I've played a little. Mostly Shadow Dragon (DS) and that one on GBA where you play as that one badass chick (Name started with an L or something) I'm not a big fan of the series, but I love the battle system.

It's similar to an RPG in the way that you level up your characters, but it's a turn-based battle system (similar to pkmn yes) but you command troops on a field. So in a way, it's like a turn based Starcraft with RPG elements. I'm not sure of any other way to describe it. You could just go look at some Let's Plays on youtube.

The one you were thinking of on GBA is simply known as Fire Emblem. The original title is Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken and is the seventh in the series. It was only called Fire Emblem outside of Japan because it was the first officially translated game in the franchise.
The name of the first main character is Lyn. Then you also have Eliwood and Hector.

I've played the first few missions of Shadow Dragon. I thought it looked good, but I never got through Radiant Dawn because I hated the beginning/midgame. I thought they threw way too many ranked up characters at you without giving their back stories. I think it was a sequel, so maybe that was why.
I played Rekka no Ken and Sacred Stones, and I liked Rekka no Ken better (though it was brutally difficult).
Maxi, if you've played Xcom, it's very similar to that.

Yeah those GC/Wii Fire Emblems were just garbage. I'm a huge fan of FE7 (the first GBA one outside Japan) and I definitely recommend FE Awakening as a strong comeback for the series.
Anyway, you are able to marry/procreate with any one of your comrades so I thought it might make interesting discussion.
I myself was instantly drawn to
Cordelia, and not just because I have a weakness for pink hair =)

I've played most of the games available in North America. Does Awakening live up to the others? Specifically i think Radiant Dawn was my favorite.

I'm currently playing Path of Radiance
two of my friends are playing Awakening, and I might try one of their copies once I diminish my game list

I played only one Fire Emblem... I think it was called Sacred Stone, I enjoyed the crap out of that game, but... jeez my paranoia made grinding hard =3=" (I'm the kind of person who regrets letting even ONE person die in a game if I can do something about it).

Hottest character in any FE game? I'll go last =)

I think you are talking about Lyn.
Spoiler (click to show/hide):
As for me, I am not really sure. I've only played one Fire Emblem game and pretty much all the girls in that game are equally hot. I still think I like Serra the best though.
Even if she is ridiculously tall in this pic. (No seriously, what is up with her legs?)

"Tactical RPG" is how these types are described. Final Fantasy Tactics and Disgaea are in the same genre.

Yeah, Radiant Dawn was the sequel to Path Of Radiance, which details what happened to Daein after the war with Crimea, theirstruggle for independence, and eventually their fight with Crimea against the Beginon Empire to save the world as they know it.
