New game?

Postby out53 » Sat Oct 28, 2017 6:27 pm

So, I wanna make a game. I have a little knowledge in coding but I'm terrible at art. My idea is kinda like a sim game, like the Sims. I have unity and a graphics tablet. If anyone has some suggestions they would be welcome!
Oh. So you can see me? That's nice.

Not sure how well I can help you since your parameters are a little vague. You might want to look at Sim-brothel or Whore Master for ideas. Sim-brothel stars a bunch of different anime and game characters and the only real issue is money, and you have a 300 day limit. Whore Master adds gangs and rivals to the mix, and your goal (besides money) is knock off the other rivals. WM also has far more kinks and instead of "Belldandy met with three clients" like in SM, you might get "Belldandy enjoyed sex with multiple partners* - although there's no way to determine whether she will do regular sex, anal, bestiality, group sex, or S&M. With WM you also NEED gangs...

One thing to remember, is there's a fair amount of artists here (I am NOT one, heck I have problems with basic drawings!) who might be willing to help you out. It's a good idea to get a firm grasp of what you want to do though, before asking the artists.

If you're not great at artwork, try downloading some 3D models. https://free3d.com/3d-models/woman , https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/character and especially https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/char ... f-my-girls You could also try and obtain MMD models, there's a lot of 3D MMD porn out there. If you find a model that is not "rigged" (most of the free ones are not) there are many tutorials for rigging with Blender, which is free, and there's a very nice tool called Rigify, which is disabled by default as a specialist tool, but it comes included.

One thing I want to mention, if you're a coder, you should still study animation. "Animation" means "to bring to life" and you are still bringing things to life with code, often in ways that artists can't. The 12 Principles of Animation is a classic and a great place to start. And if you end up needing to animate 3D models or any other kind of art on your own, this will help.

Since you only got a "little knowledge in programming" I can only recommend you to focus on another project yet. A game like The Sims is super huge and requires indepth knowledge of programming.
I will leave you some tips here:

Tip #1
Don't plan a project that will take you longer than a month.

Tip #2
It's gonna take you longer than a month. Don't sweat it!
Surprises come always up. If you come up 3 months, you probably scoped to large.

Tip #3
Don't worry about your design of your first game(s) too much.

Tip #4
Set milestones! Easy to ignore on small projects.

Tip #5
Break down big milestones. Every task that takes longer than a week, should be broken down.

Tip #6
Send yourself producer emails (What you have done/going to do). Compare them from week to week.

Tip #7
Testplay your games once a week. Atleast half an hour.

Tip #8
Dont worry about production values. Gameplay matters first. Polishing is stuff for later.

Tip #9
Dont spend more than an hour trying to do anything yourself. Use ressources (e.g. tutorials)

Tip #10
Make people play your game. You can learn alot from it.
