that you don't get knocked off of her and don't do damage. As with the other method, focus on killing the egg but every time slam comes up (~every 2 waves) cast it. Better to cast it empowered.
This is where my data gets faulty. Last time I tried her, she started using a new spikey wave attack after she regenerated where all 4 spikes came up quicker, simultaneously but at half width. It might be a bug, or it could be intended. If it's intended, I'm sure it's dodge-able, but I haven't figured it out yet. So the fix for the time being is save brig for after she regenerates and the bring the boom twice to get her down before gets a chance to use it. Only solution I have for now.
And that's all of them. A note for gore: I mentioned a possible bug, in the broodmother one, I'd like to know if it actually is one.
The only request I have for this game sounds a lot bigger than it is, but should be a lot simpler to implement than it sounds. I'd like gravity. More specifically, I'd like Eva to hang at the top of her jumps so that the crucial "max-height" point is easier to nail. I don't know if gravity exists in the underworld, but if we're breaking the laws of physics, I can name a few that should go. Uncertainty principle should definitely go, and the inverse square law for light is a pain in the ass.
Anyways, this hope is that this can serve as a reference for the people asking "how do I beat X?" and we can get along with the actual criticism and bug-reporting and whatnot. I'll try and keep this updated as tweaks come, but no promises. Also, WOW, 3 hours of my life. Where did they go? It was so long I got logged off for inactivity. I think that kind of time commitment is worth a tip to finding "Old Reliable." Eh? Eh?!
