Okay, I'm going to rant a bit.
Partially, this is to do with people asking me, "Ace, why did you switch to 3D? 2D was great!" but also I'm asking the world, "Why haven't the rest of you switched to 3D? 3D is fucking awesome!"
From a logistical point of view, I modeled and rigged this sandwich and did the animation in like, 3 hours, a decent chunk of which was rendering and uploading, not actual work. Pretty fucking fast. Some artists could probably do a 250 frames in the same amount of time, but with shading and lighting and an establishing zoom in like that? Pfft, no. (Which technically, it's not 250 distinct frames, because there are several holds and you could animate on 2s, but still, try it sometime) I could have even pressed a few buttons and had this animation at 60fps.
And the kitchen! My god, that kitchen! Obviously, I didn't make the kitchen in 3 hours. I downloaded it from a website,
for free. If I wanted to part ways with 16USD, I could have bought myself a sandwich as well. Which you're probably thinking, that's a lot for a sandwich, but they've got some really real looking bread and vegetables and shit.
For example. Totally worth it if I thought I needed a realistic sandwich in my glorious new future of making porn. But my point is, if you're doing 2D animations, you would need to make all of that stuff by hand. Especially for games. Even though you can download lots of stuff for games, everything is different style, different resolutions, different angles, different lighting, it never works.
And now that I've modeled and rigged my sandwich, I can use it again for anything I want. You can't re-use stuff from 2D animations, unless you're making shit like He-Man, and most people these days would call you out for that shit.
So yeah, what the fuck is wrong with you people? Go learn 3D.
