Forum formatting thread *WIP*

Postby BlueLight » Fri Jul 11, 2014 9:55 pm

EDIT!
Oh dear i didn't mean to submit.... oh well. This is a work in progress and i'm really just trying to get my thoughts down on paper so grammar hasn't been checked.

OP below

So i am getting sick and tired of having all these buttons above this text pane, and having to relearn them every time i want to use one. This thread is designed so i and anyone else can just look up with syntax without having to learn through experimentation.

Table of contents
//TODO use list on table so not only i get my post formatted all pretty like but i also have experince with it.

Bold, Italicized, and underline
These simple text attributes can give your post some needed flavor, but shouldn't be over used. Add them to your text when you need to point something for the best affect.
using this in your code is simple, just surround some text with the tags. Make sure you have a end tag or it will either give your entire post the attribute. Don't nest the same tag inside of itself.

Bold: This text is to show off Bold tag.
Italic: These words have been italicized for you.
underline: What do you want underlined?

He[b]re[/b] is [i]a[/i] example of overlaping tags
Here is a example of overlaping tags done correctly

Code: Select All Code
[b]Bold: [/b][b]This text is to show off Bold tag.[/b]
[i]Italic: [/i][i]These words have been italicized for you.[/i]
[u]underline: [/u][u]What do you want underlined? [/u]

[b]He[b]r[/b][u]e[/b] i[i]s[/u] [i][b]a[/i][/i] ex[i][u]am[/i][/b]ple o[/u][u]f ov[i]erl[/u][b]ap[/i]in[u]g t[/b]ag[/u]s
[b]Her[u]e[/b] i[i]s[/u] [b]a[/i] ex[i][u]am[/i][/b]ple o[/u]f [u]ov[i]erl[/u][b]ap[/i]ing t[/b]a[i]gs d[b]o[/i]ne c[u]or[/b]rec[/u]tly

Font color
So you might want to change the color of your. This is simply done by surrounding the desired text in the tag. The tag use a hexadecimal value for picking colors. If you select one of the presets and want to change the shade just slightly, you can make simple modification to the hex value and get a predictable result. You can also google a hex value, say "#BFBFBF" and get information on it from a third part site. You are not able to put a color tag in between a already existing color tag; if you want to change the color of a word, then you'll have to end the color tag, start your new color tag, end it and then use your original color tag right after. If you don't add a end tag, your entire post after the starting tag will be colored

Bars
Notice how these suggestion are split up into sections by a bar? This is the hr tag. I don't know much about this tags other than it create a bar. Also it has a end tag which doesn't seem to do anything. Nest hr tag in a hr tag will not work for the second tag.

Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks are made using the URL button and can be either direct or named. Note that hyperlinks don't support all formatting.
Links are different from hyperlinks, and use the link= button. They direct the user to an anchor that you can define further down in your post.

Direct link: http://www.google.com
Named link
Formatted Link
Go to the Anchors section

Code: Select All Code
Direct link: [url]http://www.google.com[/url]

Spoilers

Spoilers are used to hide content. This content isn't loaded when the page is loaded, so the user can't see it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

What if I spoiled everything right here?!

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

I didn't really spoil it though...

Images

The Img tag allows you to create an image hotlink. If an image is very large, it's best to put it in a spoiler tag for ease of reading and scrolling.

Attachments

You can upload things from your computer to the forum and post them. You have to go to the bottom of the page and click the "Upload Attachment" tab. From there you choose a file and can leave comments on the bottom.

text.txt
This is an example file, but the forum handles images and flash files properly as well.

Flash Links

You can even hotlink to external flash files! Always remember to put flash files inside spoilers to reduce forum load!

Spoiler (click to show/hide):

Code: Select All Code
[spoiler][flash=600,400]http://www.legendofkrystal.com/game/Legend%20of%20Krystal%20v0.2.swf[/flash][/spoiler]

The 600,400 there is width, height. You can customize the dimensions however you want, but the forum limits the maximum size.

Quotes

You can quote people. The main way to do this is through the "Quote" button on people's posts, but if you want to post other quotes, or want to customize it easier, this is how to do it.

Anchor

You got sent to an Anchor! The anchor is the helper to the Link tag, and allows you to make a nice table of contents, as well as some other cool things. This works from one post to another, and works across pages if you're fancy with a hyperlink.
