Another New member Introduction

Postby Regardie » Sat May 06, 2017 4:55 pm

Hi All,

I was brought here by a web search for a forum that had a discussion about the game lab Rats as I liked the game and was looking for a way to post some language fixes I had been working on. That is now done and I am posting here to let other creators know that I am willing to go through their code for them if they need another set of eyes.

I have done this for several other games over at Shark's forum and I like to fix up language. I freely admit that I am unable to write anything comprehensive like a full game but I am good at editing somebody's work so they can keep creating.

Welcome, Regardie!
You mention both language fixes and looking through code, so do you mean creative writing or programming code?

I have a good grasp of the rules of grammar and spelling in English, and a feel for when something is not quite right in a sentence. Can I write a sentence filled with vivid descriptions to lead the mind's eye on a journey filled with sex and depravity? No. But if someone with that kind of imagination starts the process, I am very capable of cleaning it up to make it better.

I like to read what people have done, but I hate spelling and grammar mistakes that I know I can fix, and that would not have made it through a QC process if there was a team of writers and editors working on a project. So every time I find a new game that I like, and the assets are open, I go through the writing and correct things and send it off. Most creators are appreciative of my work, if I can actually contact them. Very often it gets rolled into the next version of the game.

In the past, I have spent quite some time working on Glassix, since neither of the two main creators speak English as a native language and some of it was quite rough. I am waiting on the next release to look at the new text. I took a bad Google translate English file for the game Art for Carla and turned it into something far more readable for an English speaker as the game was created in Spanish. That was harder as my Spanish is very limited, and my sexy porn Spanish is practically non-existent. I started to play Eros Academy and had to stop to go through the text before I could continue. That got rolled into the current release which is Patreon only right now, but should be free sometime in the middle of the month, so I don't know how much of my work he used.

Currently, and the reason I signed up here, I just finished going through the latest version of Lab Rats. The game has a creator started thread here which seemed like a good way to make contact as the Patreon thing is hard to have a conversation without pledging. He has written a huge quantity of material for the game and I thought it needed a little help so I did what I could and once again, I am leaving it to the creator to use what they want.

I want to reiterate that I don't think I am a better writer than any of the creators I have taken the time to edit. I fix problems so they can continue to create the works I enjoy and hopefully make it better for the other players who might pass on a good game because of the mistakes.

Then there is programming code. I have been coding since before Al Gore invented the Internet. I have used more languages then I care to remember at the moment, but today's javascript and html and xml and python created games are usually fairly easy for me to follow under the hood. So I can search for bugs as I playtest games and actually give useful bug reports.
