7207. ... Are you just fucking with me?
7208. A terrapin is a turtle... like, its literally a word for small fresh water turtles... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrapin

7209. yes, in the same way that a tortoise is a turtle. there is as much difference between a terrapin and a regular sea turtle, one of which being, of course, that terrapins belong to the families Geoemydidae and Emydidae (mentioned on that Wikipedia page fyi) which contains aquatic, semi-aquatic, and land-based testudines. it's also worth noting that while sea turtles belong to the superfamily Kinosternoidea, whereas terrapins and (most) tortoises belong to Testudinoidea. this would actually imply therefore that terrapins are closer to a tortoise than a sea turtle.
7210. you could also describe a tortoise as a land turtle,
7211. if you want to make a point don't quote Wikipedia, Wikipedia can be edited by anyone and is therefore among other things not professionally written, and there for the way something is described (particularly pertaining to a description) may not be of any scientific relevance.

7212. I didn't 'quote Wikipedia' I linked to it, this is an important distinction because it means I also linked the (Admittedly short) list of references at the bottom of the page.

7213. Y'know, I could point out that "regular sea turtle" is an oxymoron, but fuck it; The names and distinctions between types of turtles are a fucking mess.

7214. In fact, lets unfuck this mess, turtles and terrapins no longer exist, there are only different types of testudines, (Tortoise) separated by their primary habitat.

7215. Testudo Terrestris (Terrestrial Tortoise)(Sing.) Testudines Terrestres (Pl.)

7216. Testudo Aquatilis (Aquatic Tortoise)(Sing. Testudines Aquatiles (Pl.)

7217. Testudo Marina (Marine Tortoise)(Sing.) Testudines Marinae (Pl.)

7218. There, now we can discuss testudines without all this semantic bullshit.

7219. Et si videbo te dices testudinem 'turtle' aut 'terrapin', malleo testudineo feriam te.

7214. gonna ignore the last 7 points you made because they're stupid. Not leastly because rather than simplifying the problem your poorly modelling it
7215. did you read the references? if not then you cannot say that the article is any more valid a source.
7216. regular in this instance meaning of the superfamily Kinosternoidea and not soft-shelled turtles which again are a different kettle of fish. specifically for clarity, the green sea turtle which tends to be the most popularly referenced and there for the sake of this argument makes as good an epitome of a turtle as any.
7217. I probably won't continue this after this post because it's getting boring but to finish up.
7218. a terrapin is more closely related to most tortoises (and at a similar distance from the rest of them as to sea turtles), terrapins share physical characteristics with both turtles and tortoises, and have a completely different environment to either, terrapins typically inhabiting brackish (less salty than the sea but saltier than a river) water, and are typically semi-aquatic, being able to spend periods of at most half an hour underwater, which means they have a similar lung capacity to tortoises of the same size, though I suppose both turtles and terrapins can swim. so that's 1 for tortoises, 1 for both, 0 for either, 1 for tortoises, 1 to turtles. that puts it at 3 similarities to a tortoise and 2 to a turtle, I think that makes a reasonable mid-point especially as it's closer to a tortoise than a soft-shelled turtle is.
7219. so I'd say it's not a bad midpoint, I can actually do better (having spent the bulk of this argument fact-checking), with for example the box turtle which is a terrestrial pond turtle, which inhabits grassland, marsh and desert, is tortoise-like in appearance, this also is more closely related to tortoise and terrapins than an actual sea turtle is.
7220. and for the record that's not an I was wrong that's an I was right but here's a slightly better answer

7221. Yeah, fine, this is getting kinda boring...

7222. No, I didn't read them, but wikipedia was not the first place I checked, and the definition provided there was the same as what I had already seen.

7223. I think you missed the point, 'Terrapin' seems more of a slang term than a biological term, meaning different things in different places, and to different people.

7224. And I am actually agreeing with you, (At least, I think I am) a terrapin is, in fact, somewhere between a turtle and a tortoise.
7225. However, it is also true that there is just as much difference between a terrapin and a tortoise as between a turtle and a tortoise. (Because English is dumb)
7226. Howeverer, it is also true that the scientific name for the order to which turtles, terrapins, and tortoise belong to, translates to "tortoise" first, and "turtle" second or not at all, so logically, they should all be called tortoise.

7227. Which was the point I was making by (Mostly jokingly) refusing to accept the English names for different types of turtle, and replacing them with Latin names, the semantic difference we were argue about does not exist in Latin, therefore there is nothing to argue.

7228. Again, I was actually agreeing with you, by throwing a tortoise, you threw a turtle, and by throwing a turtle, you threw a terrapin...

7229. Oh, I almost forgot *Hits sogekik over the head with a hammer made of tortoise shell*

7230. *Goes searching for the honeybadger that has no doubt wondered off during this pointless argument*

7231. Hugh!! Tortoises are not a "race" of turtles. Race is a nearly meaningless term most closely analogous to subspecies. You may as well have said they were different "kinds."

7235. I called tortoise a race in reference to a previous argument with sogekik.
7236. "Race" is not a proper biological term, so there is no right or wrong way to use it, kinda like "Terrapin"...Which was the joke.

7237. I guess my sarcasm is too subtle...

7244. Maybe some lezdom bdsm?
7245. Hey Musical, do you think Kitsune can take Lynxy's strap-on? or do I need to buy her a smaller one?

7262. *Wonders if anyone picked up on the implication that musical74 has been on the receiving end of Lynxy's strap-on...*

7263. Well, it seems Kitsune is too much of a coward to spend a few hours tied up in a sex dungeon, at the mercy of a feline dominatrix with a collection of strap-ons...
7264. Sigh... I guess some people just don't know how to have fun.

7265. Hmm, maybe we could replace her with Musical in a wig?
